The Dixie Chicks say the Red Cross wouldn't take a million dollars from them, implying GW stopped them from donating.
What they fail to mention is:
The Prez is always the honorary chairman, but has no authority there.
The offer wasn't a donation, but a business deal to promote their tour. The Red Cross doesn't promote anyone. ever. Check the Red Cross org site under "myths" for the truth. The DC's have never donated to the Red Cross, and ignored invitations to do so. Hollywood theatrics by DC's
@therealmenstral is more fitting. The president of the United States even said they had the right to there opinion. What was said caused no one harm. Me saying ,"you are an idiot",does you no harm. When Bush was running for president, he had worse things said by the other candidates . They suffered because of idiots like you that don't know the true meaning of America, or freedom. Go fill your red Dixie cup up you follower.
For the country music family to simply turn there backs on the Dixie Chicks for using one of there rights as Americans. One of the rights that makes America the greatest nation in the world, freedom of speech. You are country music Dixie Chicks, and you are missed. Country music can keep there" red solo cup", I prefer real music, I prefer the Dixie Chicks
@Gam3erSaurusRex She said whatever she wanted every day, so freedom of speech is a non-issue. What you want is freedom from consequences, and that never existed. Prefer them all you want, you are a member of such a small minority of lowbrows that they will never be back.
Therealmensa is just a shithead tryin to be a smart ass so dont waste your time reading its opinion or comments "It" just got out of a mental institution.....
So many opinions but only one thing matters in the whole DC debacle, Natalie only said something that millions already thought, George D Bush was and is an inept warmongering buffoon !!!
DIXIE CHICK MUST BE AFFILIATED W/ CANADA??? TAKE A POLL, SEE WHO AGREES? PUT PRESIDENT TO PRESIDENT AND PUT THEM IN A RING~ SAVE THE TROOPS/ FATHERS/ MOTHERS~
"Its the best thing that ever happened to our career"....and then she cries. Right. She said she would rather give up her career... well, you did, dumbass.
@benfromkentucky And the con-nominees outsold them that year and with only one exception (a woman who went on hiatus because her husband died), they have outsold and continued to be more popular than the Dixie Chicks. Yeah, if getting a pop from latecomers and liberal grammy voters is "the best of things" then your right. Their last album was one of the most hatefully produced and sold albums of all time. Of course, they'll get the sympathy buy of the album, but then, poof. Gone for good reasons
@Therealmensa Nonsense. The Grammys were hardly a political statement. The music won purely on its own merit. The Chicks made the best music of the year, and they were justly rewarded. Incidentally, they had already won Grammys long before the controversy hit. While they may not have outsold their co-nominees, the fact remains that a double platinum album is nothing to sneeze at. People can dispute the Chicks' politics all they want, but their musical excellence is indisputable.
@benfromkentucky Sorry, but in the history of the Grammys, no one has been beaten so many co-nominees with greater sales. The Chicks made the most hatefully sold album ever produced, in my opinion. They got a pop out of the controversy, but thats it. Their previous albums did well at the beginning and held chart position for a long time. Their last? Popped, then poofed. It never made higher than #4 on any US chart, and only then after the Grammys were handed out. It set a record for falling off
@Therealmensa Isn't the point to reward the artists who made the best music? If it were to reward the artists the highest record sales, then the Grammys would be as redundant as a fan-voted awards show. The Dixie Chicks co-nominees had greater platform and exposure than they did, while they sold 2x platinum with no radio support. More importantly, commercial success has never been a measure of quality. What point are you trying to get at by getting hung up on their sales numbers?
@Therealmensa There was nothing 'hateful' about 'Taking the Long Way.' To call it 'hatefully produced' is a huge oversimplification. They addressed the controversy in the lead single, which was a stunning musical testament of the truth that you pay a price for standing up for what you believe. Beyond that, they addressed a wide variety of themes in what was their most mature and personal album to date. To dismiss it for political reasons is to deprive yourself of some great music.
