  • did you run any benchmarks?

  • Hey i'm thinking of getting a E5520 single one to go with my Gtx 480 i got. Are they really goo or should i wait for the 600$ range i7's? I'm going to be getting into rendering with blender / 3dsmax and motion tracking.

  • @YashKnowsBest It actually won't do games very well, it has an openGL card made for 3d apps and rendering. You would be better served to get a GeForce or Radeon card for gaming

  • i had a boner

  • aye, of course

  • why didn't you install the ram, cpu and heatsinks onto the motherboard before putting it into the case?

  • @innie721 plenty of room, I would rather have the board on its standoffs first if I have the space. Just personal preference.

  • Ofc the calbes har short when ja have the PSU upside down! Flip it arround and you have much longer cables :)

  • what is teth on you arm

    ?

  • Thats HUGE

  • do you believe in cable management ? i know its not a gaming rig or a show piece but damn.

  • @unimatrix82 I always like to hook everything up and test before doing the final routing of cables. In this machine's case a couple of the cables were shorter than expected, with some replacements I was then able to route everything better.

  • Have you upgraded your 3800 to the 4000 yet? It's a HUGE difference.

  • @byGiacobbe nope, still running the 3800

  • @sda3 how much?

  • @ebgrisi when new around $4000 US

  • @ht448 He didn't build the computer, he assembled it, any monkey can put the correct thing in to the slot. If you think assembling a computer is the smartest thing a person can do then you are the Moron

  • @sszhao11 Ha ha! When Did i ever say assembling a computer is the smartest thing a person can do? Never said it... But anyway anyone who can build "Assemble a computer" is Not a moron..."

  • great 1000w smps......sli ready.....:)

  • So I can put a dual intel core i7 3960x extreme ? onto my motherboard?? I want extra cpu speed:D

  • @PoKeR123484 inb4notsureifserious.jpg

  • Just wait in 10 years this gear will be useless :P

  • Would you be able to use dual i7? :D

  • I want that Motherboard... NOW!

  • 1000w psu is for clueless people haha

  • @sszhao11 And comments like these are from jealous people.... Does this machine need 1000 watts? NO, but in the end its still a plus certified power supply, has extra long cables and both ATX and EPS connectors. With the deal I got on it why would I pass that up?

  • @sda3 your dumb

  • @sda3 Quality PSU's 550-700W are enough....

  • watching this video somehow relaxes me. :D

  • Burning with jealousy :P

  • I would use that as a Minecraft server :D

  • When are you needing the dual Cpu's? Isnt a single Xeon powerfull enough to do multitasking.

  • @longmage4 If you read a few more comments you will see that this isn't built for remedial office tasks and multitasking. It is build for Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis. The extra CPU speeds these processes up considerably.

  • @longmage4 Maybe he is going to load Win 8 home edition... ;D

  • @longmage4

Even 8 core is less for high detailed dynamics simulations.

People are now crying for 12 cores.

For maximum average users Pentium4 is more then enough.

  • @issacdhan If only the software kept up. Software is massively unoptimised for modern hardware, unless you're talking about professional level stuff, but even then it's hit and miss (looking at you Adobe!).

  • @sda3

The video did not show you applying thermal grease on the cpus, but did you make it ? Or is it useless with those cpus ?

(Maybe a stupid question for you but not for me/some viewers...)

Watching this video was relaxing, then thank you.

  • @Cinaute

I should have read all the comments first...

So please ignore my first comment...

(Yes, he applied thermal grease on the cpus.)

  • Comment removed

  • By the way the sond blaster won't work there!Cause it's not supported if you are use PCI Ex x1 slot!Jnly with traditional PCI!

  • @xolera82 what soundblaster? he's using an asus mio soundcard in his mio slot

  • @embalmed Yep, it sure was an asus mio....lol

  • CPU cooler direction-FAIL!Now your cpu fans will be resonated with the air

  • @xolera82 didn't leave them that way

  • @sda3 Thank god.

