There are so many things that affect the outcome of a fight. To blindly say the "88" Tyson auto-kills Holy is stupid. I wish this full fight was on YouTube, its a pity Evander didn't wait until after he got over his hepatitus to fight Bowe for the last time. He had been winning the fight until he ran out of steam.
All those three fights againts Holyfield, fucking Bowe won mostly depends on his size and age, and most important, effective infights, which banned Holyfield's good skills, Holyfield is much smaller and nonhard puncher, cannot really brought threat to fucking Bowe. However, once met with a same size, powerful, fast, good outside fighter, fucking Bowe must fall down.
Mostly Bowe's size and strength. Also Holyfield's bravery! Hisbest defense would have been to fight out of a crouch, but he stood straight up in front of Bowe.

Holyfield never ducked anybody. Ruddock?!?! Ha! Why would Evander duck HIM? He doesnt have the skills Evander had.
Holyfield was a world champion in his 12th pro fight. He was fighter of the year a couple of times in the 80's.
He was still a cruiser in 88, so why would he fight Tyson then??? He trained his career to fight Tyson, and in 91 when he was ready, and everyone hailed Tyson King, Mike pulls out with an injury. When they DID fight, Holyfield whupped him, 25-1 underdog and all.
AFter Ruddock almost killed dokes,holys management wanted NO PART of ruddock.Ruddock was on a roll until tyson retired him in that second fight and ruddock had NOTHING left for Lewis and Morrison. Holyfield was a steroid user and didnt dominate Bowe and Lewis and tyson of 1988 would also beat him .Sorry mate....
("Tyson wasnt Tyson by 96") --yet still a 25-1 favorite hours before the fight.. I suppose if he had KO'd Evander, nobody would have claimed Tyson was slipping. But since Holy put the hurt stick on him, ALL night LONG.. people wanna make excuses..
I never heard a soul say that Mike was "over the hill" or "past his prime" going into that fight. He was a 9-1 Favorite for the opening bell. Who gets those kind of odds against a guy like Evander if theyre considered washed up? No body!
But Evander whupped him like he would have done in 90,91,92,93,94,95, u name it. He was signed and ready to fight Mike on 3 seperate occasions before 96, but injuries to Tyson and other troubles prevented it. Evander was always ready4Mike.
@playmayker88 Are you telling me Holyfield had more skill than Lennox Lewis? I think not, less power too. Did you ever see the first Holyfield-Bowe fight? Evander gets into a slugfest with him and gets dominated. None of his punches even hurt Bowe. He was a fast, skilled fighter, but not a really powerful fighter. Plus, he didnt KO Tyson. The ref stopped it when Mike was on his feet. Holyfield headbutted him like five times during the fight and that opened mike up a lot.
I dont think theres any question that Evander is the more highly skilled fighter of he and Lennox Lewis. Lennox was known for his big power with methods of delivery coming from his right hand, over the top as well as his spectacular uppercut. And all tthat was set up with a superb jab. And for such a big man, he had very good footwork and was a thinking, cerebral fighter. A Nice set of skills, but Evander had much more of a variety of punches and deeper set of skills.
Holy's skills included the double left hook. He was also best known for his left hook to the body. "He had the best left hooks to the body I ever tasted" --George Foreman. And recently even Lennox said,during a broadcast of a Klitschko fight, that nobody ever hit him harder in the body than Evander H.
Holy also had textbook combos. He could start and finish a combo, leading with either hand& at any point of the body& his counter punching showcased his ability in either hand.
If you ever wanted to see Evander using his full set of skills, theres of fights that show it. Against Burt Cooper he showed how he could throw from every angle and put the most fluid and precise multi-punch, sometimes 20-puch combos together. Or take a look at the first Tyson fight where Evander put on a boxing clinic. It looked as if Evander had time to see everything, as if the fight was in slo-mo for him. " It was first class counter-punching. It was awesome" -- Mike Tyson
And about the Tyson fight and the "headbutts". If youre really an objective fan who actually watched the fight, and not just repeating the spin and soundbites that became the aftermath of this fight, you will see that Evander never butted Mike on purpose, they were simply 2 inside fighters who made their livings there, and fighting that way does cause heads to come together. Even Mike said that after the fight until his handlers morphed him into a poor sport.
Mike was the one darting his head in @Evander in the late rounds especially. Then looking to the ref for help. It looked kind of like Mike was looking for a way out even at that point. Bottom line, Holy was landing some really hard shots on Mike, He was full of confidence & it showed. He was even attacking Mike with combos to the body. HARD body shots. This "headbutt" excuse just doesnt tell the story&every boxing guy worth their salt acknowledges that Evander dominated Mike.
Finally, I think your interpretation of skill and greatness leans too much on power. Just because a fighter like Lennox or Mike is more powerful than Evander, doesnt mean theyre more skilled. Nor does it mean Holyfield is not powerful himself. Thats the reason I pointed to KO's and stoppages Holy had against fighters known to take a good punch.
By the way, Evander stopped Mike on his feet & the ref woulda stopped it for Mike if he had landed the same way on Evander. Fair call.
I think thats very much of a myth. Like I said, Ray Mercer had a legendary chin, and it was Evander that was the first to floor him. He KO'd Tyson who also had a great chin. He had Foreman out on his feet a couple times. Riddick Bowe as well.
Just because a HW doesnt have equal power to a Mike Tyson or George Foreman, does not mean he was "not a big puncher". Evander had very good power. Especially to the body. His record and resume' speak for themselves.
A blind punch?! Hpoly and Riddick were squared up face to face when Holy dropped him.. Such was the case when he KO'd Mike.. and dropped Mercer.. Evander has dropped or badly hurt every worthy HW of his era.. Bg George was out on his feet as well in the 11th.. so its very much of a myth that Evander was not a dangerous punching HW... why do u think Lennox played "keep-away" and held Evander all night long? Because he recognizes this fact.
@capablemachine Tyson, Foreman, Lewis, etc, also KO'd a bunch of "fat" guys.. I font hear you knocking their power for the many tomato cans they fought. While Evander fought the toughest, most worthy opponents out there, always. Holy always came ready to fight. Thats what champs do. Not Evanders fault someone came in overweight, or only fought 9 rounds in 3 years, or thought a punch was gonna hit his shoulder but ended up hitting his chin.. all excuses. Evander beat the guys he signed to fight.
@capablemachine on Tyson: Tyson fought cans all his career. Seldon, Mathis? You call that championship material? He learned what championship material was. Eleven brutal rounds. A wipeout vs the big 25-1 favorite. Then came the excuses. So whats the excuse for the rematch? He had time to get in shape for the 2nd fight didnt he? What happened?
