  • babysitters' best tool. thank you mary poppins, you are an inpiration to babysitters everywhere XD

  • I wish they'd make a second Mary Poppins, but not make her look old like in the play they did. (they also made her look a littler fatter-wtfh?) But it'd be nice if they persued the Mary-Bert love thing a bit more.

  • @MegaMonkeyTrouble they can't really have a love Mary and Bert thing... Mary babysat Bert and it'd be kinda awkward.

  • @LadyAmalthia15 shes not that old in the original. in fact, I'm pretty sure she's younger. It'd be funny if he knocked her up and then the only kids she'd be sitting would be theirs.

  • Did anyone here know that the boy who played Michael Bank died?

  • I really had to search for this song.. i can't believe there are people who take the trouble typing 'marry poppins sta ... ' and than think: oh, wait.. i don't like this song ... To me this song is pure sentimental! when i was a kid Mary Poppins (and chitty bang bang ) were turned grey at our place!

  • I love this song because it helps me go to sleep

  • i came hear to try and stay awake fuck

  • My mama used to sing this to me every night when I was little... I'll sing it to my kids... they'll sing it to theirs... I think Mary Poppins is a good tradition.

  • Scary Mary!!!

  • I clicked on this thinking that it would help me stay awake...that plan didn't work out too well

  • my 3 year old loves this movie and so I started singing this song at bedtime. She immediately recognizes it and will stare at me but it only takes two or three verses before she's out like a light.

  • OWNED BY REVERSE PHYCOLOGY!

  • @mobiline Aaaaha :P

  • This is what my Mom sang to me every night as a little kid. My favorite part, for reasons still unknown to me, is /still/ "though your pillow's soft and deep". This will forever be my favorite lullaby.

  • It's a magical song, whatever Mary Poppins says has some kind of power! No matter what time of day, if my sister and I are watching this, she falls asleep at this point in the film! Everytime..

  • when i clicked on this i was hoping for the song by example :L

  • @chocolatespread1990 Well you found a piece much better :)

  • Watch "Scary Mary" & you'll wish you've never heard this song

  • She is adorable

  • she's so beautiful...

  • Me too... everytime I hear Julie Andrews songs from before it just makes me think about how she can't sing anymore. It's really sad. But other than that you did a really great job (yawn). Nighty night!

  • Incredibly beautiful and soothing song, and hopefully one day i will sing my children to sleep with this song.

  • I loved Julie Andrews voice it was so delicate and beautiful.

  • ...and Link was stunned.

Navi: *sigh* Here's hoping your dream doesn't make you explode like Mega Man...

  • nothing on solange!!!!!!!!!!!

  • her voice is perfect

  • My husband makes fun of me because I sing a version of this to my 3 year old daughter. I always loved Mary Poppins when I was growing up and at 32 this song still makes me feel emotional when I hear it... remembering how things were back when I was a kid. I think she was very clever.

  • Lovely, absolutely lovely!

  • Reverse psychology... very clever.

  • @hellsing3x6

well the effect doesn't have much to do with reverse psychology... it's the tune that makes one sleepy. The lyrics helped in making the kids like Mary though, that's right.

  • God, she's gorgeous.

  • @DreamersGirl66: I couldn't have said it better.

  • It's a kind of magicmusic. She's put a spell on them. I always thought Mary Poppins was marvellous as well as a bit scary, because of this song. a bit like father christmas

  • @essie125 Mary Poppins is a witch.

  • Julie took 47 (they say) takes to get this the way she wanted it - perfect! Brava!

  • DAMN YOU JULIE ANDREWS!!DAMN YOU AND YOUR REVERSE PSYC*zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*

  • k so this is a lullaby and i decided to watch this video at 2337.... i think i am actually ready for bed now. zzzz

  • I used to have a preschooler who refused to sleep during naptime and would do her best to keep all the other children awake. One day I told her she didn't have to sleep, just rest. She fell asleep like that.

I can't wait to sing this to my own children someday. It's my favorite song to sing when just exercising my voice.

  • My mum used to sing this for me....... Im 24 and I still get her to tuck me in, not the lullaby though, that would be a little much! Poor mum, she'll never have grandchildren at this rate!

  • *yawn* I'm going to bed now.

  • I hum this tune to my daughter. I've done it since I brought her home from the hospital, I just didn't remember all the words, but it worked!

  • Thanks for making and posting this.

  • I was falling asleep at the keyboard when I started watching this. I then fell asleep for 15 minutes during this. lol, as expected.

  • lovely! I would have loved to hear what the live musical actress done with this song. Too bad it wasn't in it.

  • I'm sixteen years old and while i'm singing the song i still fall a sleep! Beautiful song and well written i've you wanna fell a sleep!

