I love how any comment even slightly against Mao is given so many negative votes that it isn't even viewable. I said it's great to see how Mao is doing well even though she has been overpowered by Yuna Kim's skating. That's a compliment if you did know.
Then it was: "WOW!!! 3A!!! Absolutely fantastic!!!"
Now it is: "nice 3A-2t"
Reactions of commentators have changed, because all of them used to Mao and her axels. Now everyone think 3A is normal jumps, even though she's still the only woman who does it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@resfriada1 not exactly. If you compare this triple axel and the triple axel she does now, you see very obvious differences. She did it effortlessly when she was 14, but struggles with it so much now becos of her grown-up body. True she is still the only woman doing it, but the quality of the jump just aint the same anymore.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@kelshj Now she does three 3A, then she was doing only one- that's why she has more problem with them. Usually her single axel is ok, but she has problems with her axel in combo. But honestly- I think that even her axels from combinations shouldn't have been downgraded compared to many 3A of male skaters (like lysacek).
You're right about her body- but i think it's even more impressive that she can still do 3A even though her body has changed.
@missperfection77 mao is both technically and artistically amazing, she has everything a figure skater needs and dreams of... she simply is THE BEST no question about that...
@wsfggf yeah I watched the gala performance she had for her 2009-2010 season and I REALLY liked it. I thought it was really engaging/artistic. But I think her sp/lp for choreography and her coach for the season aren't that well matched for her which is why she ultimately lost to Yuna kim.
@missperfection77 well evenso I can agree with you on the part where her former couch tat wasn't the best choice because she barely had time for mao, so mao actually was training most of the time alone, but I still like tat as a choreographer maybe not for all her programs but atleast for one of her programs like for the next season mao is going to have tat choreograph her sp and lori for lp which is a great choice... and I think her new ex ballede which was choreographed by tat is brilliant..
THIS is the Mao I wanna c back......complete with 3/3 combos, a 3 lutz and salchow, instead of simply relying on the 3 axel......the judges just are nt as impressed with it now, and shes gotta do 3/3 combos.....worst mistake she ever made was going to Trassavova...even her costumes don t suit her now....big high-necked, overly fussy, and cuts her body line in 2
@claudineretard I agree Tarassova made mistake not putting 3-3 in her program, but thanks to her Mao improved A LOT her step sequence and spins. Moreover she showed her ability to interpret as difficult music as Bells of Moscow- judges didn't appreciate that but her performances at Worlds and 4CC in 2010 were masterpieces.
I LOVE this LP so much. It is really much much better than the LP she has this season. Her style, her lightness of touch and charm really shows in this program.
I think I like Mao better than Yuna Kim; I can't explain...Mao graceful, but fragile at the same time; I wish she would win the gold at the Olympics in 2010!
pretty good performance except for few technical problems; two footed landing on triple axel, wrong edge takeoff on lutz(FLUTZ), and lastly pre-rotation on loops. well, this was her first world, so hopefully she'll learn from this.
I think that the small mistake on the 2axel/3toe combo got her marked down slightly - also no triple salchow, so not showing the full range of jumps. Maybe putting a 3loop on the last 3lutz combo might have changed things
It was a close finish (less than 1 point), but unfortunately, she popped a jump in the short program and got a -3 deduction. Losing those 3 points was what put her second.
My favorite LP by Mao... I think in this program, she looks so energetic and charming...... really so pretty... I wish her 2008 program was like this too...
Wow, she starts crying at the end. This must be the ultimate vindication. It makes the crack of dawn practices and all the bumps and bruises worth it when you can go home with a shiny medal.
sergioayala, are u like kidding me? Mao has a perfect lutz and her combos have never been downgrdaded? IDTS. Mao has received a lot of deductions for her triple "flutz" and her 3/3 combos with the 3loop for the second jump are oftentimes downgraded.
I think that one of the reasons why they implementated the Code Of Points is to eliminate the "should have","was robbed","could have", and Miki is an incredible skater who finally got what she deserved i'm not even a fan of hers, and of course Mao outskated her in the fs, but under this new system you just can't say "who really won here" the best wins period. Besides as you said Mao got hers in 2008.
Mao Asada is the best and most complete sk8r of all time: perfect technique, amazing flexibility in her spirals (currently the bests), she has every spin and executes them perfectly, unmatchable footwork (she should get level 4 for it), has a very strong and competitive mental strenght, and has become a brilliant and pristine artist on the ice in the last copule of seasons. SHE'S IMPOSSIBLE 2 IMITATE & HAS DESERVED THIS YEAR TO BECOME A WORLD CHAMPION, ALTHOUGH SHE ALSO DID SO LAST YEAR. Luv her
I'm a little worried about mao for this worlds (which, btw CBC is F-ing retarded and but them on COUNTRY CANADA) their speciality channel, which makes no sense cause CBC is a publicly funded network) her new LP doesn't seem to work for her as much as this one.
honestly...can anyone compete with Mao if she lands all her jumps and combos?? if she can skate like this at worlds this year and not double foot her landings her tech score is going to be so unbelieveably high..... i think yuna's skating is amazing...but im not sure anyone can compete with mao!
Regardless of what everyone says, even the most second-rate performances by Mao Asada are far more inspiring than anyone else currently skating. All this complaining about the Flutz and whether she is this or that, Mao's presence and presentation allows the audience in. Artistically, she is absolutely peerless. She may be beaten on technicality, which is what happens, but nobody skates like her. The last person who did was Oksana Baiul.
I support and respect and love Rafael Arutunian, as Mao Asada's Coach. Part of me says she needs a different coach. And I love Michelle Kwan who he coached. But my feeling is he wasn't able to help Michelle win the Gold. I just think Mao needs another Coach. But I respect Rafael Arutunian.
