  • @chevguy502 true but they also have tons of wiring and computers all over the place you have to be pretty much a computer tech as well

  • Unreal Engine Stones...

  • thats actually pretty cool!

  • @reynir17 I see that now:)

  • good ideas but highly doubt it'd work that well or at all in the real world. Way to many things that could go wrong.

  • Good concept, archaic visualisation.

  • Only thing i dont like is that it has one little "Camera", i hope that by the time this badboy ever gets built they have some serious Heads Up Display technology and even helmet mounted instruments. Thats what i'd like to see.

  • mom, mom, mom!! look! it's a EXCAVATOR !

  • Interesting, very interesting.

  • Do we really have to walk like this in the future?!?

  • Cute remote control.. At least, until the remote system gets hacked by /b/ros on 4chan and the machine gets trolled on the jobsite.. YOU get blamed and fired.

  • @hwoods01

    Rules 1 and 2.

  • is is the future it can be like that in 2013 or 2015

  • I want this on gta

  • looks dumb

  • Unless there is metal I'm not aware of the boom looks like it will have to be welded alot...

  • this is supposed to come out when?? idk but im sure that lil feature to cover more ground would come in handy at the beach we would use it at

  • I like the idea of the independent suspension, but this machine looks too light to do any serious digging. Would be awesome in wetlands and the self levelling feature would be a real bonus for grading. And yes, there seems to be limited space for the engine. Also, there seems to be no allowances for escape.

  • Que doido, muito bom.

  • This would be cool for a track armored mechwarrior

  • AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA ya that is gonna happen.. NOT

  • Umm where does the fucking engine go?

  • The guy moves so fukin slow lol

  • OMG!, i wanna pink one!!!

my aussie co-workers gonna enjoy that !!!

    lol

  • it would do away with a tilt bucket just using the tracks to get the required angle.

  • These ideas might have their place is smaller specialized machines but the KISS principle still holds, especially when playing in the dirt.

  • honestly the 4 tracks is the only think that is good about it because once it breaks down its done nobody is going to know how to work on it and fix it and nobody is going to know what is wrong, and now you are relying on technology and not on people so if some thing brakes it wont be working right. That cab idea is just bad I hope that never catches on I already know that will brake for sure

  • @underwaterwoodfall will send tecks to school to learn to repair, and now everything is computer aided.

  • @sixtiesforever1966 yeah i agree people will learn how to fix it and operate it, but it will change heavy equipment to much, they should make little changes to it first, like the bucket, then in a year change the tracks. but it was also fine how it was before it worked there is no need to change it, like a car, there is no need to change them they work fine.

  • the 4 tracks is a great idea, but it would only really last in light duty work, working in rock like in highway construction it wouldnt last. and all the other small things would just be more unnecessary and would never get fixed by a mechanic, so theyre rather pointless. oh yeah, what construction worker wears tights??

  • the 4 tracks is a great idea, but it would only really last in light duty work, working in rock like in highway construction it wouldnt last. and all the other small things would just be more unnecessary and would never get fixed by a mechanic, so theyre rather pointless

  • yay more glass for the pikes to smash

  • No advantage over tracks, reduced traction, increased ground pressure, more to go wrong, more expensive. light weight stick no use, reduced weight only any good for a crane, make an excavator light it wont dig it will just drag its self about.

Concept had no input by actual operators.

  • i look forward to operating something like this in the future couple of tidy gizmos on this machine but a couple of observations tha cab looks like a vandals dream needs some thort on vandal gaurds and the laser scan how would this work if you have been working in soft ground and the under carridge is covered in muck? But still a nice looking machine especially the remote mode keep up tha good work volvo

  • nice project,but detachable cab...

  • I like it. I'm an ACE excavator operator with 24 years in the seat and a BA degree. The concept is fantastic and it's about time the excavator was modded.

  • I WANT ONE!! :D

  • 2:41

I DARE you to find a manifold like that

  • doesn't even have a knuckle at the boom attachment, how are you supposed to dig a trench next to a wall? sort out the basics first volvo!

  • this says it when world is complete biohazard place we can drive around with thease dont haveto walk on it

  • About programming the work that has to be done with CAD and guiding the machine with GPS?

  • Looks like he's about to go mutilate people...

  • Incredible ideas, nice machine, the tracking, the remote features,85 there is to much glass for a heavy machine, I agree with pup085, but any other feature I think are great nice job. When can I see this done?

  • this is kinda cool!

  • yeah right

  • wow its still diesel? Weres the solar panels?

  • the dynamic counterweight is an incredible idea, i don't know why that isn't on every new excavator & loader right now. i work for a distributor of loader and excavator scales (Loadrite) and I can only imagine how hard it will be to compensate for all of the added motion dimensions when attempting to garner an accurate weigh.

  • Hey machine wait for meee !

  • lol robocop 0:44

    no really, nice machine

  • Hmm...From 00:28 to 01:53, the music sounds like the beginning of a popular NIN (Nine Inch Nails) song. On a more serious note, the front "see-through" corner pillars look like they were borrowed from Volvo's concept car from about two years ago.

  • This is the future

  • That's How great ideas are born! excellent work.

  • it's good than volvo cars :D

  • niiice!

  • nin!!!!!

  • Estaremos viendo esta maquina en futuro próximo porque esta sensacional

  • It is much too high to be transported on a truck!

