I see a comment saying that Jimmy Barnes does the backing vocal to this song. I have to correct you, it is John Farnham. If you really listen closely and know John's voice well, you will hear it really clearly, especially on the third count (I think) of singing 'As the Days Go By'.
what an image, a reflection of days gone bye, a true australian icon, question where are these days now, Australian music has it flown out the window?or do you think this style will come back again? or just sit and reminis? proud aussie here and im from mangrove mt nsw australia cheers shaun
Great song alright...from 1989...I never knew when I first heard this song that I was only days away from getting back with my high school babe...great song!
Daryl Braithwaite,James reyne and Jimmy Barnes all made a succesful transistion from band to solo in 80,s how lucky were we back then, its a pity Austrailian music lacks the talent it had 20-25 years ago kids these days are so deprived off songs with original lyrics and brilliant vocals.
I seem to be also, ever since my brother gave me Daryl's latest release "The Lemon Tree", a kind of unplugged CD recorded in Mid 2008. Unpolished, minimal instuments, sounds like your own personal jam session. It's a different slant on the original studio recordings. Today I pulled "Edge" out of the CD cupboard and gave it a spin. Nice!
I agree with you - Edge is really really good, I got a signed copy from Daryl at one of his concerts this summer. Talking with him was great - he's really kind and fun.
Well since my last comment I've bought some other CDs with Daryl's music, and I recently saw him in concert. Had a great night out singing along with him and tapping toes. Next time he comes my way I'll go see him again.
@MeLiSiOuS9 couldnt have said it any better myself if your feeling abit flat turbo charge your batteries by especially listening to this song,100% daryl braithwaite addict and proud of it,pete christchurch new zealand you aussies rock
Daryl - you are a true legend...... you will never know how much your 20p cassette single meant to us boys !!! You are right up there with the easy jeans watch. Moult-me-off
This Australian classic deserved to be a US hit and also deserved a much much better clip. This clip is, quite frankly, feral but Dazzle Braithwaite is once again awesome. I sang with him once in ALice Springs and he is very very humble grounded guy and totally non-pretentious BUT all the audience wanted to hear was Sherbet songs....Its his curse
Yes, there is another version of the video. I saw it on Video Hits on Ten yesterday. Foxtel's Max and VH1 channels, on the other hand, only play this version of the video.
this song is awsomeness. everyone now is such crap :(...But i'm glad i was born later - because now i can appreciate the beauty of past music, and realise what once in a lifetime music was
Borrowed CD from a friend who worked construction with Daryl before he was a recording artist. Loved it the first time I heard it and always wondered why he never made it bigger than in Australia.
i swear there was another film clip to this song and he's singing on a beach in Sorrento...and no I'm not thinking on 'one summer'..i swear there is one..this is such a 'driving down to the beach' in the early 90's song for me.
who ever the squires boys are you are fucked i saw what you said about us wog boys and when we find you your fucked. we already know one of you. curtis! see the rest of you soon
I've seen to six John Farnham concerts (hope there's still more to come)So let me get this sorry I'm slow so the 12 mix is like the longer version?,there is a longer version I just haven't heard it yet.
12 inch mix. I heard John interviewed, apparently he ended up with a headache from hitting the hit notes at the begining on the 12" mix. I'm a John Farnham fan too. had the pleasure of seeing him twice. both great
I can now say I was right to my friends as when I heard this song for the 1st time I said that sounds like J.F doing backup vocals (I'm a huge John Farnham fan)&it is, so HA HA to those who didn't belive me lol
Beautifull song & great singer. So is the rest of the rest of this album. Daryl Braithwaite, was a guest singer, during a brake, at the Danish "European Song contest final" at Beller Centre, Copenhagen, Denmark 1989.
