  • the guy who narrates the original dukes of hazard flipped buddy holly for that plane ride, when he lost he said "i hope your plane crashes" (in a joking manor)

  • I read Roger Peterson's mom blamed that crash on Buddy Holly. She said if Buddy Holly wouldn't have gotten that plane for the boys, her son would still be alive.

  • was that the body of Buddy Holly seen at 01:15?

  • I am a fan of Buddy holly's music and it is a tragedy that Mr. Holly and J.P Richardson and Ritchie Valens along with the pilot died so young such a tragedy the onlt comfort is that death must have been very quick. the Pilot Roger Peterson should never have flown that plane with a winter storm approaching.

  • Can someone make one of these but a caption box where the bodies are? I can't see them. :\

  • @pikmin1318 At 1:48 you can see Buddy Holly's body. It is not very clear but he was wearing a white coat. Valens was wearing a dark colored jacket and his body was close to the airplane and to Holly.

  • @Burco1 Correction, the close up on Holly's body is at 54 seconds.

  • WOW this sounds like alot of the folk songs, that came later in the 60's. Definitely was ahead in music.

  • The plane was a Cessna 310 when I took off in IMC that day. I've flown both the Cherokee 140 & the 172 - both great planes. Hopefully you can pursue your private ticket, it's alot of fun. BTW, flight hours don't translate into pilot proficiency. This is why 20,000 hour pilots crash airplanes. I've flown with 500 hour pilots whose flying ability is much better. Some big-time pilots with lots of hours think they know it all and are dangerous. Mooneys, barons and 310's are a delight to fly.

  • I FUCKING CRIED MAN!

  • No reason for this to happen. Even a novice student pilot can safely fly this type of plane with a failed or reverse-sensing gyro. I've done it myself and if you're paying attention it's not a big deal. Something must have happened inside the plane -- loud noise, loose objects, or other unexpected distraction. A quick glance at the altimeter, VSI, or airspeed rpm/manifold pressure gauges and everything's okay. What a tragedy, Buddy was so gifted and talented. His music lives forever !!

  • @65rock4ever I agree; there's no way you can read about this accident without thinking "what a lousy piece of flying." I've read that the Bonanza could have unpredictable handling if loaded near or over its aft CG limit. With 3 passengers and their luggage, plus the fact that the heaviest passenger was in one of the rear seats, could the pilot have been dealing with an ill-handling aircraft? I think he was distracted as well as lacking the ability to fly in IMC. Anyway, Buddy's music rocks!

  • @galoon All good points you mentioned. The plane had to be loaded at the rear most CG limit of the envelope for sure. A momentary distraction can also have serious consequences. One time while taking off in IMC one of my rear passengers popped open a soda can and the loud noise startled me. If I hadn't been focused on the panel things could have gotten real bad in a hurry. Considering the circumstances surrounding the Buddy Holly plane, it wouldn't have taken much to cause this.

  • @65rock4ever Very interesting--It never occurred to me that a brief distraction such as a pop from a soda can could cause a major problem. I'm not a licensed pilot myself; I've had some time at the controls of a Piper Cherokee 140 and a Cessna 172 with instructors and other pilots--I've been an aviation buff since I was a kid. What type of plane were you flying that day in IMC? I understand that the high-performance jobs like Mooneys are trickier to fly than the airborne "SUV"s I've been in.

  • its ok if god says it the day then its the day every one dies...:(

  • The day the music died...

  • My eleven year old daughter and I paid our respects to Buddy by leaving a Shure SM58 microphone at the crash site on the memorial sculpture two weeks ago.

Of ALL of the wonderful Holly songs I must confess that "Learning The Game" is my favorite of them all. RIP Buddy. You will never be forgotten.

  • Everytime I watch this, I just cry. Imagine if he was still alive today. Good lord if he was... everything would be so much more different. Both Holly and Valens.

  • the pilot was a mere 21 years old. probably not enough experience to guide the little beechcraft bonanza through weather that inclement.

  • @1skullduggery He was indeed inexperienced, especially in instrument flying, but age doesn't really have anything to do with it. The best pilot I've ever flown with is a 23-year-old flight instructor with over 5,000 hours. Roger Peterson, the pilot in this accident, had about 720 hours by comparison. A more experienced flyer may have decided not to go that night.

  • @galoon interesting perspective....thanks.

  • This song along with the plane crash photos and footage makes this very somber.

  • The pilot was 21 years old...he took off at night, with snow falling, in high winds, never received the weather reports, failed his instrument check flight, and was unfamiliar with the planes instruments. Check out the official Civil Aeronautics Board Aircraft Accident Report. Buddy Holly's real name was Charles Hardin.

