A lot of British fans here seem to be upset that Marriott didn't turn out like Paul Weller, i.e. still obsessed with his hairstyle and clothes beyond the years of his youth. But I think you're fundamentally overlooking what kind of personality Steve was. He wasn't in the least bit self-conscious, this is what made him such a charismatic presence in front of an audience. To be concerned with what you look like all the time requires a degree of self-consciousness that he simply didn't have.
Steve was off the hook. very genuine. no poseur here, just tight rock and roll for anyone who wanted to hear it. Always liked Jerry's drum work too !!
All that outta barely Five Feet!!! Always an AMAZING Showman. Did a show here in Clevo Ohio USA shortly before He left Us. Told storys of wanting to watch Football, but NO Tellie. Heads to Framptons House (now on the Saturday Night Fever/Comes Alive Wave), Mum & Dad live with Pete and Mum answered the door..."No He's NOT in, be gone Ruffians!!" Grumbling back to the Pub and crane a neck....Thank You Steve Marriott......PEACE
What a tight outfit these guys were. I for one always seem to overlook Steves accomplished playing, probably because I'm so mesmorised with his unique voice, sadly missed.
Yes it does break every fans heart. We have to remember that the guy was a one off and at least we can still listen to his music. Nearly twenty years after his death he is still the greatest unsung hero of the rock and roll world and always will be!!! Thanks Steve you will always bring a smile to my face.
Bloody FANTASTIC!!! Music does not get any better than this. Other singers can try but they will never come close to the mind blowing, legendary musician the one and only STEVE MARRIOTT!!!
Who even cares about his overalls?? Why is that such a big deal? Personally, when I see Steve performing here, sounding so good and having such a fun time, his overalls are the LAST thing on my mind. How can you say he is not good looking here? :/ When he smiles, his whole face lights up. I think he is adorable.
In 1987 I Roadied for Steves "Packet of Three" named after Trojan condoms packaging of 3 condoms per pack. And he,Jerry and Bob Leverton (bass & Vocals) were a fun bunch of English blokes and it just killed me that he died the way he did,Almost the exact same way Jack Cassidy(the actor) did,
kanemura93 cont-The dungarees were hideous and he knew it BUT his true fans and I include myself as I saw the Small Faces live and have followed Steve's voice and talent ever since will not be put off. I hate how he looks he even has a hideous haircut another way of detracting but his voice, spirit and talent are too good to miss. I am sad that he died too soon and on the verge of a reunion with Peter Frampton. The airwaves are the sadder without any new music from this exceptional talent.
Tundraclap - watch and listen to Steve with his first band The Small Faces - in particular Tin Soldier - he will blow you away as will the whole band - they are all terrific. I saw them in 1965 and have always listened to him including this. I have rebought some of the small faces on line and have loaded them to my iPod shuffle as I only have the 45s and LPs - old stuff now and well worn out. You won't be disappointed. Alison
It depresses me the thought that there is no musicians like steve around these days, and probably never will. I'm too young to have experienced them first hand when they were still around, but I can try my hardest to cling onto any great sounds I find.
he was fun to work with seriously intense but there was a touch of mischief he always had. I miss that silly grin and laugh he always had. gawd he could sing and always played his ass off be a small club or a concert hall.
kanemura93 -Steve as I am sure you will know was the lead singer with the Small Face-1965ish and was fashionable for the time. However, Steve only ever wanted to be known for his music and as time went on he broke away from the Small Faces, as you know and formed Humble Pie and so on. It is my opinion that he particulary wanted to disassociate himslef from 'looking good, looking cute, looking anything really' because he only wanted people to listen/watch him for his music only.
P of 3, probably the best incarnation of all Steve's bands. He was long enough in the tooth and free to be blues creative without other band members whinging. Gained so much experience by this time.
Thank God this one exists!! Marriott was one of the most talented and underrated artists in the genre. Saw him twice. I've missed him. This guy could blow off every hair band of the eighties, grunge band of the nineties and all the heavy rockers that followed. Truly superb and unique. And thank BloozeRockJunky for posting it.

Fantastic. Edge has nothing on Steve's guitar plaing. Bono would be embarrased to follow this guy.
Steve Mariott: great guitarist unmatched singer. Tina Turner wishes she could crank out searing vocals as good as this.
