Pretty sure Lance Von Erich was actually Kevin Vaughn, 1978(?) graduate of Sam Houston High School in Arlington, TX. Course, he wasn't that big in high school. He became a body builder after he graduated.
For me, 1000holds, the hotspot is the heavy hurt the barefoot boy puts on Rude's arm from about 1:48 to nearly 5:00 -- only interrupted by some very Rude-like foot-stomping on those von Erich dogs.
Pro wrestling always exaggerated every wrestler's height and weight. Rick Rude wasprobabally at the most 6'3" and 220 pounds. Scott Hall (aka Razor Ramon) was also jacked in 1986. He looked like a taller, and much more muscular Rick Rude. I'd venture a guess Scott Hall was about 6'6" 260 pounds in his prime. Maybe down to 240 when he was Razor Ramon.
The Problem with bringing in Ricky Vaughn (Lance Von Erich) was that WCCW an the Von Erichs were held in such high regard. In fact they were the 2nd most popular only behind Hogan at that time and they figured they could keep the momentum going with a proven Vaughn. Problem was that although PNW wrestling (Don Owen's promotion) was still known within the diehard wrestling fans and those fans also watched WCCW quite often. Put the two together and you could see why it failed.
Forget Pacific Northwest. Vaughn is from the Dallas area. I think he was known as a high school athlete too. Not only did hard core wrestling fans know him, a lot of the fans in Dallas knew who he was period because he was a local guy.
Let me redo my last comment . Maybe Rick Rude was 245 lb later on in his career but here mybe 220 to 230. Eventhough he was cut up.
Billy Jack Haynes in 1 of those shoot interviews claim that Fritz Von Erich wanted to Repackaged him as Billy Von Erich? Can't knock him for trying keep the family name alive.Everyone knew Lance wasn't a Von Erich.
What was the reason pro wrestling always overstated the weight of wrestlers by 30 to 50 lbs. when they clearly didn't weigh that, nor would anyone believe it? Now maybe Raven's hair weighed 245 lbs., but not Rick Rude.
Whats shocking about lance,is that he never was a real Von Erich, form the Triumph and Tragedy dvd, thats says it was staged, for a replacement to david.
Lance wrestled on Pacific Northwest Wrestling as Ricky Vaughn. When he left PNW, he revealed himself as a cousin to the Von Erichs in Texas. Later, he left World Class and joined Wild World of Wrestling, which ran out of Gilley's in Texas. Fritz renounced him as a cousin so he became known as The Fabulous Lance. I think he was brought in to replace the void left by Kerry after his motorcycle accident.
I think it would have been cool had they brought Lance back to team with the Freebirds against Kevin & Kerry in 87 & 88. I know by this time everyone knew he wasn't a real Von Erich but it would have been an interesting twist.

Lance was brought in to replace Mike when he
got sick, and they were'nt sure if he would
ever wrestle again. From what i've heard bringing in Lance really hurt the Von Erichs
credibilty with the fans.
