He made this world record (mentioned in this video) in last November 2007, but surpassed it in Berlin just three weeks ago and improved it for 27 seconds. Amazingly, this man runs faster every time despite his age, he really demonstrates the endurance of human body not to mention his mental determination.

I'm Kenyan and anybody that knows anything about long distance running knows the rivalry between Kenyans and Ethiopians. Haile has broken Kenyan hearts time and again but I'm struck by the similarities we have in terms of upbringing, struggles and values. This guy is truly a legend and I'm enormously proud of his accomplishments both on the track and in philanthropy. Long distance running has done a lot to East Africa and it's something we have to be thankful for.

at age 23, she has been crowned as the 2007 Female World Athlete of the Year during the World Athletics Gala hosted by International Athletic Foundation (IAF). first African woman to be crowned with this title in the history of World Athlete.

Winner of all her races this season, including two world records. Haile Gebreselassie who broke world records more than 26 times including the Marathon, received Inspirational Award.

The pace makers are the ones who dropped out. They are only there to pace him for a certain distance so he could stay on world record pace. After a certain distance they drop out.  Pace makers are also used in shorter races even 800 meters where you have someone run with you for the first 400 meters and then they drop out just like the video.