Now all you need is to rethink your hair style.

  • @HiGhTiMeS419 or grow a mustache.

  • Eww should have gotten a modular PSU

  • @iDiggMGL lol never mind it looked different at first lol

  • can you play runescape with that?

  • @zildjianfan101 dunno why you wouldn't be able, but it does have an openGL card rather than directX, and I am not familiar with the games specs

  • @sda3 He's being stupid... Runescape is a little kid's low quality game. Most laptops can play it easily.

  • @zildjianfan101 why would you... that is more like a fucking crysis 2 box..

  • whats that thing on his right wrist?

  • @LikeTotallyDouchey its so his body is grounded, helps to reduce static electricity

  • @MrWatermelon4250 yep, thx

  • can a server board be use for normal pc usage? (like for example: gaming, web browsing, etc...)

  • @Ruiso7 Yes

  • @Ruiso7 From my experience... No, but my experience is based on a really poor configured multi CPU system, so who knows?... On current systems, theoretically the amount of CPU's is abstracted to the OS, so, it really doesn't matter whether you have a multi processor system or not, it should give you the amount of cores all the processors provide, so 2 8 cores processors should give 16 cores, for example.

  • @Ruiso7 Yes

  • @Ruiso7 Well of course, what's stopping it?

  • @Ruiso7 dude this computer is so high up that it can do ANYTHING, it can run games on ultra with no lag at all, and obviously you can browse the web with it, your question is like comparing a Lamborghini to a Toyota

  • @YashKnowsBest

apparently you don't even understand the simplicity of my question first learn to read and analyze the question carefully then think of what your gonna say then type it down as a reply and a quadro card is not for gaming, you will get some serious lag issues if you look closely i din't ask for whats the difference i just ask if i can run normal pc stuff on a system using a server board

  • Nice job.

  • Who the hell needs that kind of work station, just go to best buy and buy a 500$ prebuilt gateway computer and your good for 2-3 years

  • @Fixableguy why buy a $500 prebuilt computer from bestbuy thats only 1/100 of the performance you need for the stuff you do on a workstation?

  • @lukeskywalker2 Who cares if its 1/100th the power if the most demanding application the normal person would run would use half that.

  • @Fixableguy

You clearly don't know how to use a computer...

  • Nice Hair xD

  • Why not use i7 processors??

  • Why..... WHYYYYY

  • isy vidoe card

  • nice job.

  • can you turn Crysis on they PC ? :D

  • just a quick note of thanks - you won't believe how much frustration & grief you've saved me today

  • @maxymedia Thanks, how did I help?

  • @sda3 Hi, I had a bit of a Homer Simpson episode - I'm not technical and needed to upgrade my video graphics, subsequently picked up a cheap Nvidia Quatro FX 3800 on Ebay but had no install instructions. So until your video I missed the very important bit about plugging in the cards own power supply (big duh). So, needless to say my delight in getting things going.

Thanks again and just shows the importance of descriptions and keywords in any content SEO.

  • Dude how much does it costs? Coz Im interested in building a dual xeon workstation for 3d rendering too. But the only motherboard I know that supports dual cpu other than server motherboards is the EVGA SR2 and that is freaking expensive! Is it cheaper to use a server motherboard and run Windows 7?

  • @Zakaria90 this one was about 4 grand when it was all finished. There are several Dual proc ATX motherboards now. You can use a server (SSI EEB) motherboard as well and just run win 7. You do have to use xeon chips though, the I7s are not made to work in dual proc situations it supposedly can be done but it isn't an easy task.

  • What is your primary use for that beast?

  • Why go with a aftermarket motherboard when Intel has a geat deal on there own for server builds? Anyway good video :)

  • @MrTpengineer I had an ATX case, not SSI EEB and I have had good experiences with Asus Mobos in the past and they were one of only two Dual Xeon motherboards with an ATX form factor at the time.

