80lb line on an 8ft Bronzie? I've seen people land them on 30lb. A few mates of mine fish for small black marlin on 80lb line, which get bigger than what you have here. Don't try and act like some sort of hero about this. Yeah, you caught a decent sized shark, but it's definitely not the biggest I've seen off Fraser.
Yeah mate, I've seen a 9ft bully landed on 17lb pretest. At that pound breaking strain, you need a powerful rod and at least 400m of line (even more if you're kayaking/boating your bait out.)
What size sharks you get on the 20lb test? I'm not quite getting down to 20lb for the larger sharks (6ft+) but anything under that I can manage on 20lb.
@ForgetTheLight I once caught a 6-foot sand tiger shark on my 11-foot surf pole, I've been trying to get something bigger but so far I have no luck with that. The key is patience, you can't just try to force him to get on land so quickly, you have to let him get tired and ease him in. The same thing can also be applied with other line and reel combinations, my dad once caught a 30 pound carp with 4 pound test and and ultra light pole.
Did you retrieve the hook/bait? Anyhow, impressive. Nice release too. I don't understand people talking about "torture": it just took the time to have a photo.
