When you call something gay with a negative overtone, you are implying that people living that lifestyle are bad people. Whether you agree with it or not doesn't make it bad. Tolerance is being preached more and more in our society, and implying that something is bad because you don't agree with it is the opposite of being tolerant, which won't get you far in modern society.

Teaching kids not to use it as a swear word would be great. Wish we had the same kind of thinking here in Germany. People use the word 'schwul' for everything they don't like and 'schwul' is the German word for 'being gay'. For that reason being gay got more and more unpopular, gay ppl got more disliked the last years.

Yeah, gay people here don't mind so much being called gay, because that's their lifestyle. What you described going on with the word schwul is exactly what this video is saying is wrong. I am not gay myself, and I still find it offensive, partly due to the fact that I have gay friends. I used to substitute teach, and I would hear this all the time and it would drive me nuts.

@DJCandyManMike I'm gay and I realized that it gets worse and worse every year. The problem here in Germany is that the word 'schwul' actually is not a positive word. It was a swearword before it was used for gay people. The English word 'gay' once meant happy which is the opposite. Your word 'gay' becomes a swear word, in Germany gay people try to make a positive word from the word 'schwul' but that doesn't work. It gets even worse.