  • Supposedly the pilot had worked a long 17 hour shift that day, and still agreed to fly them.... I think it was so he could brag to his friends that he flew the 3 rock stars. Terrible decision. He could have said no, and told his friends he saved all 4 of their lives, then gone on to become a great pilot. But no, he did something foolish, and now they're all gone, and no one remembers the pilots name.

  • They were all ejected from the plane... It crashed going 170mph, they all died instantly on impact. It was a blizzard they flew into, supposedly. The bus they had been on was miserable and the heater was broken, so Holly hired a charter. I think Valens won a coin toss for his seat, a coin toss anyone would prefer losing.

    Valens - 17 years old

    Holly - 22 years old

    Bopper - 28 years old

    RIP, all too young!

  • @staphinfection the pilot: 21 years old

  • Did anyone hear that they found Buddy Holly's glasses tangled in a fence and a police officer stole them and then his son gave them to a museum after the asshole cop die.... it happened like 2 years ago

  • @Mellybeth123 I did hear a story that Holly's glasses were found but never knew what happened to them.

  • @crazyromanian1 yeah they found out a cop that is now dead took them from the crash site... they were wrapped in a fence... after the cop died he gave them to his son and the son donated them to a museum... it happened when i was a sophomore in HS... so it was like three or four years ago...

  • I really think the decent thing to do with them would have been to return them to his wife. Hope it was the Rock Hall of Fame that received them.

  • @Mellybeth123 No someone found them and send it to them in a manilla envelope

  • @Mellybeth123 - That's NOT what happened to his glasses.

There's a YouTube video that explains the story of his glasses.

    watch?v=7NuvWdzAWT4

In 1980, an Iowa sheriff was looking through some old records, & found the glasses in an envelope with the name "Charles Hardin Holley" (Buddy's real name) written on it. He gave them to Buddy's widow. In 1996, she sold them to a Lubbock promotion agency for $80,000, & they donated them to The Buddy Holly Center. That's where they are today.

  • Patsy cline, john denver, lynyrd skynyrd, otis redding, stevie ray vaughan, randy rhodes, aaliyah, joe petty, jim croce, jim reeves, and of course buddy holly, ritchie valens, and j.p richardson and im sure many more died in plane crashes.Makes me wonder if musicians are cursed when it comes to air travel.

  • @AntonChigurh1, yes, that is So sad. And, yes, it does make you wonder about them being cursed when it comes to air travel. Also, Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash. Course, he was mainly in the singer/actor category, but he still was instrumental. RIP

  • The pilot should of known his planes limitations, and probably did. Obviously, he ignored them.

  • @mrstevehartman I hear he was only 21 years old, and maybe not a whole hell of a lot of flying time.

  • @0217ldp I was a student pilot at one time. One thing my instructor drilled into my head was... never attempt flying in minimum weather conditions. This pilot, reguardless of age, broke that rule big time. Im sure that snow and ice on the wings plus terrible visability brought them down. WELL, pride comes before a fall.....

  • @mrstevehartman I wonder if the lure of flying with Buddy Holly may have done him in. Who in their right mind wouldn't jump at the chance

  • @0217ldp You mean the pilot was trying to impress and maybe befriend Buddy ? Perhaps....

  • What a loss that's still chilling to this day. Makes me ill. It was indeed a sad day in music history; yet Buddy Holly & The Crickets were thankfully beloved by Paul McCartney (Beatles) & so many others who carried on. Holly & the Crickets were an inspiration to so many would-be rockers. They could've faded into obscurity had he lived; instead they achieved instant, memorialized fame w/ Valens & the Big Bopper - for better/worse. Makes you wonder if things do happen the way they are meant to.

  • raises the hair on the back of one's neck... I don't think it's morbid curiousity at all to ask if the two bodies in "front" of the wreckage are Buddy (light colored coat) and Richie? Bopper is the easist to recognize as a corpse o the other side of the fence. Holly and Valens are quite difficult to recognize. pretty mangled up. Oh well. They supposedly "felt nthing" so that's merciful anyways...

  • Musicians need to stay off of small things that fly.

  • @surfstomp You sir have just made my day.

  • @surfstomp

Lots of musicians have died in plane crashes---Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, John Denver...

  • Pretty striking to see the bodies. I never noticed them in the pictures before someone pointed it out to me. So unrecognizable at first you think its just bits of the plane. Its strange, you listen to these guys' music and see footage of them performing, they're so young and energetic and alive. You know that they died a long time ago but you can kind of forget that. These pictures are a very gruesome reminder that hits home the tragedy of how it all ended.

  • @MushroomKingdom919 i didnt see the bodies...

  • Chilling.