@benfromkentucky How many times will I have to remind you that Natalie Maines IMMEDIATELY denied it was a true sentiment in 2003? Why do you think they got dismissed? Because they bashed Bush? Hell, everyone does that, they weren't unique, and it was irrelevant ultimately. Why? Because she showed she was making disingenuous comments FOR PROFIT on a subject her ex-fan base was having to take deadly serious.
@Therealmensa For PROFIT? How ridiculous. What of all the backlash and death threats that came afterwards? And she didn't deny it was a true statement - she apologized for disrespecting the office of the presidency, later amending that she felt Bush as a person deserved no respect.
@benfromkentucky YES! 60 million, mostly from European dates that were doubled up. On the weight of her diss'ing GW, anti-war protests were planned for the first day of their concert at the cities in Europe, then they all went to watch the wonderful anti-war Dixie Chicks. The backlash was unexpected, but that didn't stop them from not only using the theme in Europe 2003, they marched into their 2006 tour concerts OUTSIDE the USA to "Hail to the Chief" and opened with Not Ready.
@benfromkentucky While she said nothing to disclaim her comment in Europe, in her first stateside interview, she said "we would never use the stage for our religious or political beliefs and that's not what I was doing that night". She even called the comment a JOKE in HER OWN MOVIE! Checkit. And your "later amending"? After no WMDs had been found and it would serve her better to pretend she had meant it all along.
@benfromkentucky The album and their movie was the culmination of a three year propaganda campaign to paint themselves as "victims". And all the while, they bashed anyone who called them on their pandering, and the very genre that made them A-list entertainers in the first place. Cutting and pasting some liberal critic's comments doesn't make it true. And the DC's didn't write one song on their last album. They sat around telling over a dozen professionals what they wanted to say.
You amaze me. And you know that how? Were you in the room with them when they wrote those songs? Or when they wrote half the songs on Fly and Home? You're choosing to believe all this crap only because it's what you want to believe, and you've gone so far with your mindless Dixie Chicks-hate that you're inventing reasons that don't exist. Great music is great music, and it's your loss if you refuse to let yourself appreciate it.
@benfromkentucky All you have to do is google for the album and you'll find quotes from Maines where Dan comes to her about Not Ready, and asks if she wants it to be apologetic. She says no way, I'm not ready to make nice. So, Dan goes off to write the song, using her line for the title. You'll also find quotes from one of the sisters where she says specifically that she loved working around so many talented people and that she and the others (Dixie Chicks) tossed out "Ideas" for songs.
@benfromkentucky Just look at the list of co-writers on their last album - PROFESSIONAL lyricists and songwriters. Not one song has just a Dixie Chick listed as the writer. The Dixie Chicks in their present form had only written ONE song, and that was "Cowboy Take Me Away" for the wedding of one of the sisters. Do you honestly believe that three women who had written only one published song in 10 years stood in a room with lifelong professionals and contributed equally for an entire album? FAIL.
@Therealmensa First of all, they wrote more than "one song." They co-wrote 5 tracks on Fly, 4 on Home. Either way, your above argument is still nothing more than speculation - The fact that they worked with co-writers is not grounds for discrediting their work. And in what sense are the Dixie Chicks not "professionals"?
@benfromkentucky Speculation? Troy Johnson and other writers for Sony are obligated by contract to contribute as necessary when assigned, and he was definitely assigned to Fly. Here is some speculation for you, and its in their own movie; you'll see a writing session where Maines is too involved with her son to do anything more than interrupt the process. Listen to the licks the real Professionals are going through, find the song they ended up on, and see who got credit.
@benfromkentucky And when I say "professionals", I mean people who's sole income comes from writing music and lyrics, not the Dixie Chicks who are busy trying to learn how to mimic what was created. Their cover tunes of popular songs number equivalently to those they "co-wrote" or were handed to them by Sony professionals. Their last album was, in my opinion, Sony's attempt at regaining some traction for the DC's and they threw dozens of real professionals into it.
