Help my acer aspire is also giving me problems. The finger launch keeps popping up even when i did not touch it. Normally i do log on my pc with the finger launch but not when i am already on the internet as doing that will give this annoying pop up sounds
bought this 8 months ago, most disappointing item i have ever bought, never quite runs properly, taken it back to agent twice in the first 6 months and now have the lovely blue screen of death, don' t know what Acer did with the hardware but seriously steer very clear of this and for me any Acer products in future
I'd like to know what's the function of the battery green led on the top of the keyboard, if it is on the battery life is longer?? , please, tell me how I can save energy for long battery life.... thanks!!!

i bought a $300 net book that recently broke... (2 months after i bought it) and i returned it to get it fixed. then they sent me a bill to replace the keyboard, harddrive, touch pad. though the thing is the touchpad and key board and hard drive werent broken. they broke it them selves. so buy a hp everyone they have trained staffs and more generus by doing everything for free. PS the was the screen wasnt working....
no dvd drive is no problem. USB optical drive, £30, job done. Or just use a USB pen drive.
I have a UL30A, for me either are the most versatile type of notebooks, although they are rather fragile and the screens generally suck. Although stupendous battery life, and fairly portable. I just wish they'd have better build quality. They do the office stuff, video HD, and net browsing really well, and do it all day long without a charge.

I just picked up a Samsung QX410 the other day, and i can easily say i love it. Its almost perfect, only possible regrets being its 310m GPU and a non-backlit keyboard.
HERES my question: Should i return the Samsung and pick up the ' Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks ' (don't really care much about Optical drive, the samsungs hdd is nice, but the Acer has a much sweeter ATI 5650 & a slightly better battery life)... decisionsdecisions..
@Shyguysays imo, that's pretty much my perfect notebook (I want backlit keyboard and SSD, but close enough :)). Dunno about build quality, but it's got everything in a really nice form factor. There is also a version with a HD6550, same performance as the HD5650, but less heat.
If you want graphics, the HD5650 is about 2x the performance of the 310m gpu. I can't speak for you but if you have the chance to get a good deal on the Acer and return the QX410 at no cost, I'd do it.

Love the looks! its a gorgeous laptop! BUT!... its too slow! when your watching a youtube video the CPU spikes up to 100%, plus you cant do anything on it. Twittwe laggs, youtube also, most of the social networking sites. I recommend the looks, but you honestly cant do anything on it. i returned it the first time to get a new one, then the other one was worst! took about 2 minute to load the desk top, when brand new, nothing installed... i give this laptop a 1/5.

I have this model and as a university student it is ideal--- i laugh when all my friends pull out their power cords... i can type for 8 hrs on word with no problem.
It's also lightweight b/c there's no dvd drive... and I haven't needed one.
the only downside is that when you type when it's IS plugged in, the fan comes on because the computer gets warm (not hot).
I loooove the deactivation button--- use it all the time b/c the track pad is super sensitive.
i have this laptop the battery saving features are annoying it turns things off when running on battery to save power including the wifi so when your surfing you keep loosing connection i turned the saving mode off battery will last around 5 hours as apposed to the 8 hours arcer state
@Seldanas No unfourtantely, the graphics card is integrated, so it has no dedicated memory, and it really cannot play heavy graphics-demanding games or heavy programs such as HD movie editing. BUT, you should check out the TimelineX models, they have dedicated graphics cards that you can switch to to get some real power. They should be coming out any day now. Hope this helped :)

This CULV CPU is fastest than my old Desktop's Intel Pentum D 2.8Ghz, so Ghz speed is not important, this laptop is ideal for software development, I recommend it because it's capable of running application servers, IDE's, SQL Clients, MP3 listening, having Office 2010 Beta open concurrently. For all previous laptops I had used this has the better performance.

