  • @rlanning0927 Anole is pronounced either way. Basking was pronounced wrong though.

  • I caught one And I can't buy a 10 gallon tank! I only have 1 and it's for my leopard geckos!!! Help! is there any way instead of setting it free? This is my first Anole. I never caught or was able to buy one! please Help!

  • how do u tell male from female

  • can you take a look at mine and tell me what i think? you seem to know what your doing and i like your set up

  • Hello, thx for video. I just started with my housing research on here. Currently im only using a red 25W red bulb I found in the house. I have my aquarium near the window and open my blinds up during the day. Isn't the UV lighting during the day enough for them? Some say that certain bulbs can blind them also. Any imput will help. Good video!!!

  • lol it looks like a salad

  • yes

  • Wow awesome care video!! I might be getting some anoles this weekend and i found this very informative. My snake is graduating from his 30gal long and I wanted to put it to good use and I've always loved anoles so I figured what the heck why not! lol

  • Though this does not mean anything, I always say terrarium when I speak of reptile and other small animal enclosures. :D

  • Why do all English talking people have an aquarium for reptiles? Haven't you heard of a terrarium? This is my 5th video I'm watching and everyone has an aquarium.

  • actually i have a 10 gal exo terra and i combfortably house 4 anoles in it, it all depends on the way you setup the tank, good job though i love the terrarium u have set up its great!!!!

  • what is a base king light?? dont you mean basking light?? lol

  • wat bulbs do u use???

  • its also ok for 2 in a 10 gallon

  • @artistdude24 A 10 gallon tank is a bit too small to create a temperature gradient, two in a 10 gallon tank would also be a bit cramped.

  • @pyr0static It is the minimum required. At least 10 gallons of space in captivity is required for the anole to be active and act as it would in the wild. Of course a 20 gallon would be optimal if you want to have 1 anole, and can comfortably fit 2 if you choose to put a female and male or two females together.

  • @DragonTU84 It's not so much a matter of room for the anole to move around and be active, it's just really difficult to create a proper temperature gradient of warmer to cooler when you have such a limited amount of space to work with.

  • can you have a tree frog with a brown anole?

  • she is from the country she doesn't know english. Basking Lights. Bass-king.

  • base kin lights?

  • holy damn wat a tank. that gage is so nice. way to go, can you sub me?

  • Is it okay if I use a 50 gallon tank for 2 anoles?

  • dude u coulkd house like 20 in a 50 gallon

  • ooo yea

  • yes but its a little over the top

  • can house geckos live with green anoles?

  • well if the gecko is nocturnal and has a hiding spot during the day, I'd say yes?

  • yes

  • Very nice video, good information for people planning to get an anole or renovate a habitat, any aspirations of becoming a herpetologist?

  • Very nice set-up and informative video! Nice accent too. British maybe?

  • Are you serious? British?.. haha ! It's CLEARLY American.

  • Hey I planning on getting Anole can I use those exo terra waterfalls for water?

  • Could I keep an american green anole with 2 male and female Knight anoles?

  • i would recomend getting 1 or 2 more green anoles, so the green anole has his own kind as well

  • NOO!!! Knight anoles can see the smaller green anoles as a mid-day snack, esp. the rather smaller females... and yes I have seen pet stores FEED green anoles to Knight anoles... and not only that but you NEVER want to mix species of animals.

  • anoles are the best

  • can you raise them individually?

  • this was a very informative video! nice job! I am going to get 2 female anoles in a couple weeks. i was wondering if an exo-terra 18Wx18Lx24H *that's in inches* would be big enough for them? thank you for taking the time to answer my question! =]

  • no accent its like british it sounds kewl

  • Haha, I am a girl and I don't have any accent. Definately not british, that is for sure.

  • sounds nowt like brit it more american

  • how much do these lizards cost cause i have like millions in my back yard

  • baaskin lights

  • hahahhaha funny voice baskin lights

  • Funny voice? I am a girl.... =_=

  • i have a 30 gal long, and all of my reptiles came from petland, and one by one they would all die off since petland doesnt really care about there helath. But now i have 3 anoles in my 30 gal long ={

  • baskin lights

  • I have 2 males who live in harmony. There probably gay

  • LOL

  • did you even watch the video

  • I have two anoles and my tank is a fourth that size and Ive had them for over a year!

But you have a really nice cage too.

  • Yes, it is 10 gallons of space per anole. I am not lying about this, believe me. I made the mistake of putting 4 in a 30 gallon, and the other anoles that were already common residents felt over-crowded and immediately started attacking the newcomer and tried to get her out of their territory. Believe me, 10 gallons of space per anole is ideal if you wish them to exhibit normal behavior. If you do not believe me, I can give you links to various websites claiming this same fact.

  • damn i want your tank grow weed with some animals in it lol

  • I have that TV, lol.

  • can i use repti-carpet

  • yes you can

  • Repti-carpet is a good temporary substrate. But a soil with no perilite, fertilizer or bark fines is ideal.