E majority of the people in the uk stood up against the war in Iraq, and many around the world, so what if she doesn't agree with it. America the land of the free. How ironic ur not allowed to have an opinion unless u agree with the masses like a donkey?
Well Shit! Someone from Texas has to say it! Texas is such a red state that majority voters are Repblicans that allow problems to happen. At least she has the guts to say it!
I'm support of President Bush, and remain one. I LOVE the Dixie Chicks and think they are amazing and bold artist for speaking their beliefs that I think were reasonable and well thought out. Both sides and very valid points about the war, I think Bush wanted to be safe rather than sorry, but this should have never happened to them, although it's made me love them even more. I'm a George W. Bush supporter, a Dixie Chicks lover, and a liberal Christian. #diverse
I have always felt like the Dixie Chicks!! I'm from Austin, the capital city of Texas, and I too am ashamed that Bush is from Texas. I was ashamed when he was president and when he was governor of the state of Texas. And for the country to react the way they did when Natalie announced her frustrations about Bush, really proves just exactly how ignorant those citizens really are!
@rvillela0513 LOL. You're funny. You think she meant what she said. Who says she didn't. Well, she did for almost a year. Shows how ignorant you really are.
@haysnoe I know, its tough when you build an agenda and live vicariously through others. When you pick the disingenuous for your championette, it has to be devastating to find out you've been had. A baseless opinion that can't handle the truth. Poor lowbrow.
Another fun fact to gall your ass: They NEVER offered the Red Cross a donation of any kind. Owww! Bet that hurt.
I think that whoever has enough free time to sit on YouTube and argue with people about why they like the DC's is pretty pathetic. Swearing at people you don't even know is pretty pathetic, you must have no life(:
@turkeysbutts The fans chose to ignore them. This WAS different. They were making pandering comments on a subject millions were having to take deadly serious. They were tossed for more than the one comment you know about. I can't understand why GW decided WMD's were going to be his reason for going to Iraq. He could have said, "Hussein is a maniacal dictator raising two sons who are worse. His presence as the head of Iraq is a threat to civilized society, and we're going to remove him"
@Therealmensa He could also had said; Let's blow them low life sandniggers and their retarded country to bits and pieces, so we can make the new goverment (that we've picked out) can hire our enterprises to rebuild it. Say Heil! ...And who think they'll dare haggle 'bout the oil there after, he he... But that might have been to honest!?

Mensa, do you think that the simple reasoning behind your big worded critisism, egoism and anger goes unnoticed or the fact that you never really answer. stop focusing on defending. big picture! They have every right to opinions. They are artists not politicians. They will always be amazing talents with huge fan bases. Amazing women. And that means they have the right to change their mind. not that they did. One can support a war but not the way its handled. No right to fame. Rights to sing? yes
@kirsty0075 first, learn how to "reply". They have a very small fan base, if one at all. The DC's you know were created by Sony, with a plethora of lyricists, musicians, and songwriters put at their disposal. Especially their last album. You can find interview where the DC's openly admit that they stood around talking about what they wanted the songs to say, and others put them together. They never changed their mind is partially correct. Her comments were never sincere, and she admitted this.
ident, and not agreeing to have innocent people killed.Nd now look at us 10yr's down the track from 9/11 1000's of american troops dead not to mention allied troops, and appart from the fact that YES we have gotten the perpertators of that NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN DAY.You say u have freedom of speach in yr country yet when a celeb comes out like Nat and says whats on her mind u treat her like shit not 2 mention f*^%king up their career's.Yeah thats sum freedom of speech.Nat get bak on that stage girl
@tracey1968ish freedom of speech, yes. Freedom from consequences? Never. Maines was pandering and was NOT voicing a true sentiment. Who says? Maines herself. For almost a year she denied her comment was a true sentiment. Only when it would serve her better did she say she didn't want to be a flip flopper, and flip flopped. Only latecomers like you think they were tossed for a single comment. She pandered for profit, that's all. Gone and for good reasons.
