The reason for that rule is because you can use new pokemon you normally wouldnt. If that rule didn't exist, then you would use any pokemon and most likely get an OP team and wouldn't get any different feelings for that pokemon. FOR EXAMPLE: "Imma play a nuzlocke with catching any pokemon on this route" *catches favorite/best pokemon even though found it after a million tries* No new affection would be made and/or the run would be very easy

As part of the nuzlocke challenge... If the egg hatches on a route where you already saw/caught a pokemon, would you be able to use the pokemon that hatched from the egg?

Also, I internally rage every time you pass up a pokemon on a route. I think you should get any pokemon you can, especially in nuzlocke. For two reasons, 1) it can act as death fodder and/or 2) it can act as an HM slave or something along those lines. :]

The way I play and I see other people play is that gift pokemon and traded pokemon count in the one pokemon per area rule, the only exception that I can think of is the egg pokemon.

Towards your egg comment, theres two ways that are popular to go about it. the first way is you cant use the egg pokemon.

the second way (the way I use) is I count the egg towards the NEXT route. So if i hatched an egg on route 201 and didnt go to route 202 yet, Id count the egg as my catch for Route 202.