  • well you are right that it is 1 anole per 10 gal tank but having more than one anole in a bigger tank doesnt keep them from fighting well i dont see why its not a good idea to put a fogger in your tank but then make sure the fog isnt so dence that the lizards cant breathe basking lights are used to make heat for lizards because they are cold blooded. now for the crickets, you should only as much as they can eat in about, 10-15 minutes because you dont want the tank being overcrowded by crickets.

  • I am awere of this. The females often will still chase for territorial rights for breeding. And the same rule applies that you should NEVER EVER house 2 males in ANY enclosure. They will fight for territory and the females, and sometimes to the death.

  • M IS 50 GALLOON HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good for you

  • I have a question can I put a fogger in my anoles tank to keep humitidy up

  • wtf is a bayskin light?

  • basking

  • cheers....cool vid, lots of info i think i need a pen and paper to take it all in lol

  • how many crickets a day

  • I have two anoles, you should feed ONE anole about 2 crickets a day, because some times the crickets die in the cage. I have to feed my male anole 3 a day- he loves too eat!

  • basking and gauge are they that hard to pronounce ?????

  • wow these things are everywhere here feels weird to hear people having them as pets haha

  • COOL!

  • (A nole ees)

  • Can you tame anoles?

  • HA HAA HA YOUR AMERICAN ACCENT MAKES ME CHUCKLE LIKE AN OLD MAN! sorry dude. no offence.

  • lol

  • Nice setup 5/5.

  • sorry meant to ask if *both* anoles are still alive sine they are very aggressive with their space.

  • its not smart to have two males together in a 10 gallon tank, and a third anole would be very wrong since the minimum size for one anole is 10 gallons.

    Are bought males still alive?

  • Well I KNOW that silly. I don't have two males. I have 1 male and 2 females. I DID have 1 male, 3 females and a baby male anole, but the older female and baby passed away from parasitic infections. I didn't have a job (or a decent one) to afford to take them to the vet. Now I do... but it's too late for them...

I had two males together LONG AGO when I was like 13-18, but I am 24 now. That was ages ago. And yes it was a HUGE mistake. I had them in a 20 gallon with some females.

  • Oh, and I had the baby anole and older female in separate enclosures. I had the older female in with the others in the 30 gallon, but because of space it became a problem and the others tried to chase her away. So I put her in a 16 gallon and the baby in a smaller tank.

  • WOW that wuz like the best anole vid i have seen. ya i have a 10 gallon tank right now w/ 2 male anoles and I am planning on getting a 20 gallon tank and a female anole. should i get a third anole??

  • at night?

  • Yes, they need time to sleep. I put the lights on a timer so they are on for 12 hours or so per day.

  • ohh ya and do u turn any of the two types of ligths that your suppose to have

  • wait so can u just drop the food in the anoles cage or am i like suppose to hand feed it cause i really dont want to hand feed it im a first timer thats about to get an anole so i was just wonderin if u could like just drop the crickets in there and then just not worry about how hungry the anole will be cause it will eat them or should i hand feed them.

  • my anole is not opening his eyes, has black spots, and broken limbs. he is drinking little and not eating. his tail is gone to but i hear they grow back. what should I do ? i believe my cat got at him

  • What is the best way to feed anoles?...by hand or just putting the crickets in there cage?

  • Either way is just fine. Just don't get them too conditioned to hand-feeding, especially when you need to go away. Make sure they know how to hunt while you are away. I have that problem now with my male anole. He won't eat unless he STEALS it from one of the females or I hand-feed it to him. He has tried hunting, but usually to no avail. He usually just takes crickets from my hands or steals them from the females after they have hunted/caught one or if I hand-fed them one.

  • ok...thanks for your help!umm i have another question. i go out of town on the weekends alot and i usually take my anoles with me because i have no body to feed them while im gone...i wana start leaving them at home because i dont want to stress them by taking them out of there home all the time but i dont kno how to keep them feed while im gone. is there any speacial way that u keep them feed while you go out of town?

  • i am getting anoles this coming sunday and ive got the right temp and eveerything i have been monitoring it the past week and day and night temp is good, but i have a heat mat and a uvb 5.0 bulb, i am not sure if i would need any other heating like a regular bulb as it has two bulb attachments, as i say its the right temp so i dont think its nesaccery, thanks :D

  • Do NOT use a heating mat. The anoles are an arboreal species, so they live mostly in the branches and leaves of plants 90% of the time. I only see them go on the ground while hunting. What you should get is a basking light, which this video clearly explains about. The basking lights provide the anoles heat and warmth, and the anoles are attracted to that light for warmth, since in the wild anoles rely on the sun to bask and warm up for the day. They need shaded areas to cool off as well.

  • As far as the basking light(s) go, a regular light bulb will do. A clamp lamp/dome lamp placed over top the screen lid of the aquarium will do, and you can find cheap clamp lamps at Home Depot or Lowes if you live in the states. I get mine at Home Depot. Light bulbs can also be purchased cheap there. A regular light bulb will do, and the wattage depends on the size of your enclosure. I use a 60 watt and a 25-40 watt for the second basking light for my 30 gallon tall. My 16 gallon has 1 60 watt.