  • @8skater2 thank you for info very tragic

  • Does anybody know if the bodies got smashed because i know big bopper fell out but i dont know about ritchies or buddy

  • @OsiRisKinGz21 Umm Ritchie lost half his head. I heard this in an interview on tv with the guy that did the autopsy. I was shocked. RIP

  • @OsiRisKinGz21 your sick why would that matter? How gross!!!!

  • @OsiRisKinGz21 - The autopsy report is available on the internet. It describes their injuries, which were very gruesome. Try to Google it, it's probably still available. I do remember that every bone in the Big Bopper's body was broken :(

  • Why does everyone spell Buddy's name wrong? on his grave marker it's spelled Holley.

  • @gooniegoogoo62 - Buddy's last name was changed to "Holly" for professional purposes. Most people associated that spelling with the word. However, as can be seen in the video, the correct spelling of his last name is on his gravestone.

  • @Cissy2cute Thanks for clearing that up for me, I wasn't aware of this. Have a nice day.

  • hey you forgot roger peterson he was the plane operator that died with them

  • i post it as " nice " it isn't nice but a form of respect...rip...

  • I went there today, so sad I saw some bits of glass but idk if its from the plane. I also went to the surf ballroom. rip buddy ritchie and j.p

  • @gingerbobawsomepants if that was from the plane thats probably worth some much money if you picked it up

  • I wonder why after taking off with a full tank of fuel that this plane didn't burst into flames ????????

  • So sad...that palne was crumpled like a beer can..

  • Comment removed

  • At 0:28 two men are attempting to remove the pilots body from the twisted wreckage....So sad.

  • "when you love her and she doesnt love you your only learning the game" i can testify to that God bless.

  • John Lennon is a tag. Lol awesome

  • The body of Charles H. Holley was clothed in an outer jacket of yellow leather-like material in which four seams in the back were split almost full length. The skull was split medially in the forehead and this extended into the vertex region. Approximately half the brain tissue was absent. There was bleeding from both ears, and the face showed multiple lacerations. The consistency of the chest was soft due to extensive crushing injury to the bony structure.[...] Both thighs and legs showed mult

  • i mean 0:50!

  • was that a head at 0:53?

    if so who's?????

  • @sockhead579: That was Buddy's body at 0:53, as he was wearing a light tan/beige overcoat. If you REALLY want to know the extent of all their injuries, you can find the death certificates online. But it just underscores the horrific tragedy of this accident.

  • @fairfield7000 where do you see a body? i aint seeing it

  • @fairfield7000 how? it looks nothing like buddy. it looks like a deformed hand LOL. anyways can you please make a video like describing his body it would be alot helpful

  • Long live Buddy...........

  • man i woke up from a dream i had me and holly was in the plane together and he died but i survied=( it was a total nightmare

  • @jb195935 i had a dream that i was driving (i dont understand why i'm driving if i'm 10 yrs old and in 1959) and i saw a plane crash from a far distance then i get out of the car and i see buddy's body i couldnt get back to sleep

  • 0;54 its Ritchie ;,( its so sad im crying

  • @MsGilette i cant see it?

  • Buddy Recorded This at his home

  • 54 sec who is laying there?

  • @ludwigking I think that is Buddy Holly, from what I read about the crash, he was wearing a tan overcoat the night of the crash. Richie Valens was laying a few feet from him and the Big Bopper was thrown several yards away past the fence where the plane came to rest.

  • They got the autopsy report of these guys on the internet. It's as gruesome as you can imagine, like they were thrown into wood chipper head first.. The report for Ritchie said he had a braclet on him that said "Donna" and his head was so destroyed there were no recognizable features. Same with Holly, his head was completely split open. I blame Norman Petty completely for Hollys death. Read the story of how he treated Buddy, to call Petty a scumbag is putting it mildly. He also killed Buddys kid

  • @JamesTKirkCobain The blame lies with the pilot, who was not rated to fly in instrument weather conditions. Even had he been rated, the weather conditions on that day should had led him to cancel the flight. Regardless of what Norman Petty did, had a qualified pilot been on board or they had just stayed on the bus none of this would have happened.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain

Oh please. The story about Norman Petty freezing Buddy's assets FORCING him to go back on tour is absolute bullshit. Buddy had a new single to promote and the way that you promoted in that day and age was to tour like a motherfucker. Charles Holley and Norman Petty could probably name someone on every one of their twenty digits that they liked better than each other but they had a lucrative and civil working relationship. Don't smear a man's name because you're gullible.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain

The litigation between Charles Holley and Norman Petty at the time of Buddy's death was bog standard royalty litigation that ALWAYS goes through the courts when an artist and management part ways. The limitiations put on Buddy's funds were put there by his record company for outstanding studio fees and Norman Petty was raising funds at Buddy's request to help get the limitiation lifted. Buddy had two large royalty payouts on the 6 months before his demise so he wasn't broke.