No. IMHO a laptop good for gaming today is an oxymoron (a contradiction in itself):
Laptops should be mobile (slim, lightweight machines which can operate several hours on battery) while gaming needs high performance hardware which needs much energy, which results in bulky, heavy and very expensive machines. You are probably getting more performance for less money from a desktop system.
Gaming laptops will no longer be a contradiction with the new generation of laptops coming out within the next month or two.
Acer 3820TG and Asus UL30JT are just a few slim, lightweight, and ultraportable machines that CAN game. With switchable graphics, those machines have advertised battery lives of 8-10hrs.
The 3820TG will have the option to include the ATI 5650... that thing is a BEAST of a video card :).
it wont be able to play really high quality games like Call of Duty because it has an intel graphics media accelerator 4500mhd graphics card, but it will be able to play stuff like n64 or gamecube emulators pretty well, but if your looking for an intense gaming laptop, i dont think that this would be it.
I've had one of these for awhile, and I find it ideal for internet browsing and traveling. It's like a netbook without most of the limitations. The battery life is truly exceptional, making it unnecessary to find a power outlet most of the time. I wouldn't say it's ruggedly built despite the metal surfaces, but tough enough for most traveling.
I take this laptop to University EVERY day... half my friends stopped bringing theirs because they were too heavy....ha! - teach them to buy dell and hp!

Just got the 13.3 inch one. It is beautiful. I get around 7 hrs of bat life with aero. Webcam records in 1280x720 (HD), keyboard rocks, trackpad is nice and screen is very bright. The hing is excelent, its not too stiff but it is strong. Viewing angle is OK but does fade a bit when viewing from top or bottom. Love this computer!

Hey guys. Im a new laptop buyer. I need a laptop with atleast 2 GHz CPU, 1 GB ram. I need this lap top for school, gaming (so a good graphics card etc would be nice), and music. Im going to be using CUBASE with this, a music production program. I wont be recording like 10 things at once but I need enough inputs to be able to record. This machine is slim, light, quiet and cool. An ideal bargain machine for college students and for experienced PC users who have powerful desktop PCs and dont want to spend a lot of money on a portable replacement. It is not a gaming platform anyway, for those who care.
buy Acer AS3810 (TZ) which has Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 the one on video has single core but much much better than dual cored Intel C2D ULV SU4100 coz atleast it supports intel virtual shit makes it possible to run xp on windows 7 but again if you want hd flash media run better chose tz models that atleast has Processor SU7300

I brought a Acer 15" Notebook in 2004 that i used everyday with heavy surfing, downloading and media using, and still works very well today cause my little brother is using it and i got Sony Vaio just to change things up for a year or two, then i'll go back to a new Acer again.

Upgrading to Windows 7 was very easy for me. I sent my model and serial number to Acer, and they sent me a special disk for this computer. It installed in about an hour with no trouble at all.
yeah the multi-gesture feature is pretty useless. I thought it was very irritating because everytime you use the mousepad the comp would think you were trying to make a gesture. The only good feature is the zoom. However i turned the multi-gesture function off and use it like a normal mousepad.

I think I've found the laptop for me. Battery life is a joke on most of the things I've checked out. 8 hours will do me just fine, not really bothered about the lack of a dvd-rw drive - externals are pretty cheap these days anyway.
2.) if you can afford to actually buy movies then this aint your laptop
3.) slim + light > fatugly + dvd drive
4.) ALL PROGRAMS are downloaded now..if it comes with a CD (like to install drivers) , its probably outdated, it would ask you to go to the site to download the latest version anyways. so yeah...

I have the 3810T... and it's a fantastic laptop for the price... Just make sure to update the BIOS and graphics drivers as soon as you begin using it. Early models have the 100% CPU usage bug, easily fixed by the BIOS update. Other than that this thing rocks! 8+hrs battery, super lightweight, great keyboard, aluminum lid... etc etc... get one!

Graphic card's amount of memories, doesn't represent how good a card is!
Like a ATi HD 2400 can have 1Gb in video memory, while a HD 4850 could have 521Mb, but the 4850 would still run games better than a 2400 by loads.

A Mac book Pro is a fine piece of hardware, in fact it was one of the candidates I had for my new system. It has a really nice aluminum case.
But in the end I decided to buy an Acer 3810TG-734G32n 3G.
A non 3G Acer is around 600 Euro, the smallest Mac Book Pro around 1100.

I've had one of these for awhile, and I find it ideal for internet browsing and traveling. It's like a netbook without most of the limitations. The battery life is truly exceptional, making it unnecessary to find a power outlet most of the time. I wouldn't say it's ruggedly built despite the metal surfaces, but tough enough for most traveling.

