It is a very unflattering depictions and earned him years of death threats from Polish emigrees in the US where he had moved to in 1957. It is not clear that Kosiński ever claimed directly that the book had been autobiographical. He lived with his Jewish family as a pretend Catholic with a Catholic family.

hey! It's not for a film, it's for the book itself. It's like a title for a movie but instead for a movie, it's for a book. I think also it will be great if someone will do an adaptaion for the book into a film. It will be awesome!

In fact Kosiński had spent the war years in hiding with a Polish Catholic family and had never been appreciably mistreated.