  • Is that the pilot at 1.10?

  • @RockDesk where do you see the pilot in the wreck? i looked but maybe I was looking at the wrong thing??

  • @Anglynn74 See I'm not actually sure if I just looked at it too long and imagined it. What I think I see is a face, when the camera zooms in closer to the plane, it looks like a face at the bottom kinda middle right of the screen, in the middle of the wreckage and it scans down so the face goes off camera left, close to the top. But as I said, I could have been looking at it and just imagined it so now it's all i can see

  • richies arm was way over by the car "

  • Buddy Holly, well it looks like we will always remember you. 52 years ago tonight. RIP.

  • @inshreds66 well 3 people didnt learn the game LoL

  • RIP to my favourite singer Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper who died 52 years ago tonight. I'm not sure when the plane actually crashed but it took off at 12:55 in the morning and descended into a corn field a few minutes later. It must have been horrible, but there was nothing they could do. RIP Rodger Peterson who was the pilot responsible for the crash. Rave On!

  • big boppers body is at 0:21 across the fence

  • Indeed his gravestone was titled with his last name spelled Holley, people post his last name spelled holly because everyone knows it as that. Look at all his records. Are they spelled Holley? no there not. So if you want to name call think before you speak. Obviously Buddy had no problem with the spelling of his name or he would of corrected himself. And one to talk about correct spelling. One, failerds is not a word..and two titeled is spelled TITLED!

  • @brittybritt55 His headstone is tilted because it's a heavy piece of limestone sitting on soft earth. It's called "settling". It's caused by a little thing called "gravity"! It happens to houses too, you know. As for his name, Buddy Holly was his stage name. His given name, Charles Hardin Holley, is what should be on the tombstone if he's buried in the family plot.

  • @brittybritt55 Gee, thanks for not being an arrogant little prick.

  • i kinda cried when i saw there bodies

  • its disturbing at 1:12 you can see one of them in the twisted plane.

  • @kdjfnvjvd that was the pilot he was the only one not rejected from plane

  • hahah you failerds

everybody is posting vids with "Buddy Holly"

While his gravestone was titeled with "Buddy Holley"

    Fail to you all:)

    Beside, poor man.

  • Poor guys!

    All I have to say.

  • A beautiful song. I would not criticize anyone for posting this gruesome footage to go along with it. I will just say, try to top the song. Otherwise, leave Buddy alone.

  • Very sad.

  • I'll be a son of a bish... Was that Gloria Allred in the picture??? That ambulance chasing mutha Fu........

  • always love Buddy's music

  • The white body at 0:52 is Buddy. The black mass you see (10-15ft away) is Valens. JP is the body that is thrown over the fence and to the left of N3794N. Roger Peterson (Pilot) was not ejected,

  • whats to say? what a sad day-- RIP Buddy and friends

  • i would like to go back, 5 minuites before take off and show ritchie/jp/buddy the newspapers of the following day,if only!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • did they show any bodys in this video?

    Someone please reply back thanks!

  • @WickedDrummer44 Did you ever find out? I can't tell if I'm loking at bits of the plane, luggage or one of the passengers? I'd like to think they took the bodies away before photo & film were taken, but maybe they kept them in situ for evidence.

  • @cqsteve1 0:52 looks like a body to me... but I don't know for sure, what do you think???

  • @cqsteve1

the bodies are indeed in the still images but it looks like in the movie footage they have already been removed. the pilot remained in the wreckage till after the CAB and FAA were done with their part of the investigation and they didnt arrive till the evening. several hours later the Deputy Sheriffs "extricated" Peterson from the wreckage with "metal cutting tools". the footage was probably shot the next day.

  • @JCBerndt61 Hey thanks for that, much appreciated.

  • wats this song o man buddy just blew my mind

  • @daddyseek67 'Learning the game'

  • @acoustic8guitarist The "Apartment Tapes"?

  • wonderfull footage! the best yet on you tube.

  • Chilling.

  • Thank you for this high quality post - I still am moved by this footage and that honest, direct Holly song. What a needless and neglifent accident. A solemn reminder that we should've valued artistry - these men were not valued. They were treated poorly, paid poorly, and told they were going to the Devil for the music they played. And they died like dogs, wanting to get a warm, good night's sleep. Could've easily turned out a better way, but it didn't. And so, humanity lost.

  • @ocduff Thank you so much for this comment. I never read such a good comment, such true words.

  • @ocduff Can you tell me what the hell the camera zooms in on

  • that is s sad r.i.p buddy holly and richie vallins and the big bopper R.I.P

  • that is my secound cousin
