  • I don't know if this is because I am a teenager or if it is because I've never been an adult but I would say that adults have more time to read. Teenagers go to school and in school we get homework which, obviously, has to be done at home. I know that some jobs require you to work at home, but still. I have homework and I'm able to read. So in the words of John Green "whatever! Read!"

  • I swear one of these days one of John's books will be about conjoined twins. I think that would be fascinating actually.

  • When a living author dies, do you move thier books to the dead author section? Is there some kind od solem ritual involved or something?

  • I can't wait until I have a home library to catalogue.

  • Today was the best day. My brother got sick. XD

  • That was beautiful.

  • Where can I get miniature chairs?

  • any one else see the magic 8 ball on the top of the book shelf?!?!

  • blankets was an amazing book!

  • Wow I never knew now extensive your library was John! I am now beyond jealous and I want to come live in your house for a year JUST for the books. (then more time because well, your John). But I am being completely serious when I say that your home Library is biggest then our towns book store

  • "Then you've got Islam and Christianity, separated by the wicker basket that keeps them from fighting with each other"

  • "books which are either by or about someone in our family" who else in the Green family writes books? and who else in the green family was famous enough to have books written about them before brotherhood 2.0?

  • @SomeoneBeginingWithI maybe the whole 'secret siblings' thing? because Maureen Johnson is one of their secret sisters and she had books published at that time.

  • just saw a book in your library called "Stiff"

    ... in your pants...

  • I want John's libraryyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

  • I saw a book called Heat......in your pants.

  • I read:

    Today, Today

    was not The Bbest

    day, I and my

    brother got sick

    Moms page

  • @dannerzme That's what i see too. So think that John duped us to get a laugh, which it did.

  • @Thelizzardcat Haha, oh that John.

  • I want your library D: and those miniature chairs.

  • It's the origin of 'Today was a good day, my brother got sick'

oh what a diary entry :)

  • It's also my mom's birthday!!

  • i'm sorry but how can you not like almanacs?

  • I wish I had a home library like that, and so detailed.

  • @steinm02 Have you read Shakespeare?

  • @themaebee Why yes I have. I have my BA in Theater, and have studied his work quite extensively. Shakespeare was primarily a playwright and unless the book only contains his 4 narrative poems, and/or is "Sonnets" then it is categorized incorrectly. If John would have been more accurate in his description of what works of Shakespeare he had categorized with poetry, then this would not be an issue. :-)

  • Shakespeare is a playwright not a poet.. Your library is not categorized correctly. Sorry. :(

  • @steinm02 He wrote poems, too.

  • @steinm02 Shakespeare is a poet too...

  • @Rittty12 No his isn't. He WAS a poet, and now his remains reside in Holy Trinity Church. What he IS now is really more of an existential question than a book classification question. ;-)

  • I think it's about time that John writes a novel about conjoined twins.

  • My aim in life now is to own a library as awesome as that! But most of my childhood books my mum made me throw out or give to my sister and cousins :(

  • HOORAY FOR BOOKS! i really wish i had a home library like that... of course i can't yet, 'cuz all the books that my family own are in the US and i'm not. plus, we don't have enough bookshelves...

  • YES!!! Book shelves filled with books, some of my favorite things :)

  • he classed Harry potter and the half blood prince as a childrens book :/

  • yay

  • You have Stiff! :D

    I love that book!

  • HOW does John even organise his library THAT WELL. I would never have the patience and energy to do so...

  • I want that home library

  • @TheHyperTheory world war 3.

  • My goal, to have an awesome library like John's

  • I whish I kept a diary when I was that age... :D

  • Why am i just finding out now about the atomic bomb in my pants?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • my home library consists of all fiction books and an encyclopedia that's are upstairs even though two are on my night stand.

  • for the wicker basket that divides the muslim books and the christian books, I'd like to see what would happen if he were to remove the basket.

  • My birthday! :'D

  • Who doesn't like almanacs????

  • I approve and was incredibly excited to see Blankets on your shelf! Go get Craig's new book, Habibi when it comes out this September.

    and the conjoined twins!

  • So, John, what happens when one of those living authors dies? Do you move them to the section of books by dead authors?

  • I hope i can have a library this awesome one day.

    in your pants.

  • hey John; how would you catalouge a record collection?

  • AH 1984!

  • Wait! If you look closely at the diary entry, it really says "Today was NOT the best day. I AND my brother got sick." John is misquoting himself!!!