Where were all the people that gave Nat and the girls an ovation when she spoke out about the president, night ater night concert after concert, then basically left them out in the cold when they really needed yr support. It's like well they gave you the entertainment that you went there for then after that u kinda led them like a lamb to the slaughter house. She never once disrespected the troop's nor her country, what she did say was that she would not appollagise for what she said about the pres-
@tracey1968ish She was off pandering to an anti-war crowd for profit while her original fan base was kissing friends and family goodbye for that war. She had a year long runup to the war to voice an opinon, and she said nothing. She disrespected everyone in the USA who were supporting their country's decision. Remember, congress voted on that war. Maines is gone and for good reasons.
@Therealmensa she did not disrespect anyone. she sounded off at the right time. she was not trying to make profilt, actually afterwards everybody was saying - oh they are gonna lose money on their music. who cares. its funny that 8 years later she is still CORRECT and bush is still WRONG. now its almost 4,500 US deaths. funny how media never says iraq deaths! bush wanted the war. if he would have listened to dixie chicks there would be no 4,500 deaths u dumbasz rePUBlican.
@ericwaffle31 LOL. Who do you think said she didn't mean it? Natalie Maines herself did. Bush was a shit, yes. That doesn't change the meaning of her comment. She had a year long runup to the war to say something, and didn't. Only when she got in front of an anti-war crowd in London did she decide it would be funny to diss the Prez. You are agenda driven, and will never understand that they were tossed for more than their GW comment. Have a nice day.
@Therealmensa no it dont matter timewise, if she said something 1 year in advance bush would not have listened to her anyways. also, the media would not pick up on it 1 yr before the war cause it would be a boring story. if she said she didnt mean it she was faking it cause of the pressure from stupid amerikans. still still made lots of money before and after this comment. there was no way she was pandering to an anti crowd, heck her typical fan probably is a hick repub-for war-person
@ericwaffle31 They published several entertainer's opinions objecting to the war prior to its commencement. She was pandering. Who says? She did. You're really ignorant.
@ericwaffle31 It must really hurt to have your ass handed to you so quickly and easily. Nothing but a baby's response because you can't get your head around the fact that you're an ass-clown idiot.
I loved it how both girls stood up for Nat,and showed how much they love her,the other two are sisters so thier love goes with-out saying but it's like they have just pulled Natalie into the fold to try and pretect her as much as they can. Those people that gave the ovations night after night with what she said about the president where were they the next day,wk,mnth, cause it appears to me that you just left her out in the cold, you got what yr 2nd1/2 3hr's of entertainment then u basically led
If the Dixie Chicks hadn't cancelled their show in Florida I would have gone and cheered so loud tht I would have lost my voice! They are my favorite and will always be my favorite! XD

What about ALL those people clapping and cheering them on when she said they were ashamed he was from Texas? Shouldn't they have to suffer like they did?
Their statement is actually the reason I know them. I'm from Germany and we heard that P!NK song "Dear Mr President" and I was like "at least someone stands up against Bush" and my Mom was like "There were the Dixie Chicks... They stood up against the war in Iraq in 2003 and they have paid hard for it. There were things, the people did to them, you wouldn't imagine to be possible in a free, democratic country"
Respond to this video... You only say that because you don't know what was done to them...that is...nothing. Oh, yes, they made a pandering comment on a subject millions were having to take deadly serious. Millions of their ex-fans saw this last of a series of bashes from Maines as enough. They quit buying the DC music, that's all. A tailspin reduction in profits for the DC's did not a national tragedy make. They have no inalienable right to popularity or profit.
First Bush will go down as the worst president in our history. The way he ran this country and what he did to our country he should be ashamed. He went to war with Irag for nothing more then to finish his daddies war and what he didnt accomplish. They wanted him out then and when Bush got in office he saw his chance and how many lives were lost to his negligence.Last FREEDOM OF SPEECH is a powerful thing. They did nothing wrong.Im ashamed of our president and our country. We are nothing but BULLIES.