@capablemachine (on Mike) Mike caused the butts. Thats evident. Especially in the 1st fight, he even admitted and 2 of them were intentional. In the 2nd fight, Evander butted Mike but it was NOT an intentional butt. Theres a difference. A big difference. When 2 fighters are in close, their heads WILL come together. Thats nature. Holy doesnt butt on purpose, but he has enough sense to keep his head down when fighters are bullying and grabbing annd punching. He's just a pro, not a dirty pro.
@capablemachine Im not saying Holy never used his head on purpose, but he gets a bad rap for that because of what Tyson started, when Mike is the one who caused 90% of the butts. So everyone demonizes Holy for the head. What about the things done to him as a small HW. Getting bullied. Mike butting and trying to break his arm. Riddick hitting him low. Lennox hitting on the break and holding all fight. Theres a lot done to holy that he cant ignore, but he's not dirty. Hes an inside fighter.
@capablemachine (fighting dirty) Evander opponents call him the dirtiest they ever fought? Why? Its like this: if Evander comes forward throwing punches, and heads clash, they say Evander is a butter.. but if his opponent comes striaght in throwing punches, and heads clash, they STILL call Holy the butter..
Theres a DIFFERENCE, between keeping your head down when you in-fight,& trying to break arms, hitting on the break repeatedly..BITING..hitting low..all of which happen2Holy in all fights
@capablemachine (head butts) after the Rahman fight, when the butting issues were re-raised, Evander said in the post fight : "if you dont keep your head down, you get your head knocked off in this division".. so youre right, in a way, its not a defense, as in butting, its a defensive posture protecting the chin.. its not intentional.. but would he have shed that butting reputation if he had left his chin out there just to avoid incidental butts, and got KO'd in every other fight? NO!
@capablemachine also, you seem to think "big puncher" means you have to leave someone lifeless on the floor. No. Thats not the only thing that qualifies. When Evander connected clean, everyone knew it was trouble, or about to be trouble. Crowds stood. Referees monitored his opponent closely. And opponents, if they survived, changed their whole fight plan not to be hit like that again. That ALSO defines big puncher - when you can change things with you power. Doesnt have to be a savage KO.
@capablemachine Its you who;s using the square block for round holes.. by your logic, every guy who Evander faced (aside from Riddick Bowe ) did NOT have a HW punch since none of them KO'd him and only a couple of them knocked him down.
So Lennox LEwis,Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Ray Mercer, Alex Stewart, Burt Cooper... all do NOT have HW punches according to your formula, right?
LEts get something straight about Holys power. I never once said he had "great" power". I said he had good power. He's not on the level of Mike or George, or Even Lennox. But Evander has stopping power, and KO power. And as for not having a HW punch, thats laughable. 4x HW Champions have HW a HW punch. YOu would be in the small minority in that argument.
By the way, Michael Moorer also had good power. So George being off balance there is another misconception.
@capablemachine No that was ONE punch that nailed him(George) senseless in the 11th, i think it was. The accumulation of punches contributed to the decision, but the one right hand was the cause of him being out on his feet. He was perfectly fine before that punch.
@capablemachine (lack of KO's) Evander Ko'd and stopped most of his HW opponents when he was a younger HW.. of course, as he got older, and wiser, his fights went longer because he realized the illogic of just slugging all the time, given all the skills he had..
But again.. if youre argument here is that Evander Holyfield is a light puncher, youre an idiot. Its not really accurate to qualify his 12 round fights after 2000 when he was a past prime, 40+ yr old fighter.
@capablemachine one more thing.. big punching doesnt only happen on the chin and leave people motionless. Evander is known by his most name-opponents, as the hardest body puncher theyve ever faced. He has dropped guys with shots to the body alone - which ALSO changes an opponents gameplan. And even if u dont KO somone cold, Holy has beaten guys up to unhealthy levels and Refs had to stop it. Thats power sir. It might not be Tyson power, but to say Evander isnt a big puncher,is just not credible
@capablemachine Lennox Lewis also said Holy had the hardest body punch he ever got. And for Foreman, who got rocked silly in early and late rounds by Evander, and had a head twice its size by the end of the fight..who's the last "heavywt" to punch him and hurt him like that?? Ali?? Foreman's stability in the ring and appearence after the fight doesnt support the claim that Evander isnt a HW puncher.
Foreman got rocked in the early rounds. Call it a big man off balance if you want, I credit it to hard punching being the source. Are you gonna say the right hand in the 11th round that left George defenseless - off balance? No it was a big shot. And Evander landed a lot of big shots, particularly to the body early on, to set up the big one late. Having a big punch doesnt mean you have to blow people out early all the time. LEnnox had a big punch but had late round averages.
@capablemachine You talk about ME making excuses. U make excuses for everyone else but Holyfield. Are you just an envious hater of his accomplishments that you cant give him credit as a HW?Lennox was cautious? Well Holy is a technical boxer- first, so his KO's will come later because he sets them up, he doesnt try to blow everyone out in the first round, so he too uses caution. Sometimes too much caution , like when he fought Lennox the 2nd time, where he could have done more.
@capablemachine (excuses).. and the excuses Tyson fans make for Holy whupping him twice. Or Lennoz making excuses for getting knocked cold on various occasions by C class opponents.. Everyone fighter makes excuses
@capablemachine (HGH) thats such a bullshit claim.. people have accused Holy of that since he was a Cruiser.. again, being penalized and demonized for being a hard worker and wanting to be the very best he can be.. penalized for coming to each fight in shape and ready.. unlike the Tysons and Bowes and Douglases, who werent as committed.. so whaty if he had some poor performances, everyone does.. with all the accusations, Im sure he was tested thoroughly.. passing tests isnt enough? course not
@capablemachine We may just have to agree to disagree about Holy's power. All I can say is that he's stopped some big guys and cold cocked some big guys early ( Rodriguez, McDonough, Douglas) and other guys who he just had to beat on into late rounds, just proved that he was doing more damage compared to their punches (Dokes, Mike, Mercer).
Bottom line, he's the most decorated fighter of his era, and the most decorated HW ever. You dont achieve that without a punch, period.