  • i dont really kno who to believe....both of your answers make since. but i really need to kno the correct answer. Thanks Anyway!:)

  • Please read my response below, and please pardon greenanolelovr for his/her blatant rudeness.

  • its not just a northern thing to pronounce it sounding like hole. But the correct pronunciation is actually like anolee.

  • Will Green Anoles Hybernate During the cold seasons when they are in their cage?

  • yea the will hybernate

  • incorrect...they may in the wild in rather cold conditions but never in captivity. It should never get anywhere near cold enough to allow/make them hibernate in the cage.

  • shutup they hybernate in the fall it is needed for life der der derrrrrr!!!!!!

  • Greenanolelovr, he is asking for helpful advice, and just because you own anoles does not mean you know everything about them. Please don't be so rude to the other posters and try not to be too egotistical, or else I will have to report you and block you. I have owned anoles for 7 years, and under such conditions an anole can die if forced under such bad conditions in captivity.

  • No, please read what Coolguy wrote. You should NEVER let it get as cold as it gets in the wild in an anole's home. Generally, temps should NOT fall below 65 degrees F. In the wild they will find warm places to hide and rest in the cold times, but in captivity they would not be provided with adequate places to stay warm, and this can also lead to an anole's death if forced under such rigid conditions.

  • ok. Thanks for ur help!!!:)

  • No problem. Glad I could be of some help. :)

  • i hear that in my book but its cool of u to tell people how to care for the anole

  • Actually the best advice I have gotten is not from books. Some books have rather crappy advice, and the best help I have gotten is herp owners who have owned anoles for most of their lives.

  • well the book is writen by a man who awned anoles for a very very long time

  • What is the book called? And who is the author?

  • quick and easy green anole care

  • Anol E

  • Around here we all pronounce it Anole like the word hole, with the E being silent. Just a northern thing I guess. :P

  • I live in the north. Massachusetts:D But i go to florida often.

  • Your 30 Gallon Tank Looks AWESOME! where did u get the supplies to add in the tank? How many anoles do u have in all?

  • I have 3 anoles in all. I had 5, a baby anole and another female in my 16 gallon with the hatchling in a 5.5 until he grew, but they both died of parasites. I tried treating them but the treatment caused more harm then good to say the least... I didn't have the money at the time to take them to the vet (which can be pricey) and they just passed away...

  • Sorry About your 2 anoles that died.

  • It is quite alright. It happens. The next time I use the cage they were in though I am going to clean it thoroughly to sterilize it. Or if I see an anole exhibiting signs of illness or not seeming right I am going to just separate them completely. Louie had stunted growth, was lethargic, and it was best if I left him ALONE until he died but try to water him and toss in crickets, then clean the cage once he was done and put Daisy in there. I made the mistake of putting Daisy in there with him...

  • i got my female anole yesterday her name is alex i hold her a lot once wile holding her she bite me lol i didnt hurt it tickled she is in a small cage now but i do have a 15 gallon tank but no wood chips at pet store so its in small tank with lil vine + 2 sticks she likes it shell be in small tank 4bout a week poor alex=[

  • Was that bought as a "reptile tank"? Because it cannot be used as a fish tank if it was because the reptile tank glass is thinner and weaker than fish tank glass

  • No, it is a 30 gallon x-tall FISH TANK. So YES, it CAN be used for fish. I bought it at a reptile, fish, and small animal pet store.

  • how big do they get and is it easy to take care of them

  • do you have a studdering problem

  • No, I just didn't know the proper way to pronounce basking light, so I repeated it since I was just speaking from the top of my head. It resulted in a stutter-like sound since I talk fast and trying to say things all at once. But no, I don't have a stuttering problem. Please don't ask things like that. That is rather rude IMHO.

  • I have two males they're good together (Just so you know its me the dude with the two anoles you helped me with the sex of one I just got a new account

  • Umm, no you can NOT house two males together!! It is possible one is younger/and adolescent, yet once he reaches full maturity they will surely fight for territory. PLEASE SEPARATE THEM IMMEDIATELY. I cannot stress this enough. I have owned anoles for 10 years, and have witnessed it myself after making the same dumb mistakes. So please... don't do this to your anoles...

  • I Dont Have another cage and my family cant afford it......................but if it gets bad I'll seperate them

  • Umm... then your best bet is to get rid of one of your males and get a female or just own the one male. Trust me, it ain't a pretty sight. I will send you some links to adult male green anoles fighting. Some of the footage is in captivity and others in the wild.

    ~DragonTU84~

  • thanks I know what your trying to say but ill get rid of one of them and replace it when it dies

  • my anoles are always brown..they only turn green when they sleep..and when they sleep..they cling on to the screen lid and sleep upside down...is that normal..1 male n 1 female

  • Usually, Green Anole males have a much bigger dewlap, and are either stripeless or have a small brown one if they do have a stripe. The girls usually have a striking white stripe, and in a sort of different shape, by their privates, for eggs, while guys are generally pretty narrow there.

  • the males have wrinkles under their chin. because thay puff out sometimes for the females