I am from Canada, not the United States, but I have ALWAYS loved the dixie chicks, and I still do. People treated them like their opinion didn't matter and like they didn't have freedom of speech. It is SO wrong for them to be treated like this. IT'S FREEDOM OF SPEECH. And I agree with them, George W Bush was not the smartest president around but people still do not have the right to treat people like shit because of an OPINION. That is all.
@Brook3Lynn3 Oh, yes they do have that "right". The DC's have no inalienable right to popularity or profit. If they want to say things that piss people off, then they should man up and be willing to accept that those people aren't going to listen to their music or buy their albums. To say that a tailspin reduction in profits and popularity is some infringement on their rights is simple idiocy. Yes, people DO have the right to dismiss this ditzy entertainer.
@kikidee1212 They didn't have a Shut up and Sing tour. If you're going to lie, you really need to make it believable. They are gone and for good reasons.
@Therealmensa When I went Natalie said herself this is my Shut up and Sing tour even though it wasn't officially named that. I was seven when I went and it was in Dallas Texas pretty soon after she made that comment. We had to go through security and we couldn't bring anything in. I remember it all. I'm fourteen now and I guess I was never told the actual name of the tour. Hope this makes it more believable....
@kikidee1212 She said a lot of things that weren't true. The security you saw was only implemented at Dallas. While all concert venues have security of some level, the Dallas area law enforcement organizations spent millions on extra hours and equipment use as a result of the lame threat letter the DC's produced. A shame they didn't just stick to their music and avoid all this unnecessary inconvenience for you when you went, and the officers who had no choice but do the extra work.
so if we said that president bush is stupid is fine and because they said it they make a big deal grow up damn!!!! BUSH SUCK AND IS A SHAME HE IS FROM TEXAS CUZ PEOPLE FROM TEXAS ARE GREAT !!!
Dixie Chicks I love your friendship, your love for each other, and for free speech! Your Music is some of the best! You are truely missed! As you said "if you never record again"...you gals have etched your way into The WORLDS heart forever! Love You All!
What I find most hillarious about this situation is that the Dixie Chicks made a statement that she didn't like George Bush before it was "Cool". Then only a few years later it was "cool" to hate George Bush and everybody was doing it. I support Natalie!
Bush is a foolish man. Liar. It turned out that no weapons of mass distruction. No alqaea in Iraq. His administration is the worst ever. the dixies comments were right.
Aww...boo-hoo! They're crying because they got called out for making a rude comment about the president. Wah! Wah! Woe is me! :( I'm the victim hear. Give me a break. Freedom of speech is one thing, but to flat out insult someone is another.
Can I just say that I'm from Australia, and i agreed with the dixie chicks for saying what they said. Funny how you all say freedom of speach, its a free country, but when someone, a celeb voices their opinion they get treated like crap! George Bush I think is a morron! And I'm so glad that the USA has Obama as president now. Because having Bush as your president I think screwed things us for the USA, and they dragged other countries into it.. That's all i have to say.
@CourtS2187 Obama isn't much better. He promised a lot of stuff and what does he have to show for it? A Nobel Peace Prize for his 'ideas,' increased unemployment. We spent how much on a bill that they forced on us, spend billions of dollars on, only to retract it. and a new health care bill? yeah, it needs to change, but not the way that they need to fix it. they're not going to get anything done when they're not in session for a month. I'm 15, and I know this better than the politicians.
@CourtS2187 i agree with you. i am an American (and sometimes ashamed of it lol, but still love my country). first i hate it when this happens: one american criticises america and then another american tells him he is unamerican and unpatriotic. first of all, its good to have people speak their mind cause if we were all followers it would be baad. you are right, america brags about freedom of speech, yet this celebrity got dissed about that. if america was truely free, media wld shut up
So, 19 terrorists destroyed ~3000 lives with nothing but a plan and boxcutters...
