  • ask maynard. but he might shoot you with his paintball gun lol. i think its about the spiritual battle with the self and how the dark side and light side collide between us all.

  • I think it's about ''the inner imagination of my mind's enigma'' or something about cake.

  • Tool in february! OH YEAH! Charlotte NC show for me.

  • ♪ What's singing songs is a snake ♪

God I hope they play this when I see them in a few weeks.

  • drugs maybe?....ones opinion

  • Thanks Devo for allowing this song to be created...

  • My interpretation of this song is leaning towards a lost love, which could also be referred to a past addiction. They make us fans extremely entertained in a way that needs no explanation....

  • Great SONG

  • I feel that Maynard is describing the battle for his soul. On one side you have his hatred for his father (the snake), its wants to corrupt him. (drag me down like some sweet gravity)

One the other side you have his love for his son, which begs him to feel again (my blood before me begs me, open up my heart again). In the end his love for his son triumphs over his hated for his father.

There are parallels to this in all our lives. We decide which emotion wins in our minds.

  • Best fucking tool song EVER!!!!

  • 1:07 is "They're both totally void of hate" not "But they're totally void of hate". Just a minor error I noticed, not trying to flame you or anything.

  • Seems to me this song is about his son. I just can't see a connection with this song and heroin. But in all honesty it doesn't matter what I think. It has a different meaning to all of us which is the beauty of being a Tool fan.

  • @raphaholic1 Which is the beauty of feeling what vibrations come to you is how we are to be one with music in iself

  • Love Tool :) This song is touching me, It expresses how I'm feeling right now. I'm still going through a break up and this is striking a cord with my emotions.

  • @ram0889 It is so cool that a song can have people in a harmony and how someone else has done the same sort of crying or shared similar feelings - The unity of music and the gratitude for such a time as this.... whatever that "this" may be

  • I love how you capitalized "IN" when you wrote the video description because you know there's always gonna be that person that's like, "yo where the lyrics yo I can't find em". Haha made my day!

  • I think it's basically about a person that changes you in any way. In my case, though, I would think that it's an emotional change

  • @ShadowSlayer451 oops I didnt mean 2 thumbs down- Stupid touchy touchpad =-[] Thumbs up 4 sure

  • my favorite song when stoned

  • SEX. thats what it means..

  • i think we all need to take a bong rip of salvia and listen to tool.

  • @millsap72 Wow what a great idea! Don't mind if we do! LoL ;-P

  • It could be Heroin and may even be but it is also about being lost and finding your way back to your individual Light. The Light that guides you home.

  • This song is about addiction... the "snake" is the seductive drug. it is that drug that sings to him, with a "venomous voice". the high is a "sweet gravity", the drug "drains", "bleeds" "cracks" and "empties" it has the decency to kill him to put him out of his misery. "consideratley killing" him. the "walls come down" thats when he hits bottom, perhaps over dose. in the death throws he says "I don't mind." the H might be heroine. not sure though.

  • Right and wrong, and to know the difference. That's what I think this is about.

  • I thought this song was about his mother dying.

  • @jsbud333 totally agreed

  • Jebeno 8 !

  • its from the inner conscious, or, "god"s perspective to modern human beings

  • @jsbud333 not at all, in fact, i really appreciate the comment... you sorta made my day a little better, i needed it

  • If you couldn't figure it out, the song's about heroin.

  • @anusbleacher everyone has their own interpretation :p

  • @HaloVidz1

thats the beauty of abstractness. Your mind doesn't know what to do with the abstractness of the lyrics so your mind just pulls out it's own meaning.

    My theory anyways

  • @anusbleacher as much as that opens up my mind, i would love to take you completely serious, but your username cracks me up. I see where youre coming from though, i think you're right honestly.

  • @HaloVidz1 haha agreed i should of thought of that name. good tune!

  • Respond to this video... Doesn't really matter to me what it meant to Maynard. Most of his music speaks to my own experience, interpretation throughout years of listening. And it is still evolving

  • @HaloVidz1 Right on about the username. I still lol, @anusbleacher, laughing with you, not at you. I 100% agree with your comment

  • @anusbleacher There are many hints toward heroin yes, but there are also many insinuations toward the strength of Satan. "The Snake behind me hisses" Snake being one of the animal representations of Satan. "My blood before me begs me, open up my heart again" Possibly a calling from his inner self to release and remember who he is? Just my view. Anyone is entitled to what they believe :)

  • @anusbleacher Exactly! That's the whole point. Because it is all about the mind

  • @HaloVidz1 Word of Advice, put up a seizure warning. It really only takes 3 seconds of flashing to send someone to the hosital.

  • Maynard said once before a concert something to the effect that, in old cartoons, there is always a devil and an angel on your shoulder, telling you what to do. He said in real life, its not always that easy.

Also, I think his son has the middle name "H." Not abbreviated, just the letter H. Devo H. Keenan.

I think, on a personal level for Maynard, it deals with what Prison Sex dealt with-- the cycles of abuse. But it is beautiful and perfect enough to be whatever we see and feel it to be.

  • @Caesaro <3 true

  • @Caesaro finally someone who knows what they are talkin about, you are correct on his sons name and ive heard this song was for him cud be bullshit but it came from a legit source

  • @anusbleacher This song is not about heroin. It's about the relationship he had with his father (whose name I believe begins with the letter H) and considering that relationship he speaks of wanting to be a better father to his son, than his father was to him. (I think his sons name also begins with and H - Herbert or something like that).

But I guess if you find meaning in the song being about heroin, then enjoy it...

  • @ericsemidey its about his son devo h keenan....just listen to the lyric "my blood before me begs me open up my heart again'.....

  • @anusbleacher Whoa, totally not about heroin.

It's about when Maynard was molested as a child. His son wants him to open up to him, hint his blood before him begs?

He's saying that his past is left in the past, and he's not going to do that to his son.

  • @anusbleacher Giving people YOUR interpretation of the song with a declaration that it is the only interpretation makes you a "Tool."

  • Very well done with the HD! Beautiful listening experience.

  • Good job.....
