Would have been great to attend this concert they had. They produced some good tunes this night. Great Band - The rest of the band seems to be down to earth and good peeps. Keep up the good work. Still had a blast with all the So. Califiornia bands that played back in the early 80's. Best time of my life.
I remember watching this concert in TV from Rockpalast, someone said 1981, so that's right I guess.. Wonder if theres other stuff with Undertones from that concert.
@ajp55a agree so absolutely. but wasn't there always something a little wrong with there being a punk elite in the first place? Jeez....if ever there was music where they should have to check elitism at the door...
i have had taped this fully concert on casette tape .. and has lent it our for many years ago.. but this was a high point in life of undertones. i have all records .. and nearly all singles + eps too.. :-)
That was recorded at the 9th "Rockpalast" Festival, shown live on West-German TV (WDR) back in 1981...a great concert, I remember watching it on TV, aah..
Brings back fond memories of seeing these 1982or 1983 at Durham University, walking up to the gig Fergal was just coming out of the pub & give us directions, I presume the rest of the band were still in there, happy days
Think the best version is the single. The band aren't loud enough in this vid.And heimdall is right - Positive Touch is their best album. The songs, the guitars, the arrangements are all wonderful and strange - as if Television were a pop group and not a rock band. There is nothing else like it.
Superb song (the first verse especially always gets me :)). Prefer the LP version to this one tbh -- Fergal's over-emoting here, which messes up the subtlety of the sentiment a bit. Its the restrained way he sings on the studio version that makes it the affecting recording it is. Still great to see, though. Thanks!
Many, many thanks for this video. Have searched for ages for anything from Positive Touch, a fantastic album. Julie Ocean... John O'Neils finest I think.
Does anybody know where I can get this concert on DVD? (I'm in the audience)

Saw them a few years ago at a Cleveland, Ohio gig- outstanding. New vocalist sounded great. Hope they come back to the States sometime soon.

The punk elite laughed at the the undertones, when in reality they had more talent in their little fingers than most of them put together.

That's always been the fatal, doubled edge sword the "punk scene" has whipped around their heads like Conan the Barbarian.
Everyone is welcome, so long as you agree with everyone else.

A voice like that is truly a gift from God. Glad Feargal decided to share it with all of us.

To me the Undertones were a one album band. Nothing else they did compares to Positive Touch for weirdness, inventiveness and quality.
