I just read your comment on The Spellbinders performing Danny Boy with Jackie Wilson...Jackie told me that the Spellbinder's singer had such a soft voice that he (Jackie) was drownding him out, so he sang without the mike...

The story of this is that Jackie Wilson had a throat infection and the Spellbinders "helped him out" when Jackie got to the last high notes that he couldn't sing he threw the mike to Bobby Shivers who caught it, dropped to his knees and sang the last part, the crowd went wild. A great group

"Before THey Were Hits". So far there are 5 existing volumes. That's where I heard the original version of this song, on volume 3,

which also contains the seldom heard orignal version of "Killing Me Softly" by folk singer

Lori Lieberman, before Roberta Flack made it a hit.