  • @sda3 Really? I have a bunch of dead Asus motherboards out of new pc's, I guess the common thing among them were bios or voltage regulator failures, there ok as long as they stay alive :)

  • @MrTpengineer in the last few years I have put Asus boards in 5 different PCs and none of them have failed. I have also built 2 with intel boards and they haven't has issues either. Back in the P4 days I had an MSI board fail, haven't used one since.

  • @sda3 Yes, i'm not saying all of them will fail, i've had Dfi, Msi, Asus, Intel, and Foxconn motherboards before they have there ups and downs, most reliable were Intel and Dfi. Asus, just not so much, they can be tricky.

  • Respond to this video... Mentioned below in comments. CFD modeling and Finite Element Analysis.

  • is it ok to insert pci express 2.0 video card into pci express slot?

  • How well do the prollies talk to each other, is it as smooth as running one?

  • @187RailroadBull yes it is

  • 1000w.....I'd be surprised if that thing draws 450 at load.

  • @BlaineDeschain Thats about right, but it was a great deal, plenty of expansion and will meed my needs for many years to come.

  • @sda3 Well what expansions? Processors are getting more energy efficient, I can't see a Quadro series card pulling very much more than the 3800. I suppose though if you're paying 600 pound for a work station GPU, a nice PSU won't burn a hole in your pockets.

  • @BlaineDeschain Yep, not to mention it is quiet, gives good quality power and is efficient.

  • @BlaineDeschain sorry to post late but the reason for that is expandability, true that person may never even reach 800 with upgrades but its not really a bad thing to have extra. I built my system with a max load at around 500+ and i gave it a corsair 750 just in case i wanted to add another graphics card or hard drive(s)

  • I would like to see the video card cables' energy being plugged.

  • did you forget to put thermal paste on the processor?

is it much of difference between geforce 1gb and quadro 1gb ?

  • @6580006247 Nope its on there, I just cut that out to shorten the video. Quadro and Geoforce are completely different graphics chips. Geoforce is DirectX and good for gaming and video, Quadro is OpenGL and better for 3D applications.

  • @sda3 You can also run a quadrocard as a geforce because the gpu`s are the same as the gpu`s from the geforce series, only at lower clocks.

  • @FabiFender with the geforcedriver understood

  • @FabiFender Yes you are ultimately correct. I worded that incorrectly, It should have said they are for different purposes. They are essentially the same hardware, but the drivers are completely different and for different purposes. That being said, I still don't know why anyone would want to buy a quadro for gaming when you would get better directx (gaming) performance from a geoforce card for much lower cost.

  • How much did it cost?

  • are you able to overclock the e5520? I'm thinking about buying a new PC and i'm just wondering what my options are.

  • @sda3 would you reccomend this case?

  • Respond to this video... @3674087574175895618 Yes, I like the case. It is huge, but it is meant to be, it is a full tower. But it has clean lines and is well built, there is no plexi window to see in on the other door you don't see.

  • how much did this cost? do u use maya?

  • @Nathan4012 A bit over 4 grand. Maya, no. But it would run great on here.

  • @sda3 what do u run on it

  • @Nathan4012 It is used for Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics and occasionally for Solidworks and Matlab work.

  • ur cable managment sucks dude!

    nice machine

  • @josepatino5 I always hook it all up and test it before I tidy up and hide my cables, that is what you see here.

  • @josepatino5 It's a work station computer, not a computer meant to look fascinating. That's his own personal preference of his to not worry about tidying up.

  • @Phenomental1ty it just drives me nuts

  • hows gaming on this?

  • @rrojas955 Never seen a game, it has an OpenGL card, not DirectX

  • those cpu heatsinks....oh dear oh dear

but i guess if you don't use it for really high end stuff they work

  • @0peppers It isn't overclocked so the intel heatsinks are fine. Never seen it go above 60c.

  • lol sry to be invasive but do u mind sharing what u do on u r comp cause i onder what u wld need this for.

  • @jmans25 Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis

  • @sda3 science stuff kk lol i need to ask my sister bout that she works with that kinda stuff (but she doesn't have a supercomputer she uses one at lab)

  • Nice Views sda3!

