  • @roadcaptain71 They took off when they saw the strife

  • Eh...... apparently the Hell's Angels in England were much more relaxed than the Hell's Angels in America. Some people should have done their research before hiring them, but then again when you want to pay someone with beer you have few options.

  • @roadcaptain71 how was the hells angel a coward? He saw a black guy with a gun and he assumed he was going to shoot someone who he was there to protect and he stabbed him end of story.

  • The concert event that changed everything... sadly, for the worst. A sad chaotic blow to the counter culture era.

  • Only at a Stones concert would four people leave this earth and four others enter.

  • 00:11 *drooooollllll*

  • 4 deaths and 4 births => TIE! great :D

    ROCK ON! :D

  • hells angles only good in a gang weak cunts

  • The blame obviously lies with whoever had the bright idea of hiring the hells angels as security.

  • @MrAzdaz The rolling stones are the ones who hired the Hells Angels because there is an organization in London called the Hells Angels. What the rolling stones didn't realize is that the Hells Angels in America had no relation to the Hells Angels in London. In London the Hells Angels where a peace organization as opposed to the U.S.'s Hells Angels. The Rolling Stones released a formal apology for the misunderstanding and the tragedies that occurred at the concert.

  • let's stop & look at this critically for a moment. if one murder occurs in an average american city of 300,000 people, most people wouldn't take that to mean that america's democratic experiment is a failure. so if one murder occurs at a rock concert with 300,000 in attendance, why would anyone take that to mean that the counterculture was a failure? we've got to apply the same standard.

  • @wallofvideo it's not so much the deaths and beatings,, but the symbolic end of the 60's peace and love ideal,, (along with Charlie Manson and his band of lunatics).. it was the mind set that everyone went into,,being the end of 1969,, the chronilogical end of the decade the descent of Haight Ashbury from a hippie haven to a place controlled by pimps and pushers,, ppl fleeing to the country,, Altamont was just one piece of the whole picture,,

  • Despite Brian Jones death, the Stones were in the top at that time. The Jimi Hendrix Experience , Janis Joplin The Doors, Led Zeppelin beginning, the Beatles (regardless almost splitting). The late 60’s was the greatest time to Rock’n’Roll.

  • I'm just wondering what the Frisco Angel is thinking at 2.10

  • @Heathledgerjoker1234 Seeing the Stones for free would've been epic, but be glad you weren't alive to attend this particular concert.

  • I'm no expert, but it seems that The Stones, (having missed out on Woodstock), pushed for this hastily arranged bad-idea of a concert to satisfy the great ego of Mick Jagger.

  • found the dvd of this film in a newspaper kiosk in rome yesterday for 9€ ! :)

  • One of best documents movies, which i saw about the rolling stones.

  • They make it look like Mick Jagger is 90% of the Stones. Don't get me wrong, I love the Jags, but where's Mick Taylor? Or Bill Wyman? If you want to hear a real version of what went down there, read "Let It Bleed" by Ethan Russell. Great account of the '69 tour too, and fantastic photos.

  • look at them negros move

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger played a small role in this film!!!!! This was before he even became popular as an actor!!!

  • Sonny Barger is interviewed on the movie.....he comes over as an ignorant cave man.

  • I am glad I wasnot there

  • this turned out to be the rolling stones worst nitemare !

  • 300 hundred thousand people 4 birth, 4 death ...

  • "There were four births, four deaths, and an awful lot of scuffles."

  • Great movie but not a lot of songs of the Stones at Altamont or other bands there has been included, compared to what was filmed on the day!

  • @BGo93 Bs. The drunken and doped up hippies caused it. If they'd have any sense, they had been smart enough not to start messing with the Angels. Not that hiring them as security was the greatest idea anyway,,,

  • @JohnACorp782 How the hell were the hippies messing with the Angels? The Hells Angels came to Altamont that day to create havoc and they did it all to well.

  • @dsfddsgh Wrong. They were hired to do security, which was a bad idea anyway. The hippies were all fucked up on acid or weed or whatever and started pushing towards the Angels. Another bad idea..So there. Fortunately this, along with the Manson murders put an end to the hippie-era.

  • @JohnACorp782 wrong. bitch. the hells angels were hired by THE GRATEFUL DEAD to do security. jerry garcia talks about them in an interview right here on youtube. they used to do amphetamines and LSD together. pretty sure the hells angels got along with the hippies pretty well. but, when some dumb motherfucker starts waving a gun around bikers get pissed off.

so suck a rich niggas dick.

  • @mohosfasho Nice, very nice. Did you come up with those phrases all by yourself? "Go suck a rich niggas dick". What comes to Grateful dead, who knows how high Jerry Garcia might've been during that interview...besides, he's dead..

  • Best Stones song ever!!!!!!

  • Watch this movie it is my favourite doco ever. (the full length Mayles brothers)

  • @netsky64 this and The Last Waltz are my favorite

  • @BGo93

If a mob of drugged out people starting pushing your stuff over and spitting on you, would you pop them with a loaded pool cue?