  • I just yawned so hard I popped the muscles in my jaw.... this is..... *snores*

  • My Inspiration has made me feel to tired to watch "Bones" so I will not listen to any more and when it comes on in 25 mins I should be good so now I will listen to "Supercalifragilisticepialidocious"

  • lol dumb kids trying to test may poppins. she put them rite to sleep. cupicaik124 is right, reverse psychology rofl

  • I have sleeping problems, I should just listen to this before I sleep, should work like a charm.

  • It's probably not a good idea to show this in theaters. In one minute they'll all be knocked out cold.

  • I'm learning this song to sing to my baby boy. I'm trying to stay awake so I can learn it.

  • As a 21 year old, I am yawning right now, dame julie aka Mary poppins got the better of me once again....

    Im turning in now :D

  • What?

    That wasn't funny?

Sorry, I guess you had to be there.

  • At the end of the take Julie decides to find some fun with the children..................

She sings the last line thus "Stay awake, don't nod and (just as she does here).....

and then she screams the last word (DREAM) in an range 1 1/2 octaves higher than the last note really is here while also gritting her teeth and crossing her eyes.

  • Thank you Mary Poppins. I'm going off to bed now (it's 1.15 am here- I really should be asleep!).

  • I'm trying to learn the words and use this on my daughter lol!

  • this does make ppl fall asleep...i just almost did & i'm watching it right now on FMC Family on foxtel

  • ah man almost fell asleep

  • REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY!!!!!

  • @MofoGuro HAHAHAHA. that is awesome.

  • night night :)

  • If you actually pay close attention, they film more of Matt than Karen during this song, since she can't really 'act' sleepy, thus why they always show Matt.

  • whenever i hear this and think that she can't sing it anymore i'm just reduced to a puddle of tears...........

  • Thank you for this! I've been looking for some variety in the lullabies I sing my one year old daughter. I had wanted to start singing her this particular song but kept forgetting most of the lyrics. This is going to help bunches! =)

  • In the Julie Andrews biography I read that this lullaby was the hardest song for Julie to sing (concerning Mary Poppins)!

They didn't say why, but she needed about 50 records until it was perfect.

Hard to believe, Julie is really such a briliant singer!! :-)

  • I think it had something to do with the emotion, not the notes :)

  • FUNNEHH AHAH LOL !!! XX =]

  • i was watching this movie at midnight (big mistake)... almost fell asleep during this song.

  • is she knitting a muffin?

  • @bbot2000729

    Exactly. A muffin. LOL!

Seriously, yeah. What is that thing?

  • @bbot2000729 She's darning a sock, the egg shaped ball inside holds the shape while you fix it.

  • julie andrews has always been a great role model for anyone to follow. even though she lost her ability to sing, her acting and her memorable smile always reminds me of when i first saw her on this movie.

  • Makes me very tired still (as a 26 year old adult), awhh clever Ms. Poppins and your reverse physcology.

  • I was about to say that...I'm also 26 lol =)

  • Haha bring backs memories. I also love the part just before this when Mary, Michael, and Jane have to take their medicine. And Mary's flavor was rum punch and she hiccups (:

  • Now I can't sleep. Thank you very much, Mary fucking Poppins.

  • LMFAO!!!

  • I looked this up to refresh myself on the lyrics, so that I could sing this to my 3-month-old.....little did I know its power also works on 4, 6 & 9 year olds!!! Not to mention their father... :-) Bravo! and thank you for posting this w/ lyrics!

  • haha, i want to be you when i grow up you ledgend!

  • verusvita989 thank you i knew that because i also love the sound of music another movie of julie andrews

  • yeah thanks for the upload - I loved this film when it came out and and saw it again and again - it's the sweetest movie ever made. now I must go to bed! :)

  • the little kid an mr banks are dead, but mrs bank act in a movie call "while you were sleeping" is the granmother of peter an jack, and mary poppins is in princess diarie 1 and 2, and bert is in a night in a museum

  • @Gal031 Julie Andrews is Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke is Bert if you wanted to do further search on them

  • Dick van Dyke?

    Is he dutch?

  • Maybe... I think he was born in America, though.

  • yes he is dutch i think or at least what my mom told me.

  • @lilirishsis1 No, he was an British or American.

  • @lilirishsis1 Well, he is half Dutch and half American. I saw that on the Dutch version from Wikipedia. My first comment to you was wrong, so forgive me about that. :-)

  • That little kid has Hitler hair.

  • damnit this is making me sleepy and yawn

  • dang i wish i had someone like mary poppins to cure my insomnia!

  • Me too :P But my insomnia is a symptom of the learning disability that I have, so my sleeping problems will never be cured.
