thanks a lot for putting this vid up, you are a great instructor and every single video you guys have helps even if i already know the technique. i'm going to apply this and see if my mounted armbars improve. thanks again!
Is there a possible problem if I dont feel anything from arm bars? I mean its only on one side but the guy who did it was an accomplished instructor but he was trying to get me to tap but I didn't feel any need to..? Any ideas? And he was going 100% and full speed
Hey Ari, what's your thoughts on crossing the legs when you perform an armbar? Sometimes it's a instinct of mine to cross the legs when I take a arm, but my jiu-jitsu coach says that's a no-no.
the hardest part to getting to s-mount, is getting to a high mount initially. once you get to a high mount, its relatively easy to transition to s-mount. and once you're in s-mount, its relatively easy to get a submission.
This is one of my highest percentage set ups for an armbar. I usually finish from the top without falling back. That way, it seems like the arm lock is instantly tighter and there's less chance of an escape. It's also a great option for MMA because if you're balanced well, you have one free hand to distract your opponent with strikes so he gives up the arm more easily. Excellent demonstration!
I noticed you crossed your feet when you went for the armbar? Is it simply used for control or is there any difference when you do not corss your feet?
@rommyali A lot of guys will try to bridge to escape the armbar. If you hook the leg, it is much harder to bridge. It also just ties them down that much tighter.
This is my favorite armbar from mount set-up. We did this in class a couple months ago, and I instantly loved it for it's control. The way you can keep your weight on your opponent, and how it allows you to attack an opponent who's t-rexing have helped immensely. When I demonstrated this to my friends, I simply called it "The Douche Armbar", simply because it puts so much pressure on the bottom guy. =P
I use the S mount a lot because I have short limbs and it just seems to work better, I usually fake Americana or Kimura on the opposite arm and then secure the arm closest and fall back with a very tight armbar.
Something I do is, instead of basing on the ground with the right hand I'll try to push his left knee to the ground. This turns him to his left a little making the arm bar even tighter.
lol me and my friend were grappling the other day and i apparently already knew this lol ^.^ but thanks for the tips, cuz i did struggle with it a bit.
id love to pull this off, but at this point of my grappling career its really hard for me to work from mount, i get swept more than anyone in class, its kinda sad to not have anything up my sleeve for such a dominant position, im hoping the s mount will help me set up an armbar a little easier
I learned not to pull the arm directly down in an armbar the hard way. my training partner wouldn't tap to my armbar so I pulled harder and literally crushed my dick with his forearm. it hurt so bad it felt like I was gonna piss blood.
Great vid. My instructor called this the lazy armbar. The way we learned this was to hold the nearest leg so the guy cant buck. Is doing this a good idea? Thanks for all the great vids!
@steeler43013 this does work with no gi.. no offense, but can't you just use your imagination instead of requesting for no gi versions of moves that can be done with and without the gi? :S
@waldomarek dude i just asked if they would do more no gi stuff they havent done a no gi video in a while i like gi stuff its just where i train we do no gi thats all and im guessing u do gi jiu jitsu i didnt say nothing about gi i just dont do it. dont take it so personaly that someone trains no gi, and i didnt ask if u can do it no gi i just said it looks like that would work on no gi too even tho its not no gi

Maybe your mount is too high? Have you tried hooking underneath your opponents legs while on top?
