  • Thanks so much for the great info. I painted a retaining wall for my On30 railroad using your procedures and it turned out great!! Good stuff!!

  • Thanks for the information

  • Hello Ross,

Do you think this will work with plastic wall, like in the Faller kits?

  • @77alnel, The paint technique only works on material that allows the paint to soak into it. You will have to use opaque type paints.

  • wonderfull work, thanks for sharing your techniques. I have some retaining wall work to do so Im sure this will help mine turn out better than my portals lol

  • 7 hrs wow you would need a hobby

    to recover ............

    very nice work

  • Wow Do you live in a rain forest? Not only are you a first class Modeller But also a very Desent and Genuine guyyou seem to manage to reply to most coments, if only i had you patients on my layout, i seem to buy pre-built everything now lol

  • @hitchhiker38 Hi hitchhiker38, Thankyou for your comments. The birds you hear are local to the area I live in but no rain forest. I enjoy all aspects of the hobby.

  • wow im impressed abt the resault and ur patient finish that.

  • Very Nice. Can you tell me did you make the wall or did you purchase them. Also what was your paint mixture ratio ?

  • 77alnel, The wall was made from plaster castings, one for the arched section and another for the solid wall behind which where then glued together onto a wooden profile.

  • love the birds in the background, wish I could work in that environment!

  • Very very good!!! Interesting!!! Thank you!!! 5 stars and favourites!!

    Bye Bye,

    Sam

  • TheBestSam94, thanks for your comment and *'s

  • TheBestSam94, Thanks for your kind comment.

  • Hi, that's nice and verry interesting!

1 more question, what is the material of the wall, and how you get it cuved? thanx a lot. Greatz!

  • PeterBrz89, The wall was moulded in sections using plaster. Thanks for your question and comment.

  • May I suggest that next time you start with the black background, then using a small roller, stiff brush, sponge, or even a fingertip to paint over the bricks with each different color. I think it might go quicker then.

  • jimsmatrix, thanks for your comment and suggestion. Covering a dark colour with a light colour will require more paint and I didn't want to loose the texture in the bricks.

  • WOW! It looks absolutely amazing. Nice job!

  • NafisC, Thanks for your comment.

  • Another great vid...thanks for posting, you really know how to bring a layout to life, fantastic....Mike..

  • plugsy, Thanks for your comment and praise.

  • RMS55, how did you make those retaining walls?

  • kev12121, The moulds were home made. A section of two arches was made along with a plain section of wall. A silicone rubber mould was made of each section. Many casting were made then cut to size. Thanks for your comment.

  • takaratomy123456, The hand made bricks were cast in plaster as a long strip then the strips were cut to brick size. See comments above re the moulding of the brick walls.

  • Ross, you and John are doing a marvelous job the layout(s), I think in the plaster video for the rock moulds its your layout right? I would love to see a video on how you made the 15,000 brick moulds? If not the next time you do make something like that could you please make one?I have seen alot of folks use a Alcohol and india ink process using a spray bottle to highlight the grout lines instead of painting each stone. Worked well for me on a mountian project I did, can't wait to see more, Pat

  • Pat, Thanks for your comments and encouragement. I may make a small video re making the bricks in the future as yours is the second request for this. As for the grout lines a wash of ink would make the wall darker and as it is a feature wall which can be viewed close up I chose this method.

  • very nice bro. every detail keep it up...

  • nilamas, Thanks for your comment.

  • Thats a realy nice wall :)

  • geekgoth, Thanks for your comment.

  • bluetootholiver, Thanks for your comment. The stone brick viaduct was built with home made bricks, well over 15,000 and took six months to build by Des.

  • Hi Ross,

very impressive - you're clearly a perfectionist! A credit to you. I like also how layout includes large, multi-loco roundhouse & l'scape around it neatly.

Q: assuming turntable is Märklin model, have you scratch-built roundhouse to suit ?

I want to do similar & wondered source.

  • atrainfan1, Thanks for your comments and question, I try to do things to the best of my ability. Yes the turntable is sold by Märklin, designed and sold also by Fleischmann and the round house is Fleischmann # 6476.

  • Hi Ross,

thanks for quick answer. I'll get the Pymble train shop to order for me. rgds Al.

  • ennout, thanks for your comments. It's John's layout, I just enjoy helping him build it.

  • Very nice ross