who was plagued with health problems??
I know yout not talking about Evander...
Consider the fact that he's been fighting professionally for 25 years.. and at championship levels for 20 of those years..
thats a testament to supreme conditioning and exceptional health..
most of these so called champions have fights where they show up out of shape or mentally not ready to fight..
Evander was ALWAYS in shape, even at 46 years old!!
And he was always ready to fight. A very rare willl to win.

The shoulder against Toney was in fact hurt..but that from years of fighting...but he got it repaired and fought better...
In Bowe 3, he was controlling the fight until he ran out of gas.. so im not surprised that food poisoning was the reason.

Evander was Evander - all time champ.

Holyfield headbutted him like five times during the fight and that opened mike up a lot.
bigmoney749 1 year ago
@bigmoney749 (pt 1)
A Nice set of skills, but Evander had much more of a variety of punches and deeper set of skills.
playmayker88 1 year ago
@bigmoney (pt 2)
He could start and finish a combo, leading with either hand& at any point of the body& his counter punching showcased his ability in either hand.
playmayker88 1 year ago
@bigmoney(pt 3)
It was awesome" -- Mike Tyson
playmayker88 1 year ago
@bigmoney (pt4)
Even Mike said that after the fight until his handlers morphed him into a poor sport.
playmayker88 1 year ago
@bigmoney(pt 5)
This "headbutt" excuse just doesnt tell the story&every boxing guy worth their salt acknowledges that Evander dominated Mike.
playmayker88 1 year ago
@bigmoney (pt 6)

First man to drop Bowe and Mercer.