  • @agentgrizzley hello my friend

  • Crispy

  • @submission123456 Hi I had a Supermicro X5DA8 died AGP card. To build a new better pc. Budget 3,000.00 to 3,500.00 Need: Motherboard (2 processors) lots of USB ports. Video two DVI support with screen rotation, pci x Power supply 8 gig Ram Case socket types !!!??? I do not mind paying for the right system build. or contact me at 718-812-6769, Brooklyn NY karlitobm@ymail.com What I need is basically a server for home use. I will be running windows XP.
  • Price???

  • Nice hair.

  • hey can you give some advice and help

im planing yo buy Workstation Board S5520SC can it run GeForce GTX 580 or gtx 590

reason the Quadro FX 4800 and other series are bit expansive. so i though if i can run the geforce instead, it will allow me generate an income of i can put it towards the Quadro FX

    is this possible

  • @djdenentertainment It really depends what you are planning on using the computer for, you may not even need a quadro FX card. Unless you are dealing with 3d modeling you may even be better off with a directx card like the GTX 580 or 590. What are you planning on using it for?

  • @sda3 hey thank you for the reply. i'm planning to use this setup for HD video editing, i also deal with HD video rec for wedding etc, so that why i need high processing, software that i currently use is Adobe CS5 update its been design for multi core and u can use GTX 500 graphic cards

  • @djdenentertainment Hey, for video editing I don't see any reason why you would need an openGL card like the Quadro FX card. The DirectX cards do a fine job. As it appears you are, I would be more concerned with the Proc and Ram of the machine. My editing rig (not this machine) is 2.5 years old and runs 2x Xeon 5520 procs, 12 GB of ram with a Nvidia GTX 285 and has been stellar. I think you are on the right track and the GTX 580/590 should be more than sufficient for your use.

  • @djdenentertainment I would go with a evga sr-2 motherboard.

  • @BrokenAtari It wasn't out when I built this computer in March 2010

  • @sda3 I was responding to a question djenentertainment made 3 weeks ago. However, it was out in March 2010. Maybe you missed it by a week.

  • hey can you give some advice and help

  • PLEASE REPLY:

Where do you hook the anti-static wristband too?!?!?

    PLEASE REPLY

  • @ihatejustinbeib any unpainted metal on the case

  • you must have one fun job to get to use this rig everyday

lol at the women talking in the back ground

its pretty quiet I'm kind of surprised good vid

  • hey i am planning to build a server that is going ot be running Half Life dedicated server since my socket 478 celeron seems to over heat so easily (its a dell computer)

i plan to run two servers on the computers. shoudl i just get a dual core or quad core xeon? and should i also use single or double socket?

  • @GAKtion64 I think this is totally dependent on how many clients you plan to host. What are you playing, counterstrike? Over LAN or WAN? I think your RAM and possibly your WAN connection (depending on how you are playing) are going to be the most important. I don't know your situation, but I don't know why you would even need to go to a xeon based proc if you are just hosting a HLDS, You could probably use a mid grade chip I5 or I7 with a decent amount of ram and be all set.

  • @sda3 its actually going to be now hosting three servers and plus i want to try getting each hlds server its own individual cores. like would it be ok to have core 0 run 2 servers and core 1 to run 1 server adn the vnc server? i also want to set the maximum of 18 players on each server along with installing some amx X server pluggins.

  • @GAKtion64 I don't know all that much about HLDS, but the I7 procs are all 4 or 6 core, the same with the new xeons.

  • move the right heatsink so the fan faces the other way

  • @paulhojda Look in the video description. I did after I booted it once. Originally did it that way to keep one proc from blowing hot air on the other, but there wan't enough space to get decent air flow. Now they both vent up and there is an exhaust fan on the top of the case.

  • @sda3 ok. it's much better that way. but why don't u install some more decent aftermarket coolers on those things, cuz those look weak and loud. i'm just sayn'

  • @paulhojda They are not any louder than the case fans actually, and they have cooled it sufficiently. This isn't overclocked...

