Remember though, in the trilogy of the three albums, holy wood came first and then mechanical animals and ended with Antichrist superstar. The actual STORY starts with holy wood
Manson in the album reffers to himself as a Worm u dergoing a metomorphasis throughout the album. The other reason i love the album is because you can find some really cool stuff on the cover and in the booklet like a diagram of a worm to angel metamorphasis and medical diagrams. And there are romen numerals on the sleeve, if you multiply the numbers together and then flip the numbers upside down it reads the word HELL
To the guy who made this video thank you, but the album isnt only about america but its part of a three part series of concept albums, all of them very autobiographical, the albums are antichrist superstar, mechanical animals and holywood, i love them all but this one is my fav because it tells you about his child hood and how he was raised as a christian and stuff, but he is slowly realizing that he is not going to be controlled by religion or society thus becoming the antichrist superstar.
To the dude who made this vid, THANK YOU. Finally someone who understands his music and it's meanings. I like how you just explained it how you saw it, instead of preaching on it. I learned a few things too so thanks:) ps iv never seen him live and want too but iv heard he's awful now.. Is it true?? Someone please tell me different:/
antichrist superstar is the name that i associated with manson before i heard of holy wood or mechanical animals. beautiful people, dope show are pretty good but the non singles are awesome on a different level.
I like this album as each track is very different and warped in its own way. its very Nietzche inspired its one of the reasons I started reading philosophy. Its more of a journey than anything else, its like the worm becoming a lion then a child again . Its very thus spoke zarathustra .from reading beyond good and evil aswell as human all too human you can see the themes of the songs. Its not the most disturbing album ever obviously ,but for a main stream audience it can be considered.
But not like "this one sucked. This one was good." the only bad thing about that album is it spawned a bunch of faggy emo kids who are mouthbreathers. I'm 13 but I ain't no mouthbreather! He said it's lucifer's side of the story when he went to """"""""Hell""""""""". But it doesn't take an IQ of 50 to know it also is kind of about himself. "the boy that you loved has become the man that you fear". Hint hint.
And I slightly agree on the rant about angry kids. I agree that it fucking sucks ass that he's popular among mall goths, but I disagree that it's a recent thing. He's been popular with them since the start of his career.
I saw Manson live back in 2007, I can't wait to see him live again for the second time, next month! antichrist superstar is my all time favourite album, great review dude!
you did a great job with this review, this album meant everything to me back in the day haha which is kinda crazy but manson really eclipsed himself with this one it was deffo his masterpiece. my first gig was mm on the mechanical animals tour it was mental. have you ever read his book?
by the way 4:00 to 4:30 was brilliant! I never actually realised that in the beginning he wanted to get to heaven when he was a worm (heaven being the celebrity life) the third part is like him realising its fake and maybe he was best off being a worm
It's an album that's pretty open to interpretation, but that's what I got out of it after listening to it a million times. It has a vague underlying story.
this album just like Holy Wood shows social Darwinism and evolution alot, in this album it shows how the weak die off and the strong live on "the weak ones are there to justify the strong" and ofcoarse Manson tells the story of him evolving himself. but in Holy Wood he tells us how maybe the human race has evolved to become more violent. ha I really wish I could study Manson for my poetry class :) his albums have so many different meanings
Yeah, Holy Wood was more geared toward social commentary while this album was more personal. About his own struggles and growth and what was going on inside his mind.
I was getting ready to come in here and trash this album, but I remembered that I, too, owned this album. And you really captured how I used to feel about Manson in high school. Bravo! 5 stars!
Never saw you doing a Marilyn Manson review. He's cool though. Whats up with all the .04 sencond songs after song 16. Just looked the album up on amg.
They're just blank up until track 99 where he goes into some secret track which is just some distorted speech. I'm pretty sure you could find it on youtube.
i got this the day it came out. weird! i was into portrait of american family but after that, it was kaput! nice review, though. i wonder if marilyn manson gets as many death threats as i do? haha
He'd probably tell that he wishes he got as many death threats as he used to get. Portrait was really good, too, but I no longer have a copy. It would have been fun to review that one instead. His concert tonight was like watching a MTV award show. He has big beefy arms now, too. I wonder if I'll get some too when I'm in my late 30's. Hope so. Old man guns !
You nailed it when it comes to what this album is all about. I thought of killing myself while listening to this album many years ago. Don't worry, I got over it lol. Awesome video man.
Thanks, man. Definitely not the best music to listen to when you're a super depressed teenager. But very effective at setting a dark mood. I loved this album back in the day.

Also brian kick the co-founder Scott Putesky out of the band. They didn't treat him right. Use only four of his songs that he wrote.

That cd is the best and let me explain the cd for ppl who don't understand it
The cd basically explains how Marilyn went from an avrage boy to a huge mega star
It's called anti Christ superstar because he is kind of how Jesus was from tiny normal baby to big important person
I think this one was his best album