  • If my eyes do not deceive me, I have seen in this and other videos that John owns the book White Teeth by Zadie Smith, and has yet to add "in my pants" to its title. This is a problem for me,

Other good titles: Things Fall Apart (in my pants) and And Then There Were None (in my pants),

    I love nerdfighting.

  • My library is only 3% non-fiction. lol

  • LOL "I like almanacs."

"When do you think adult read week is?" HA

I love John Green! I hope I have a home library like this someday!

  • Today was the best day...my brother got sick.

  • I want that library :U

  • anybody know why john is so obsessed with conjoined twins??

  • Miniature chairs? Awesome.

  • "over there you got some judaism..." hahah you're hilarious

  • I have almost as much of a braingasm over John's library as I do over Belle's library from Beauty and the Beast.

  • 3:26

    ".nl"

    Go Dutch Nerdfighters!

  • My goal in life has always been to have the library that the Beast gives to Belle, but I don't know, yours comes pretty close.

  • ...He has Norton Anthology. I HATE Norton Anthology. That's what happens when you have to read it for school.

  • 3:09 I seriously laughed so hard that I started crying. I am not kidding. Epic win.

  • I knew that other tour was too short.

  • So where can I get a card?

  • Gods I wish I had a library like that!

  • There still were the cards on the flood, from the feud XD

  • The random goth book thing had me roflmao. I envy your home library. -.-

  • Twilight forgot to be awesome.....

  • @HarryPotterTrio91 Twilight never was awesome.

  • @HarryPotterTrio91 twilight is and/or was NEVER awesome

  • @HarryPotterTrio91 forgot? or just wasn't capable?

  • @HarryPotterTrio91 the first wasn't bad

  • vlogbrothers

  • I love the image of the Green Brothers Youngin' edition and John writing in his diary. That was just little boydom at its utmost perfection. Thank you for sharing John.

  • So when an author dies, the first thing you do is go move your books by them?

  • John, you seem really interested in conjoined twins. Now can you tell me what happens to one if the other dies? (of course, only if they don't share any organs) I'd really like to know...

  • You have two copies of 'Gulag' in different sections?

  • gåden om alaska

  • On the topic of books... we had a school book fair and while my mom said I couldn't buy any books....I was called a nerd all day because I bought "The Book of Totally Useless Information" It's a Nerd Fighter book ;)

  • First I thought I liked this video for the extremely nerdy "I like almanacs" quote, then a little later I saw the tiny chair collection and thought that I liked this video for that. But then came, "Today was the best day; my brother got sick"! That was absolutely hilarious!

  • More books than there are conjoined twin sets, or more books than there are conjoined twins separately? (As a firm "twinist," my roommate wanted to ask.)

  • @argella In a later video he says he has more books than conjoined twins if you count them separately He also added, "...and you should!"

  • Wait.... Food memoirs!? Wtf? O.o xD

  • "Why you watching CSI Miami when you could be reading CSI Miami the novelization?!" I lold so hard.

  • I want to borrow one of your books about conjoined twins.

  • the lack of puff in this video makes me sad

  • 2:45 heat in my pants

  • . . . ok, so John takes the time to comment on "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" in your pants, but completely fails to point out "Stiff" in your pants? While a little more obvious, it is a great example nonetheless. Just sayin'

  • Hey, a funny thing to do.....like you "in your pants." Is everytime you get a quote or a fortune cookie.... add "in bed" at the end. So, next time you read a fortune cookie... add "in bed" at the end.

  • I'm so jealous of your home library... I want one as awesome as that.

  • I freaking love this video. I'm a little jealous of how many books he has, but when i have a house of my own, i hope i can have that awesome of a library. So. MAny. Books. <3

  • I wonder how much money he spent collecting all those books?

  • Your library makes me astronomically happy.

  • I laughed at the diary entry.

  • i love the miniature chairs

  • GIMME ALL YOUR BOOKS AND ONE FULL YEAR TO READ THEM

you'll see me at the end of the room in a small corner with take-out scattered around me, in a bathroom with all your books that you will give.... one day cause i wanna read all of them, piled across the room and me wide awake (haven't slept the whole time) reading the last one. yep cause books are fricking awsome, and re-reading that little paragraph made me sound creepy........ I'M NOT A CREEPER.... i just love books a little too much.

