@TheHarvey57 No..the Beatles were not in the same league. They were a pop band loved by the masses, but very soft compared to the Stones who defined rock and roll . In fact, the Who are far better than the Beatles as well.
@jbstonesfan Actually you're very very wrong. The Beatles were in a league of their own and yes in 1964 they were THE cutting edge of Rock and Roll. Just take a look at what rock songs and singers were on the charts the year before the Beatles arrived and see the proof. The Beatles broke the door down so other British bands ( The Stones, The Animals,The Who) could enter.
@jbstonesfan I love the Stones and the Who but the Beatles defined and revolutionized rock and roll. Just say you hate the Beatles but don't try to insult our intelligence with bullshit like that. Either you must be incredibly naive or just stupid. I'm betting it's the latter.
One of the things that bugged me about this movie (although I absolutely LOVED the performances themselves) was that during most musical interludes, the cameraman was focused on Jagger or Richards--while Mick Taylor was playing mind-blowing leads and Keith was just standing there playing the same basic riff.
@CliffinAZ I was just about to post the same thing. It happens in The Last Waltz as well, the camera shoots Robbie while Garth is playing a solo or someone else is singing
I couldn't disagree with neilus more here. Mick Taylor's guitar work was a HUGE part of the Stone's sound and success during this time. It gave an authenticity to the bluesiness of the their music that the Stones never had before or afterwards. And you're dead wrong in saying that it was all Jagger and Richards--Taylor made tremendous contributions to the Stone's songwriting; writing main riffs to songs, etc. that he simply (and wrongly) wasn't given credit for on the albums at the time.
Can anybody ever rock like the Stones?? I saw them live at the Garden in 1969, and 1972, .... they were the most amazing band live ever. They runned all over you like a Mack Truck with so much soul, rythms, harmonies, sounds, colors and just so much fun. Ever since then I've been a Stone, in spirit and soul.
Mick Taylor was a great guitarist, but a terrible Rolling Stone...i just dont buy this whole "Mick Taylor era" stones line...with the Beatles out of the equation the Stones brilliantly took the whole industry by the balls and became frighteningly good, it didnt harm having Taylor on guitar but lets face it it was Keiths songs and Micks showmanship that made them so fucking special at this time, and tehyd still have kicked ass with my grannys cat on 2nd guitar
@neilus I could say the opposite about Ron Wood. Does he fit the image of the Stones? He does with flying colors, but I don't like his guitar work at all. I know the Stones built their music on the basis of guitar weaving but he does it literally TOO WELL. His style is too slick, and although Mick and Keith were the highlight of this era, Mick Taylor had a captivating, gritty style that created a trademark era of the Stones, the best in many people's minds.
By the 1972 tour Jagger had really learnt to tread the boards didn't he? So much more fluid in his dance than he was on the 1969 tour, the left hand on the hip was a very difficult move to do [try it] yet very professional.
Mix in the guitar work of Richards,/Taylor, the strength of Watts and Wyman and the extra courtesy of Price/Keys/Hopkins, there will never be s beter sounding Stones tour ever again and that includes the 1973 tour IMHO.
@cn854 I' am totally agree ! Mick learnt a lot how moove / dance / look the public ! And for me Mick Taylor learnt too much lol an outplayed the band totally ... It was just an amazing tour ! And in 1973 Taylor uped his level again and outplayed them totally again ... Greatest band forever !
What you are looking at here is the Greatest Rock 'N Roll Band the World Has Ever Seen. Are they the Greatest R'N R Band now? No...sad to say. But, U2, ACDC, Led Zep----at their peaks....live at least, could never compare to The Rolling Stones 1972-1973.....Nobody could.
@kenpacha75 Haha, who do you think the greatest rock n roll band is now? There are none! That's why the Stones will forever be the greatest. My personal list is 1. Stones 2. Led Zeppelin 3. AC/DC 4. Bob Dylan 5. The Beatles (I just put the Beatles there because of the impact they had on music, I respect them very much as musicians, but could give a rat's ass about their songs
I think this Stones lineup with Keith Richards and Mick Taylor and also Bobby Keys and Jim Price was the all time best. Funny in the intro "What's taking them so long? Maybe they met a girl in the hallway"
sorry there is only one greatest rock and roll band its the stones in the late 60's and early 70's untouchable beatles are too soft for me

Is Keef using standard tuning on this one?
Maybe he keeps the Strat on standard and the Tele on Open G?
Anybody know?

@brianallancobb He is in open G. GDGBD low to high.

It looked to me as if his fingering was more complicated than was necessary for open G. I'll look again. Thanks!