  • Wooow, amazing animations. ;)

  • this will just cost to much :S

there is some things i like but the are some i don´t. somethings is missing :S

  • one word - wow.

  • whatevar!

  • some good piont some bad, i like the tracks and counter wieght, remote controle is not out of the question, we have cranes that are remote controled , but the cab is daft i mean whats the piont.then that means why have remote control..

  • love the tracks now lets see someone build it lols.

  • i'm no expert but the concept looks pretty cool

  • I'm sure the track system would have ground pressure and weight distribution sensors to keep you retards from wrecking into 'soft spots'. It would get pretty beat up in some of the rock piles I've been in though, and that cab would not last long either. Movable counterweight, nah. Remote control, hell yeah! If you could just fit the cab into the local bar....

  • hm hm sure!!

    belief it self!

  • geniales konzept ! wird es auch gebaut ? prototype ? was würde solch ein bagger kosten?

  • WOW! That's what we've been waiting for! At last: an excavator THAT CAN CHANGE IT'S COLOR !!! ( 2:13) ;-)

  • Pretty awesome concept.

The thought of being "run over by your own digger" came to mind when being controlled remotely

  • I can't imagine any of this ever becoming standard. This is obviously dreamed up by someone with no idea about day to day use of such machines. The track system would be a hazard due to its ground pressure characteristics, the bit where they swivel to cope with the stepped terrain in particular could make the machine topple is a soft spot was encountered. The detachable cab has no benefits and would be unreliable, the bucket cam is a waste of technology. The dreams of a child...

  • @yevadyllis People could not imagine horseless carriages either, and what about those crazy people who wanted to fly like birds and what about those dreamers wanting to travel to the moon? They belong in the insane asylum I am telling you.

  • very nice a+++++++++++++++++++

  • This machine is great; minus the glass.

Folks your machines of today are lowtech garbage. This is what's needed to spur on the; SAFER,smarter, faster, lighter, stronger, more EFFICIENT era. Current exca's look like dinosaurs b/c they R! Heavy, slow, fuel hogging, transport nightmare!

Cut the tough-guy act; U don't like it b/c it doesn't look like your old-beast exca-. If this were real, it would out work 2 of your machines! By the TIME you get onsite; it's long started working & nearly finished DUH?

  • Don't know if I'd try that in my Kubota U35!!

  • Comment removed

  • I've never seen such bullshit out of an excavator. This just takes the piss and ruins the whole concept of an excavator...

  • the counterwieght feature is pretty nice..but volvo should really focus on making a diesel turbo charger that lasts more than 60k miles before they worry about this!

  • Interesting. I don't know about the latice boom. lattice has compresion strength but not much tortional strength. but maybe it could be worked out. ran my first Volvo excavator last week. I liked it but I dont think I would buy one. I dont have a dealer close. I am afraid parts would be high. I had a Komatsu' and that was the problem with that. Holy crap the parts were through the roof. I run a Cat with 26,000 hrs on it. I wonder if my buddy will get that many hrs out of his Volvo?

  • super idea i think so should work

but maybe we dont need a operator works allone

    digger robot

  • thats cool

  • I like some of the concepts here, like the independant tracks, but maybe a little simpler version first. I really like the active counterweight. Give a lighter, easier to move machine a big digging advantage.

Just make sure to not make it so complex it is not reliable. I think the concept shows some promise though.

  • yea i think the undercarriage idea is nice the detachable cab not a good one. active counterweight good. the whole digging by camera n remote control i dnt like. cause in reality excavators arent used for just 4digging dirt. undercarriage great though n the arm n stick look weak on the machine keep them a solid piece. i like the design now just lessen the fuel consumption without taking away the power n liftin capacity. just my opinon

  • Amazing ideas !

  • look ok but the detachable cab bad idea

to dangerous i love the 4 track great idea and the counter weight awesome , wat sizes are use making then in over 100 tonne would be sweet but the drive motors might not handle that weight , and theres to much glass on the cab would need 3 a/c would get to hot . keep the ideas coming reat stuff

  • Thanks for your comment! Please understand that this concept is based, in some part, on technologies that have yet to be developed. It also relies on future developments that may or may not have been tested but are certainly not yet commercially available. But we are working on it :-)

  • @GlobalVolvoCE you can do it all! you have the technology, trust me. All is so easy to happen :-)

If you want any idea, just ask me ;)

  • @pup085

visibility versus comfort in winter which only some of us experience. Maybe we are not the majority up here in Canada

  • the under carriage looks like a crossover of two existing machines... the

articulated steering of the Menzimuck A111 and the tracks from the Kaiser S3 Track (both walking excavators) but different from the volvo ideas (where the tracks are turned to level out and not the legs of the walking excavator)

  • Thanks for your comment! The adoption of four tracks is to make them more wheel-like. When driving on rough ground traditional tracks tiptoe and the contact area is quite small. Four tracks have a much higher contact area with the ground, aided by independent suspension to each track, suspended via a swing arm from a central pivot. Each track has a separate wheel motor, which can brake, accelerate and even turn.

  • cant wait to work on them !!!!

  • lets hope in years to come that driving a volvo wont mean showing up to work in a blue spandex body suit

  • Luckily Volvo operators are free to choose his / her own outfits, both now and in the future..

  • that is one spooky machine !