  • Wow, I am JEALOUS of your library! Teen nerdfighters, FTW!

  • i have that many books and growing.

  • ....atomic bomb in your pants...WIN!

  • Your home library manages to make me happy, yet sad at the same.

    Happy as books a lovely.

Sad as it makes me feel inferior.

But I'm only 17, so I think that having achieved one and a half bookcases full at this age is quite reasonable.

    ^_^

  • Holy crap, that's a lot of books

  • Today was the best day.

    My brother got sick. XD

  • my friend and i had to read "half life" by shelley jackson for a contemporary literature class. therefore, we understand the conjoined twin thing. kudos on your great library and clever video!

  • I have never been so jealous of anything ever. My home library is pitifully unorganized and about to colaspe under its own weigth.

  • I meant fill

  • I wish I had enough books to feel a bookshelf

  • ugh, i miss that intro. :)

  • knah sohw

  • I love your voice when you're being a "busy adult"

  • I think Mein Kampf forgot to be awesome for a little bit there.

  • What does it say about my sense of humor if I tell you that so far the only "in my pants" title I've laughed out loud over is "The Making of the Atomic Bomb in My Pants"? I am ashamed. :P

  • I literally stunk myself out of my cubicle when you said "the making of the atomic bomb in your pants" IRONY?

  • blankets! that is a good graphic novel :)

  • That library pwns indeed!

    Also....

"Today was the best day. My brother got sick." I so lol-ed

  • I also have to say that miniature chairs make EVERYTHING better.

  • Guh, I have to say reading all those books about religion would be so tedious.

Its kind of creepy to think that every time an author dies John goes through the ceremony of moving them from the self of life to the shelf of death.

I think nerdfighters need to get some donations going towards his science, humor, and goth scene sections. Only then will his mission be complete.

  • @Kimbahley Ha! The great dead-author ceremony.

(And if you don't want to read those religion books, I'll read them for you!)

    DFTBA

  • i hope someday to acquire as many books.

  • I WANT your library so badly.

    It is totally awesome :)

And, hahaha, the diary entry. My brother showed me his diary once and every single one of his entries was about how today was the 'best'...I love being a kid. Everything seems so much more optimistic.

  • I just looked over and realized that I'm watching this while an abundance of Katherines is sitting next to me. :D

Is it nerdfighterlike to be watching all of your videos from the very beginning while also reading your books in order? I think it is.

  • My goal in life is to have a library this awesome. It occurs to me how insanely expensive it has to be to buy that many books...even used...even over a long period of time...

  • I feel less alone in my obsession of conjoined twins now, John. Thank you =]

  • thta's sooo impressive lol

  • *jaw drops slowly as you show off your amazingly impressive home library* Holy Christ wagons... that is AWESOME!

  • I see you have Blankets, by Craig Thompson. God I love this graphic novel.

  • ah... STIFF by Mary Roach...what a great read.

  • Oh haha. I have an aunt named Mary Roach so when I saw your comment I was like "...........?"

  • i am still covetous of your library. also i would just like you to know that i got really excited when you mentioned your norton anthology of poetry. i have the norton anthology of western music. :] (it's required for my music history classes, but still...)

    hoo! hah! MUSICNERDFIGHTERS! :D

  • I LOVE YOUR LIBRARY!

    I like almanacs.

    :D

  • OH MY GOD .. YOUR LIBRARY REALLY IS AMAZING .... lol i already have plans for the amazing library im gonna have in my household haha .. ever since i was 10 i have been constructing the perfect library.

  • I LIKE ALMANACZ TOO!

  • i really need to organize my library . i love the wicker basket between Islam and Christianity "So they don't fight"

  • damn! I want your library

  • Reference books are often my favorites. For Christmas a few years ago I got "The New York Times Guide to Essential Knowledge: A Desk Reference for the Curious Mind".

    NERDFIGHTERS!

  • An observation: I observe that the "religion" section of John Green's home library contains a wicker basket.

Another observation: I further observe that puns based on double meanings are pretty jokes.

A proposal: Based on the above observations, I propose that John Green should purchase some books on the subject of Wicca, and place them in the aforementioned wicker basket, thus enabling him to refer to it as the Wicca basket.

  • WIN.

  • HAHA! Today was the best day. My brother got sick. Thus ends the entry. Possibly one of the funniest things said on Brotherhood 2.0 so far.

