I beleive a community owned farm where everyone owns the farm land and participates to various degrees on the farm is the most equal. After all I grew up on a farm and we had lot of free time off season to play while everyone else worked 5 and 6 days a week the entire year. Just my opion of equality.
@wafflemantv Its not so much a barter system (though for certain subscribers it is). It is based on the exchange of money primarily so the farmer can plan and purchase seed/equipment in the off-season and have the security to start what is normally a pretty risky venture.
Farming has mostly been taken over by large companies like Monsanto and Con-Agra. We can cut into this monopoly by growing what we can with what land we have. Decades past they called them "victory gardens". I think this will be coming back--big time.
I wesh to bring your attention to DENNIS KUCINICH (D-Ohio), running for president.
Voting for Dennis Kucinich will be helpful to farmers and to all of us. He is vegan and he wants to eliminate NAFTA. Let's vote him in. Inform your members.
If you're interested in freedom then support your state's secession movement. Direct Democracy is real, our representative democracy is a sham guided by large multi-national corporations whose interests include profit, profit, and using the government to help them gain more profit... often at our expense
An examply of poor shipability: Around this time of year, I want Louisanna strawberries. Their fruit is more sweet and tender than others. I've had them shipped by mail and even driven the 10 hour ride on the back of a truck, but I always lose about half.
Most CSA subscriptions are quite expensive. Most who are in extreme poverty also do not have access to land to grow their own food either. Programs that provided land and taught the poor how to grow their own food are better bets (ex. community gardens).

We should eat with the seasons and eat more of what's locally available.

CSA seems to be a good model for sustainable food production for our country's efforts to solve extreme poverty.
