The good news....my lost love of 30+ yrs ago just reappeared in my life admitting his 'mistake' when he walked away. We're communicating and get a chance now and then to interact and the same feelings are still there for both of us. We met when he was 24 and I was 36. I'm approaching 70 and the love is still there. Never give up on love:-)
WE ALL SAY THIS AFTER A HEARTBREAK..I KNOW..BUT IM DYING TO FIND THE NEXT GAL I COULD SPEND LIFE WITH.AFTER NOT REALLY GETTING MY CHANCE TO WIN OVER, MY DREAMGIRL, KITTY KEARNEY OF LONG ISLAND..IT MIGHT BE EASIER NOT TO FALL AGAIN AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE PAIN, HEARTBREAK AND TEARS..BUT THATS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE FOR ME...NO WAY...THERE IS SOMEONE FOR ALL OF US OUT THERE, EVEN IF THE FIRST CHOICE MIGHT BE GONE..GOOD LUCK KITTY..I MISS, LOVE AND WANT U..BUT NO SUCH LUCK..WISH ME LUCK TOO..PEACE.
Hard to listen to without tears - "remembering how it used to be" going through bad times in a marriage with this song for the backdrop. That marriage will nevertheless be 45 years young this September, but the emotion this song conjured all those years ago is still right on the shirt-sleeve.
@StripeRich I feel your pain and share your determination to find one who is right. Never give up searching because of the pain. But I believe it is a rare thing for each person in a couple to see the other as the one who makes their life complete. Hold that feeling and it will work and the good memories will pile up for later years. If it fails some day, there is always someone else. Hearts heal more easily than most realize.
@xrayman149 thanx for your comment..wish me luck, even if i cant win kitty over..thats my death penalty...there are plenty of fish in the sea, but not like her.....no way....there are others, but i dont think like her..and the problem is that i find myself comparing her to any other gal i date..thats not fair to them....damn.....again, thanx...pete
wow , I can remember back in 76 and only being ten and taking my radio to bed with me and listening to it into the early morning! This song at that time seemed to be the most played and this really brought back memories.
I remember hearing this for the first time, and thinking that the melody was too beautiful to have been written by him, then found out it was taken from the Rachmaninoff Second Symphonym the third movement...
I was a teenager in the 70's!...and missed out on hearing Eric Carmen and Tod Rundgren sing...but THANKS to UTube, I have discovered them!!GREAT music!!Thanks You Tube!!xx
..this song is often played often, just go to Shoutcast, click decades, then click 1970s....many oldies stations play it too, there are 6,000 internet stations, from AOL to Mike's Radio, he has thousands, google him
this is when music had heart and meaning takes me back to my youth when you had a girl friend she meant something to you not like they treat girls today they have no clue how to treat a women give your heart to them and dont take it away give them all the love you can and in return you might just get it back
Excellent Song in everyway. I used to run a radio station recently and we would play stuff like this. But, as usual, the corporate radio machine doesn't think you want to hear songs like this, they will continue to play the same 300 song over and over and over....Very sad.
I heard this song play on a lite station I just started listening to. they play a lot of older stuff that you don't hear on other pop stations(even the oldies stations)-this song being one of them-I heard the song b4 but had no idea it was him. The only songs i know by him are hungry eyes(which I've grown tired of over the years) & all by myself(which I love, and also didn't know it was him at first) I wonder if there are other 70s songs he has that I'd like.
@vidlvr99 Not a '70s hit, but "Make Me Lose Control" is another one of his hits (from 1988). Also before his solo career he was lead singer of the Raspberries, who had several hits, including "Go All The Way," a top 10 from 1972.
@Superbook4Eva I really like "Make me lose control" but I didn't know that was him until a few months ago when I saw it as a thumbnail on one of these pages. I gotta check out the Raspberries stuff.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time! But...it's also one of my most favorite classical pieces too since if was lifted almost note for note from Rachmaninov's Second Symphony, Third Movement. Eric was heavily influenced by Sergei Rachmaninov and used the Second Symphony (for this piece) and the Second Piano Concert (Second Movement) for All By Myself. Rachmaninov wrote incredibly beautiful music full of yearning, loving and longing.
no wonder i like this song so much. the same thing happened when it came to modern singer Amy Lee: she is one one tiny handful of current singers whose music i like, and it turns out that she has classical piano music training, with her music strongly influenced by Mozart
WOW! I haven't heard this song in ages! I used to think it was a little corny when I was younger but it grows on you and it's one of those songs that you never forget once you hear it. Reminds me of a Beatles era type song. Thanks for posting this!
PS: Our favorite song then and now is Crazy Love by Poco:-)

Well... it seems as if our friend E. Carmen was somewhat of a melancholiac! [Though, of course, there is the possibly I am wrong here.]
Thank you, Eric, for your rendition of this remarkable song.