  • 'here are books about islam and christianity... seperated by a wicker basket to stop them from fighting' OMG!!!! LOL!! i loled alot there!

  • Blankets! That graphic novel is awesome.

I can only hope to have a library as big as yours some day, John.

  • I love almanacs!

I actually gave one to my brother last Christmas, partly because I thought he'd find it genuinely interesting (he did) but mostly because he never gives me my books back because they make his bookshelves "look smart." I figure an almanac is worth at least 3 of my books back.

  • I spotted the book Pretties by Scott Westnfeild!!! yi love that book

  • ahhh, i love picking vintage vlogbrothers videos at random and laughing out loud at each one. john and hank never forget to be awesome =]

  • Oh my God, a couple days ago, I went with my nerdfighter friends to the near by library, and what we did was we went through every isle and looked at book titles and added "In Your Pants" to most of them, and we were freaking dying of laughter--it was so funny!

  • Hm....

I will warn people now that I have started maniacally plotting a way to hi-jack John Green's library. Mwahaha. Don't want his cash or anything, just the books. Any ideas?

    -Envy-

  • I love that you have a section devoted entirely to first-edition books about conjoined twins. It's also quite fitting that they are next to your Mark Twain section. I keep thinking of Twain's book: "Pudd'nhead Wilson and Those Extraordinary Twins" in which there is a quite funny portion at the end where the twins are conjoined! (Well, in sorts)

I just noticed that that title fits your "in your pants" trick quite well.

Pudd'nhead Wilson and Those Extraordinary Twins... In Your Pants. HA

  • Mr. John Green where did you get that shirt?

That shirt is amazing (and i agree with what you said at the beging, I definitly read more books in a week then my mother will ever in a year (not an insult, i love my mother, but it's just a fact of life.)

So yea. (goes to watch the rest of the videos. )

(thats the only thing I wanted to comment on.)

  • Vlog brothers clears up my foul mood once again, they can be sold as like 'things to watch when you are in a bad mood' and they will make lots of money and stuff

    Thanks agian Vlogbro's

  • The diary entry made me laugh. And I thought I had a lot of books...

  • God I love almanacs.

  • holy crap, i think i have about 1/100 as many books as that

  • That would be one percent

  • wow, thanks for that

  • No problem

  • Could the reason you keep 1st editions by dead people with 1st editions from your favorite authors together be...that they are all 1st editions? ...not sure why 1st editions on conjoined twins aren't over there...

  • God you ahve so many books. I do not have this many books. It makes me sad.

    :(

  • wow dude, and I thought I had a lot of books in my 4 gigantic bookcases that i have no idea how they even fit in my room together a long with a desk and my bed but oh well.

  • "...Of my favorite authors or dead people."

HA! That made me laugh! It's not Teen Read Week, but what the cupcake, Happy Teen Read Week anyway! I'm off to read!

  • OMG! I WANT TO READ YOUR LIBRARY! Have you read all those books?! :D Its Wonderful!!!!!

  • Oh my god.

Your librarything page must be EPIC. And would have taken forever to catalog.

  • how many books would you say you have...about?

  • john... there seems to be a vanishing act [taking place] in my pants and its really bothering me.... FANGIRL!!! :D

  • I am severely jealous of John's library...

  • I have more Norton Anthologies of ________ than I ever thought I'd own thanks to my college English classes. They are great, but do I really need that many abridged versions of classic literature from different genres?

  • I love my books, even ones I have read 5 times I can't bare to part with

  • One day I will have a library of my own like that... I hope. If I start adding "in your pants" to the end of my sentences, I know who to blame.

  • miniature chairs?

    Where did that come from?

  • so if an author of any of your books dies, you do a ceremony and carry it to the "dead authors" section? oh my...

  • Dictionary in my pants

    French in my pants

Pretties in my pants (Saw Scott Westerfeld's book, Pretties, in the Young Adult Literature section! Fangirling again!)

    Cut Time in my pants

    Half Life in my pants

  • today was the best day, my brother got sick. thus ends the entry!

    hehe...

some art books, some miniature chairs, some more art books, some more miniature chairs...

  • Extremely jealous.

  • WHooo!!!! REading

  • I love you're library!!!! Although, I have to admit that conjoined twins is sort of a scary topic for me because I am a twin. I love my sister but I would NOT want to be with her all of the time! Anyway, GO READING!!!!!

  • Puntuation fail! Not you're but your.