What does Rafael Arutunian have to do with Michelle Kwan? In her glory years she was coached by Frank Carrol including the the 1998 olympics in Nagano. In 2002 she didn't have a coach. Rafael Arutunian didn't even start coaching her until around 2004 and lets face it she wasn't going to win in Torino no matter who was coaching her then.
It was step into triple axel, and though two-footed, she landed it at World Championships. You can call it mediocre 3A, but don't assume we don't know what you know.
There you go again with that slur and yet you called me waddlefuckie? What does that tell you? Did the cactus needle run through your nose? Quit assuming something you know nothing about. Go and review other videos and stop reviewing MAO's,likeatingcats!
Oh shut up, I'll "review" whatever videos I want. "Fuck" is not a slur you moron. Congratulations of spelling cactus correctly this time though, it's a huge step in the right direction!
I agree with you about the sit spin and the flutz dandy - but she does have a great wow factor and regal grace to her skating. Yuna stands out because her lyrical artistry is just SO outstanding - it's like comparing throw triples between the CHinese teams, they're all awesome, but Shen and Zhou still rule.
super great on that triple axel, yet the sit spin isn't low enough, and her FLUTZ really really bother me everytime I see her. Very good for her age, but.. i don't think she will beat Yu-na unless she has that triple axel everytime she competes against her, she just doesn't have that extra something that yuna has. However, she was ROBBED by Ando Miki,Mao should have won that championship with that performance.
Well she did beat Miki in the long, but because of her popped combo in the short she was too far behind. I think she needs a bit more speed and pop in that axel, especially now that she's grown a bit, can't depend on spin speed alone to get it done.
oh.. you know.. I'm korean and a Kim's fan, but everytime I watch this program I cry a little when she makes a tearful bright smile after program because I can feel her phenomenal passion and I can't have any feeling to hate or be jealouse her even if I know Kim can't win because of her. I think these two little girls' beautiful passion makes nobody hate them and I hope so. I wish both of them will be able to get their goal.
Wow, she has so much height on that triple axel! She's an amazing skater. I know somebody with the same music as her but when I hear it I always think of Mao because it suits her skating style so well. If she had skated to her full potential in the short I think she would have taken first place overall.
I would like to see Mao skate to a slower program that would allow her to show some interpretive skills. If it weren't so associated with Michelle, I'd suggest East of Eden.....
Right now, as a technical skater, Mao is the best.
I was watching this script and my videotape i recorded and i feel like the english tv speaker very gracefull and saying with their true heart than american, the american tv speaker did not feel they are happy i guess because kim meissner lost heh?she rank #4 thought!what a jealousy.......
She is technically better than Kwan. The sport hasn't progressed that much. Yamaguchi was doing triple lutz triple toe combinations back in the day. michelle was just lucky the sport had a less technically demanding field her few years
I disagree. Yamaguchi and Ito were the first skaters to put a set of 7 triples and it took the ladies a while to compete with the same program content. Between 1992 and 1996 women were competing 6 triples with the exception of Surya Bonally. Kwan raised the level the technical level in 1996.
Michelle Kwan completed a 7 triples program at 1995 worlds and she had programed 7 triples in her programs since 1994, since she was 13/14! watch the videos yourself!!
from the looks of it, its a no. which is good. yuna's back condition is not a permanent problem (i hope) and i pray thats the case. mao's practices are not as jump-centered as before, and it appears that she gave up on the quad (for now), so thats good ^^
I'm so proud of her....its just bad that she had a mistake in the short...but btw, can you tell me why her final layback spin got only level 1??? if you look at miki ando's layback, she got level 2..so it made a big difference....
That's because she did not hold her positions for a required amount of revolutions. She had no choice, really, as if she hold them for a proper amount of revolutions (3 revs for every position) she would end up behind the music. Next time she should have her program choreographed so that she would have no trouble to hold the positions - she had her layback downgraded far too many times this season, ven though she's capable of doing lvl 4 spins.
Of course she is technically better than her, the sport progresses. I agree with elong10, very soon she will also have the grace that Michelle did! She is lovely now and will continue to grow!
that's a good one!lol since Michelle's gone i'm a Mao Asada fan but i can tell that to say she's more graceful than Kwan is so stupid, 'cuz she isn't!!! You just say so but you know it isn't true! Michelle is far more graceful even at that age she was already interpretating an Opera (Salome).
As i said before since Michelle's gone im a mao asada fan but talking about "quality" what kind of quality does mao have, if she flutzes, if she cant do a perfect flip, if the technical panel downgrades her 3z/2l/2l all the time?? i mean come on i admire Mao but comparing her to Kwan is just a waste of time, Kwan is just the queen of ice skating, and history'll give me the reason
sergioayaia, to say that Michelle is much more graceful than Mao, is a total laugh. Michelle is NOT that graceful and her technical skating skill is sublime compared to Mao's technical grace which is much better than Kwan's. Michelle isn't much cut to be a ballerina because Michelle didn't have the training and consistency of that of a ballerina unlike Mao, along with Sasha and the others. Mao will always outshine Kwan in grace and in the consistency.
Mao is so consistent that she always has had the perfect lutz, her combos have never been downgraded and she doesn't support her whole program in one jump.I'm fan of both Kwan and Mao,n u're right Mao has incredible technic, but so did Kwan when she started, actually Kwan started more as a technicall skater than as an artist. And you are entirely right Kwan is no ballerina, but she gives herself to the program and to the audience. And that made her win more than 60 gold medals, and more than 50 6.0s!
Now I know why Gaga's Alejandro always sounded so familiar to me! ;) Mao, you're the best! Go girl!!!

