  • gotta love the one handed driving at 3:28 : )

  • lol. It reminds me Colin McRae DiRT intro :)

  • Another factor in Monster breaking Millens time is the road has a significant amount paved while Millen only had dirt.

  • dude Millen drove on the road that was paved as well, that is how he beat Ari's time by a huge 30+ seconds, Millen's was only beaten by 1 or 2 seconds

  • No, when millen created the record in 1994, the part of the road (top 13 miles) was dirt. Penz started doing some testing on an additive to harden the surface shortly after that, in the section near glen cove. I was up there from 1995 to 2002. They didn't start paving it until the 21st century.

  • and No Millen's record no longer stands Monster broke it in 2007 by 3 seconds

  • Ok, so it is under 10 mins. now ? I didn't think it could still be unbroken because one of Monster's early runs with the twin engined thing nearly broke it if I remember correctly.

  • no, its 10min 4 sec's , millen's time was 10min 7

  • Look at the new Skyline R35, perfect example of how technology excels, without all its computers that thing would be heavy and slow as shit.

  • I don't know if you like them, but I don't have any interest in cars that weigh 1700 kg and pretend to be sports cars. No matter how impressive some may think they are, you can build for yourself ( or have built ) a car that would outperform it substantially.

  • and what cars are you referring to that weigh 1700kg ?

  • Any of these overweight humps. I think the GTR is well over that isn't it ? They would not live with a well balanced high performance car. hey are in a confused role. U can add heavy luxury Lambos to that too as far as I'm concerned. 2 tonne supercars ? Joke. I have several cars that would make a fool of many of those. I have a standard NSX and a GT40 replica. Gt40 replica weighs 960KG. I know the NSX, with fairly conservative suspension upgrade, would kill most of these over distance.

  • yes the GTR is over 1700kg but it performs incredibly well as a result of all its technology, unless you had a vehicle with race tuned suspension I doubt it would outperform it

and any other vehicle around similar weight simply would not come close. I don't know how they do it but it can outperform vehicles 300kg lighter then it.

  • Yes, No argument on the GTRs ( all of them from the start actually ) If all the "luxury" weight was removed, they would just be beyond compare. People who reject the idea that they are a supercar are simply wrong. Ferrari and Lambo guys carry on about it, but if you went on a weight reduction program and got the GTRs down to the weight of the lightweight Ferraris etc, the GTR would still be competitive. Also, the notion that many have - rear / mid engined is always better is simply wrong.

  • I've been into racing and collecting all manner of cars ( Mainly historic Australian racing cars ) for 30 years. I have had everything from F5000, formula pacific, sports sedans, group c touring cars, V8 supercars etc etc. I'd even back my old 928s Porsche against most modern things for handling over distance. Even with all of their electronic crap, they just eat their tyres if U try to drive them on their limit over any real distance. A good V8 supercar will kill them. They're NOT supercars.

  • by the way the music sux, why put any music at all its not needed !

  • Does anybody know what that song starting at 00:20 is?

  • The song is

Susy Wender - Tu Es L'Amour (French Version Of 'Runaway')

  • thank you, but i meant the good song before that, the original music with the piano in it that is played between 00:20 - 00:30.

    Anyone?

  • at points like from 3:01 to 3:07, thats over 1000m drop, flush to the cliff, with no railing. find me a modern track used today by people with balls like these guys. this is truly the original drift.

  • that is just unbelieveable, what a film

  • rally makes me hard, drifting makes me harder though

  • Yeah, rally is cool. Especially the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

  • whats the time he made?

i look everywhere and i didnt find...

  • According to Wikipedia, "The record time set was 10:47.77."

  • with modern cars they could beat ari's time but not with modern drivers ;)

  • Yea, true.

  • modern cars.. arent as fast as the old group B cars.. they have too many rules govering their engine size and power output.

old cars where a big middle finger upto health and safety. ari's time is still one of the best set at pikes peak

  • A Group B Lancia Delta S4 from 1986 did 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) on gravel in just 2.3 seconds. Not many modern car can do better than that.

  • ??? - Modern drivers don't have much trouble - monster Tajima is as old as Ari and he is way quicker. His record was 10 mins 1 sec. I don't know if he did but he expected to break into the 9 minute zone this year. I think Bobby Unser broke Ari's record the very next year in a similar Peugeot.

  • I seriously doubt Taijma himself is quicker and more talented, its the technology that enables them to break records

  • Don't think anyone suggested here that he was more talented. I was replying to the guy who said modern cars aren't as quick as group b. Today's Peak cars have nothing to do with WR cars. WRC cars wouldn't stand a chance at Pikes Peak. Monster is certainly very talented & he's driving at a much higher age that Ari. It's the old story of comparing different eras. The fact does remain that Unser bettered Ari's time in the same car. There's no bigger Ari fan around than I by the way.

  • bettered it in the same car ? umm show me where. He broke the record in a hill climb tacoma or celica, can't remember which one which had some 300+ hp more then the Pug 405

Not to mention he had competed many many more times, WRC drivers are the best in the world at what they do, simple as that. era's have nothing to do with it.

Its simply technology improvements, better downforce, more power, more refinements, computer balancing.

  • Sorry - of course Unser only won in the front engined Audi and didn't ever drive a rear engined car at P/ Peak. I also thought the 10 minute mark had been beaten but another guy assures me that this is not the case. He says that although Monster has won the event, Millen's 15 year old record still stands. That true ? Most interesting is that he says Gronholm's due to take part this year ( in 3 weeks ) in an 800hp focus. He's my favorite of modern guys so let's hope to see the first sub 10.

  • he never beat Ari's record in an Audi, it took him 5 years of development before he broke it and it was either in a Celica or Tacoma, he drove both in consecutive years, I just can't remember which 1 he broke the record in both had 900hp and far more advancements specifically for that event. Look up Millen Celica or Millen Tacoma and you will see the vehicles

  • oh and sorry Unser never broke the record after Ari, it was broken by Rod Millen

  • Ari Vatanen is finnish rally god!! No one nowdays can drive rally cars like he used to.

  • Yea, those are some impressive driving.

  • What is with the terrible music? Way to ruin a good movie.

  • There are other non music versions, you can check those out if you prefer.

  • That is what I did. Thanks :)

  • 3:40 he can't even see where he's going!! 0.0

  • Yep.

  • Yeah, it's part of rallying, but that would still suck tho.

  • That was cool but I couldn't help to think, what happen if he fell off the edge o.O

  • Thanks. The song is "Tu Es L"Amour" by Suzy Wender.