What do we do to retaliate? Bush launches a full-scale ground invasion of Iraq, starting first with "Shock and Awe", which eventually leads us into Afghanistan...
8 years later - 100,000 Iraqis dead, ~4,000 US soldiers dead, large military presence remains in both countries, and the man responsible for 9/11 is still at large...
This was a job for special forces, not an invasion...proves that OIL plays a factor!
Ah, 2003, when True Americans(TM) thought W was the second son of God or something and anyone who disagreed with that was a commie and a traitor. Of course, now that the president is a Democrat, it's suddenly okay to rip on him again. Well now it's our turn to attack YOUR patriotism, bitches! Teapublicans: either support Obama or GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY COUNTRY YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES!!! How's it feel to get a taste of your own medicine?
Credibility of the Grammys as representative of artistic talent, accomplishment, and popularity:
AFTER going 68X Platinum, 63X over 10 years ago, three years AFTER being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, AFTER having eclipsed the accomplishments of the Dixie Chicks even at their most popular, the man who critics call the "King of Country" and a "Living Legend", got his First grammy for an album in 2009: George Strait. The grammys are a liberal political showcase, nothing more.
Hats off to Dixie Chicks. And there are a lot of fans all over the world who believe in them, even if there are narrow minded, idiotic, issue-stirring retards spewing their idiocy over the internet. Oh and yes, I'm talking about YOU Therealmensa.
@TheJayit If they have fans all over the world, then why did they cancel ALL OF EUROPE (15 cities scheduled) and 17 of their biggest venues in the USA on their last tour? Why did they play to a little more than half the available seats at the venues they DID play? And that INCLUDES Canada and Australia! Seems YOU are the one out of touch. Check the T-shirt on the wiki page for the tour. It has their logo. They produced it. Count the cities not played. Yeah, they won big time, didn't they! LOL.
Entertainers remain entertainers as long as they are considered "entertaining". The DC"s ceased to be "entertaining" for millions. Despite what the DC's would have you believe, a tailspin reduction in profits for them did not a national tragedy make. Their continued presence as entertainers was never a "right", nor was it an obligation of anyone to remain a fan. Their insistence that this made them "victims" was an absurdity only the lowest of mentalites agreed with. Gone, and for good reason.
@plaebslayer You're a dumbass troll, simply redirecting the subject at a whim while criticizing any comprehensive response as doing the same. Fuck you, you little retard. If there ever is an end to your anonimity, I'm sure there will be a long line of people hunting your runny ass down. My only regret is that I may not be there to see you get the beatdown you deserve. Idiot.
@plaebslayer Do you know the center for terrorist style training is in Pakistan? Iran has no problem letting Sunni's (or anyone else for that matter) cross to fight the fight they can't get involved in. Why not? Because Israel would bomb them if they did. You need a map of the area, and a history lesson. Sadly, while you can google a map, you can't google intelligence. As a late-comer to Middle East politics (you're in your 20's) you're an Epic Fail.
@plaebslayer Where have you been? Bush is out. I hated his family probably before you ever knew any of their names. Punjabs? Pushtuns? LOL. Its a leisurely boat ride to Iraq, and of course, Iran wouldn't stop any "insurgents" from crossing. Get up to speed or get back on the little bus, dufus.
What a bunch of immature garbage. A young women makes some off the cuff remark, voices her disapproval of a president, and 7 years later some people are still dwelling on it. You would think that Natalie had shot a member of their own family.
"America - where even freedom of speech has a price tag"
Just in case their are Americans who still live in fantasy land, ie believe you are the freest nation in the world, exhibit A. Yes you are free to speak your mind, but the repercussions are more costly than other "freer nations" Very capitalistic don't you think, even freedom of speech has a price tag.