  • I was 13 y.o. and saw this movie seven times. My favorite Rock and Roll Band in the World. One of the best live albums ever!!

  • "We want to know what you saw." Cut to black. Great editing.

  • great thing that the hells angels were security or else Mick Jagger would of been killed

  • @SuperBigbudsmoker

By who? The Angels? Meredith Hunter was pulling a gun to defend himself from those animals.

  • Kill all Angels! Now!

  • @frostedhead ok go ahead. Im sure they will have fun butt raping you.

  • @frostedhead

Haha, why don't you start and set the example tough guy.

  • @frostedhead You'll die trying...

  • WE NEED SOME OF THAT PROPER ACID AGAIN HARRRRRRRRRRR

  • What does he say at 0:08 "welcome to the ??? show"

  • @berfariabrazil breakfast show

  • @jagey12 Thank u. 20 years ago I bought a cassette tape of "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out " out in Argentina (at that time it wasn't sold in Brazil LP or cassettes released by Decca Records, wich includes Brian Jones times and the first studio album featuring Mick Taylor, Let it Bleed), and I've never caught exactly what Mick says between the performances.

  • Woodstock : sci fi in green

Altamont : cop thriller in b/w

  • - mick jagger, is such an amazing performer amongst all the shite going on, Rock On Man, and the rest of the team who put on the show totally Fantastic, and totaly f**cked up what were the crowd all on!!! I wish i was one of the camera crew, although I wasn't born then, so thanks for capturing it for history , very good indeed. `EN

  • Just been aired on BBC4 IN THE uk , What an amazing film, great camera work, amazing editing superb restoration and original acetate additive mixing of the film reels, impeccable sync sound recording, and then there is the content of the show

  • The famous Altamont murder in the movie was 40 years ago today!

  • greatest rock documentry ever

  • @softlawe Fuck Woodstock. These guys ended it forever. Last man standing. Get it? Got it? Good. Name one person who survived Woodstock that's worth a line of snot...or alive for that matter.

  • @rhinohouse my mother

  • softlawe: you seem to be an ignorant, at least when music is the subject, you might as well have said led zeppelin is overrated. Let me inform you taht in this you are wrong because the Rolling Stones are not only the greatest rock n roll band alive, they actually invented the genre. I'd advise you to read a little before you speak.

  • @siience greatest r & r band alive, well that is a self assumed claim by mick and the band some promote. they had a long string of huge hits, many songs truly iconic. I saw them live in 81 or 82 and frankly of the literally hundreds of acts I've seen live (including for relevance both US festivals) they were well among the top 10 disappointing hacks live, number 1 being springsteen and his born in USA yawner at LA coliseum.

  • They didn't play woodstock 'cause Mick Jagger was filming a movie in Australia and Keith was waiting for his gilfriend to give birth to thier first child. You are entitled to your opinion no matter how misinformed and close minded you seem to be. Who do you listen to ABBA?

  • @andy65guitar I love the Stones & Abba. Great songwriters & tough as nails. Now why don't you run along & try to find out how to spell the possesive pronoun "thier."

  • Really.

  • what song at 1:40?

  • Gimme Shelter

  • That's what happens when you hire 60 Hells Angels to play security guards of 300,000 hippies. Wrong combination of tribes! The hippies were there for peace and love while the "Angels" were so drunk they kicked everybody's ass.

  • does anyone know where i could find the full version of this film?

  • A FREE stones concert! God why was I not alive?!?!?!?!

  • People got killed.

  • You had to be careful then.

  • @Heathledgerjoker1234 they did one more just four years ago, in Rio de Janeiro.

  • @Heathledgerjoker1234 You may not have been alive after that concert.

  • @Heathledgerjoker1234 -- uh,, IMHO I don't think you would have wanted to be at Altamont,, considering how it turned out

  • @william3231954 yeahh... lol

  • @william3231954 You're right. I was there. It wasn't fun, believe me. Left , went home and watched it it all go down on TV.

    The end of an era...........

  • That's my favorite outfit!

  • ya same whr can i find this movie???????

  • Anna I found it!!!!!! :)))))) :)

  • what the altamont free concert basically thought

us was that after woodstock we began living in a fantasy of "let's through a large concert for free, and don't worry, people will just chill out and enjoy the show." There was only one thing they forgot would come in the way, HUMAN NATURE.

  • "A lesson how to behave at large gatherings..." Chilling as hell.

    Thanks for posting it.

  • @ibeleaf73 the behaving well part was obviously a failure. i mean, four deaths? why that one idiot pulled a gun or even brought one to a concert is beyond me. and that isnt something to blame HAMC for.

  • @Emmy070 good point. putting 300,000 kooks in one place and not having even the selective process of making them pay to get there is a recipe for disaster by itself, add the additional factor of them being SF bay area kooks (me born and raised in SJ, now live south in SD) and it's a guarantee of immense stupidity.

I have no particular love for the handful of HAs I have met but this was not their fault at all. Security at such events SHOULD be heavy handed.

  • @Emmy070 Well, yeah. I was being sarky.

But the HAMC I will blame for lots of things, in any case.
