Six seems to be written छः or छह् (from what i know, even if the pronunciation is the same, but it seems illogical) and for some reason it's pronounced 'Che' rather than 'Chah' (the way its written).
Also why is त romanised as TH while it is a very distinct T like 'tea' unlike ठ (th, palatal) or ट which should be like T but a bit softer?
There are some inaccuracies even for someone who's a beginner, unfortunately Sanskrit and Devanagari, even if using the exact same alphabet are a bit different, the former which is or was the original form doesn't use the 'remove vowel' mark (्) at the bottom of the consonant while Devanagari does it almost automatically unless you put ा (-aa) at the end of it.
I can count till 25 and the 10's, and a few other numbers in between. I just can't get the other numbers besides these though. It sucks. We had Hindi as a subject from class 2 to 10th. Still can't get the logicbehind hindi numerals. :0
Please post more lessons!! And it's interesting, much of those numbers sound just like Persian. (I'm half Persian, so...) It must be because they're both Aryan languages...
it could also be due to the fact that the "arabic numerals" are in fact from India and due to the spice trade got spread into other regions as well :)
Its not just the numbers that are the same but they also have a lot of words. I can speak hindi because i spent a few years in delhi but didnt know how similar our languages are. Now every time we watch a movie my wife picks up words and says hey thats the same as persian. I would suggest you watch hindi movies without subtitles. :)
thankx, that was great. one thing that i don't understand is the way you count in hindi. let say 31,560,127 I will say thirty one million and FIVE HUNDRED SIXTHY THOUSAND and one hundred twenthy five. can you read the same number in hindi?
more more more help in hindi please! this is perfect! I have forgotten so much, and am not within the hindu community as i used to be. please add all the videos you may teaching basic hindi language, and formal conversational aids. Hari Bol! Genevieve! Jahnavi Devi Dasi!!!
I'm Spanish and some words that are Indian sound Spanish :O dos

You can clearly see that Hindi and English are related on some level (and indeed, they are both Indoeuropean languages).

very useful, but please add the missing numbers!! ie 21 to 99 - as they are each unique, would be very helpful to listen to them to help memorise!
baadshah0001 2 years ago

you say 21 like ikees. Each number has its own name upto 100 unlike english so its kind of hard to know all the number names.