However, she was ROBBED by Ando Miki,Mao should have won that championship with that performance.
dandy456 4 years ago
I think Miki Ando is wonderful, but I truly think Mao Asada has more of the passion to skate that can make people love her more.
sillyasiantrixr4kidz 4 years ago 12
Well she did beat Miki in the long, but because of her popped combo in the short she was too far behind. I think she needs a bit more speed and pop in that axel, especially now that she's grown a bit, can't depend on spin speed alone to get it done.

I think to judge her artistry and sit spin you need to watch recent videos, not those from half a year ago. She didn't like Czardas much.

oh..

I think that Mao will have the same problems with injuries that bothered Sasha and eventually wiped out Tara Lipinsky.
You can't do 3/3's and practice quads without damaging your body, especially at such a young age.
I hope I am wrong...

from the looks of it, its a no. which is good. yuna's back condition is not a permanent problem (i hope) and i pray thats the case. mao's practices are not as jump-centered as before, and it appears that she gave up on the quad (for now), so thats good ^^

I hope you are right.
I cannot understand a woman trying a quad. It is not necessary, and if you happen to land it, and fall on a 2Axel, it will do you no good...

I'm so proud of her....its just bad that she had a mistake in the short...but btw, can you tell me why her final layback spin got only level 1??? if you look at miki ando's layback, she got level 2..so it made a big difference....
robbie025 4 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
That's because she did not hold her positions for a required amount of revolutions. She had no choice, really, as if she hold them for a proper amount of revolutions (3 revs for every position) she would end up behind the music. Next time she should have her program choreographed so that she would have no trouble to hold the positions - she had her layback downgraded far too many times this season, ven though she's capable of doing lvl 4 spins.

yes, but if you look at miki, she didnt hold the position either, and the position were very bad....whatever.... :)

that's a good one!lol since Michelle's gone i'm a Mao Asada fan but i can tell that to say she's more graceful than Kwan is so stupid, 'cuz she isn't!!! You just say so but you know it isn't true! Michelle is far more graceful even at that age she was already interpretating an Opera (Salome).

I never liked Michelle Kwan, she doesnt withdraw me into her skating....she doesnt have that "likeable" quality which Mao As
