Hey guys this might be the wrong place to ask BUT. Im looking for a guitar that's really good for playing mastodon for example. I want it to sound good with those slow appegios etc. Any recommendations? Maybe pickups etc.

@neunmad If you want a Mastodon tone, you've got to go for a Les Paul-style guitar I think.

Simply because, the pickups aren't hot enough to be really SHARP in the tone, but sound fat when distorted. I would say try out a Gibson or a PRS, if you have the money.

But play around with guitars at your local music store, and find one that sounds lazy and big, like an elephant; THAT'S the Mastodon tone.

there's a way to hold it so that its easy to strum fast, u have the pick in between your thumb and index finger so that only like half of the pick is sticking out, dont strum with your wrist, keep it stationary but instead strum from your forearm

For all the people wanting tabs, I'm sorry, but the reason I play by ear, and everyone else should as well, especially with all of these vids that SHOW how to play the songs, is that it makes you a much better musician then having to rely on tabs. You have to train your ears just like you do your fingers, but in the end you will know your instrument to a much greater extent, and also be useful in a studio setting. I have learned how to play several songs from these vids, dont look for specifics