  • @sda3 ok than. are they PWM controled or are they just normal

  • ye i was gonna say about the fans very close, and glad to hear its not for gaming! as that would be a waste. if you dont mind me asking what programs is this intended for? 3d right?

  • @gobacktorussia This computer is built for Finite Element Analysis (COMSOL) and Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling. The more ram the better for these!

  • @sda3 ah well that explains it then, and why your work would be willing to pay for it!

  • that is the most absurd computer build EVER! really nice! but why the hell do you need 24gigs of ram!!??! to fill that is like running every program on my pc together!

  • chuck norris put this setting in his Acer aspire one !

  • Three things:

    1. Cable management.

    2. Stock Coollers, why?

    3. THAT DAM HUNKING BLACK CLIP YOU PUT OVER THE PSU!!!!! - WTF!!

(Surely it would be secure enough with just the screws in the back.)

Why not move the PSU to the top dock that way it would extract rising heat from the CPUs and you could wind up the cables at the top with some Zippys.

    SSD's and GPU Rocks though!!

  • u need to learn something about 'cable management'. nice system btw!

  • mac users have no idea what's going on here

  • we got the same system!

Except mine is in a g5 casing :P

  • JEZUS UR RICH!!!!

  • @chrissyboy1the2best nope, work paid for it.

  • Isnt 1KW psu overkill??You planning to upgrade later or what?

  • @TheTechnoman55 It is more than enough, yes. Fully loaded the computer is pretty close to 500 watts, always good to have some safety factor there. Did it need 1000, no, but I got a great deal on a quality PS, so why not? You will never regret having too much, but you will always regret having too little if you decide to upgrade later.

  • Dude nice computer but sort out the Middle parting : /

  • how time rendering in 3ds max whit vray ? men ?? .. rapidshare com/files/416178165/Enigma-Vray_Test_2010_2011.zip

  • Ive watched this video like 6 times and only because of the case you are using. If it isnt any trouble could you do maybe like a walk around or review or anything on the case. Great vid by the way. Theres something calming about watching someone build a computer. Huh, must be a nerd thing. lol

  • niiiiiiiiiiiiiice case bro. I love my rocketfish

  • How much was this???? o.O thats amazing! i have the phenom II x2 BE555 and was pretty happy about myself until now...

  • @sda3. I'm building a VM ESX host in my home lab. The case supports E ATX form factor and all of the fora that I have searched on claim that SSI EEB is identical to E ATX form factor. I'm using an Antec 1200 case. Search for Dual Intel Xeon E5520 Workstation Computer Build on Youtube and Xeon E5620 was overclocked to 3.2 Ghz. I'm using identical CPUs.

  • @sda3 - Thanks for responding. I have decided to return the Z8NA-D6 and get Z8PE-D18 D-LGA 1366 Intel 5520 instead. Then I can install heat sinks that will make over clocking the dual Xeon 5620 CPUs possible.

Have you had any experience (good/bad) with Z8PE-D18s ??

  • @relaxdotcom Nope, haven't had the pleasure of using one. All of the dual xeon boards I have used don't allow you to overclock, but I don't know if this one does. Be careful with your case selection though this is a SSI EEB 3.61 mobo, not a normal ATX. Are you building a workstation or a gaming machine?

  • @sda3 - What brand and model of CPU heat sink are you using? I had to return the Noctua heat sinks because the CPU sockets are so close to each.

    thanks

  • @relaxdotcom They are just the OEM Intel BXSTS100A Active heat sink. I was worried about the same thing so I just bought these.

  • Should have gotten the EVGA Classified SR2.

  • @rock962000 Would have been a great choice, had it been out when I built this. This machine was built in mid april, that board wasn't shipped until mid may.

  • @sda3 Then it's time for an upgrade my friend! Lol.

  • these can be used in laptops right? if put in correctly and you dont completely destroy your laptop?
