Is he the very best? No. Is he one of the best? DEFINITELY.

And from 70's? I feel loved in a song Run of the mill. Also Starbreaker, Sinner, Victim of Changes, Epitaph, Dreamer Deceiver, Exciter, Heroes end, Hell bent... were very good songs to listen. But that is only 1 or 2 brilliants on a whole album

Sadly, the album they were working on was "Turbo", which was by far the worst album they ever made. Sadly, it sold well and Ram It Down was the follow up as they vowed that if Turbo had failed "Painkiller" which was their best since Screaming For Vengeance would have been their next album. I saw them the night before I graduated from high school in 1986 and they just sucked. I never thought I would say that about them.

@szymusiek1980 i enjoy listening to painkiller straight through as much as defenders. better drumming, its just full on metal. i mean idk if i'd say its better but i enjoy it alot. painkiller has lots of great tunes. the title track, leather rebel, night crawler, leather rebel, hell patrol, all guns blazing, a shot at glory, a touch of evil, i could list the whole album.

@codebabe this modern sound of Painkiller is the natural succession of progression - new style of percussion, new sound of guitars, better quality. But this is only an areola. Painkiller is not so exciting and delighting like DOTF. DOTF has a spirit, it contains a climate of the year 1984, it simply screams the 80's. When I hear Defenders, It's like the feeling of whole reality of the world in 1984.

Maybe you don't feel that essence; you look at different things which fascinate you in Painkiller

@szymusiek1980 defenders is cool. it is very mid 80s sounding. which isn't necessarily a good thing. as i dont care for the production of a lot of 80s albums. i enjoy the sound of true 80s metal(meaning non hair metal bands). i dont care for the really airey sounding snare drums or the overuse of synths all that much. some great songs were written in that time but i enjoy late 80s to mid 90s production a lot more.

That's becasuse Judas Priest was actually an old curse phrase to Christians, thus the band Judas Priest's play on words. So basically the band name is not only ironic (since they don't exactly play Christian music) but is also like cursing multiple times when chanting their name.

What's interesting is that Halford has stated before that they are not an anti Christian band, rather the name was used because it was catchy and would get people's attention. not unlike the name black sabbath.

@codebabe Sabbath is a great example, they're very much the same way. Tony Iommi as far as I know, is still Christian. He wears crosses around his neck every concert and even crosses on his guitar! But with Priest you're right. They started just like how Sabbath did since Sabbath helped them out on a few occasions.

ROB HALFORD is THE METAL GOD, a living legend. His contributions to metal are very well known by everyone in the metal scene (his voice, leather and spikes,etc.) This man definitely deserves a special place in metal history.

So being such a talented person, what the fuck should we care if the he is gay ? It is totally irrelevant.

I attended the Priest concert in Mexico City a month ago and believe me, at 57 Halford still rules.