I forgot- the most important part:
I take this laptop to University EVERY day... half my friends stopped bringing theirs because they were too heavy....ha! - teach them to buy dell and hp!
I bought an external dvd/dcd writer because i thought that I might need it... big mistake--- i've only used it once, everything else is on USB (and the comp has 3 usb ports!)

I got this 5 months ago and am prertty happy with it.
just a few issues with it: beacuse of the island keyboard every bit of dust and fluff accumalates underneath and is pretty hard to clean.
about once a week the scroll buttons doesn't work...very weird, but not a problem.
When the fan goes on... it is not so quiet but not really loud.
Who uses the left button below the touchpad anyway-- just tap the touchpad!
Battery life is amazing as long as you are not watching hours of youtube on it

Just got the 13.3 inch one. It is beautiful. I get around 7 hrs of bat life with aero. Webcam records in 1280x720 (HD), keyboard rocks, trackpad is nice and screen is very bright. The hing is excelent, its not too stiff but it is strong. Viewing angle is OK but does fade a bit when viewing from top or bottom. Love this computer!

Hey guys. Im a new laptop buyer. I need a laptop with atleast 2 GHz CPU, 1 GB ram. I need this lap top for school, gaming (so a good graphics card etc would be nice), and music. Im going to be using CUBASE with this, a music production program. I wont be recording like 10 things at once but I need enough inputs to be able to record. Does someone have experience in recording with laptops? Any help is appreciated. Either message or comment. Nice review btw!!

only when there is only about 1 hr of battery life left and the fan kicks into overdrive (and when you have 8hrs.... u hardly ever get there)

This machine is slim, light, quiet and cool. An ideal bargain machine for college students and for experienced PC users who have powerful desktop PCs and dont want to spend a lot of money on a portable replacement. It is not a gaming platform anyway, for those who care.

buy Acer AS3810 (TZ) which has Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 the one on video has single core but much much better than dual cored Intel C2D ULV SU4100 coz atleast it supports intel virtual shit makes it possible to run xp on windows 7 but again if you want hd flash media run better chose tz models that atleast has Processor SU7300

Boots up in about 50sec. Average for VISTA. Windows 7 will boot alot faster.(w/ XP the fastest)

Mouthmusician // From my experience, you certainly can. I brought a Acer 15" Notebook in 2004 that i used everyday with heavy surfing, downloading and media using, and still works very well today cause my little brother is using it and i got Sony Vaio just to change things up for a year or two, then i'll go back to a new Acer again.

well, I am loving mine. This is not a fast machine, but a 'handy' design, good for an archival worker and presenter like me.
there are some little glitches of compability with win 7, however. uninstalling acer built-in programmes can save you a lot of trouble.

Upgrading to Windows 7 was very easy for me. I sent my model and serial number to Acer, and they sent me a special disk for this computer. It installed in about an hour with no trouble at all.

yeah the multi-gesture feature is pretty useless. I thought it was very irritating because everytime you use the mousepad the comp would think you were trying to make a gesture. The only good feature is the zoom. However i turned the multi-gesture function off and use it like a normal mousepad.

I think I've found the laptop for me. Battery life is a joke on most of the things I've checked out. 8 hours will do me just fine, not really bothered about the lack of a dvd-rw drive - externals are pretty cheap these days anyway.

1.) movies are downloaded
2.) if you can afford to actually buy movies then this aint your laptop
3.) slim + light > fatugly + dvd drive
4.) ALL PROGRAMS are downloaded now..if it comes with a CD (like to install drivers) , its probably outdated, it would ask you to go to the site to download the latest version anyways. so yeah...
i agree. dvd drive pretty much useless. (other than gaming even then there are fixes /no cd patch so yeah..)

I have the 3810T... and it's a fantastic laptop for the price... Just make sure to update the BIOS and graphics drivers as soon as you begin using it. Early models have the 100% CPU usage bug, easily fixed by the BIOS update. Other than that this thing rocks! 8+hrs battery, super lightweight, great keyboard, aluminum lid... etc etc... get one!