Good on Natalie, history will be on her side, while GWB will be thought of as a simple minded imbecile. The people who voted for him 2nd term have their own place in history, forever known as the "what the F#ck were they thinking" generation.
the trouble is not that geoerge bush is stupid or not (i think yes but...) they can say all they want 'cause is their opinion, and everybody must respect it, agree or not (my level of english is not too high, i hope you understood everything)
i have the upmost respect for the dixie chicks. they have every right to say what they believe. However, even though i usually do not agree with George Bush, if i was president I'm not so sure id sit back and take 9/11. Being a New Yorker, when anyone dares do that to my city, i'd fight back too. God Bless America and the dixie chicks.
@25benG - However, even though i usually do not agree with George Bush, if i was president I'm not so sure id sit back and take 9/11. Being a New Yorker, when anyone dares do that to my city, i'd fight back too. God Bless America and the dixie chicks."
Very noble, only problem is that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. GWB invaded the wrong country. Perhaps he had the map upside down.
@CCRider100 And perhaps getting rid of Saddam and sons was a good thing. ALSO, all the remaining terrorists were training in Pakistan, a nuclear power. While we couldn't directly invade Pakistan, occupying Iraq was a strong temptation for those ragheads hiding in Pakistan to make the short walk to Iraq and become martyrs... and there were thousands who walked right in for it. Not too dumb, if you ask me.
when someone from Texas can't say what they think right or wrong there is something really wrong with our country. And we must fix it. There isn't anything wrong with the chicks or what was said it is those that wish to make silent those who have another opinion. Is not differing opinions what our country is about?
I LOVE DIXIE CHICKS A MILLION MORE THAN BUSH!!! THAT THEY DID WAS FOR FREE PEOPLE TO DO..THEY DIDN'T KILL ANYBODY, YOU KNOW WHO DID!!!GOD BLESS DIXIE CHICKS!I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!
To be proud of yourself is one of the best things you could do to yourself, if you understand what I mean. Yes, it sound good when someone runs there mouth about how great they are.
Pride is a terrible thing, she should say oops I have a big mouth and didnt mean for it to come out like that, I love Bush. If she would of took that route the 3 girls would of been out of this jam. They would have all there fans back, music on the radio, and millions and millions of Dollars. She keeps saying the dumb thing over and over, drop the pride and let the other girls get on with there lifes.
@SingJiya Maybe they don't care about money. Did you even watch the video? They liked what happened. They are PROUD. Pride is NOT a terrible thing. How could you say that? To be proud of yourself is one of the best things you could do to yourself, if you understand what I mean.
@5647854678245245 "How could you say that? To be proud of yourself is one of the best things you could do to yourself, if you understand what I mean". Yeah just what the world wants to here, someone talking about how great they are.
@SingJiya I am not saying that they have to talk about how great they are. Jeez, calm down. You can be proud of yourself, but you don't have to be all "I am so great." "Don't you just love me?" And they weren't like that. I was not like that. But it isn't a terrible thing to be proud of yourself, as long as you don't brag about it or anything.
@5647854678245245 pride comes before the fall. Better just stay away from it totally. People like the underdog, the humble. This should of all been learned when you were a kid.
@SingJiya Are we really talking about christian beliefs? This isn't about the seven deadly sins, which may I add were not mentioned in the bible and science has proven are parts of the brain. That it is healthy to do those things every once in a while. What was my mom supposed to do? Like when I got an A+ on a test should she have said "Your ugly, so don't be proud of that. horendous political issue of " shut up and sing" and boycotts.. against the Chixs. such a landslide 4 them as well. such talents,, for firther victory pls find :Dixie Chicks & Stevie Nicks - Landslide (Live Divas Las Vegas 2002) HDTV
Wonderful come back for the Chix w/ SLN Vegas!! enjoy. Um the Dixie chicks were so brave to speak up.. the song landslide takes on different meanings as the song matures. It sure fit in their lives.good vid also
They may have been boycotted back then but they will be legends living far longer than all the other "famous" country musicians of their time who will all slowly drop out and disappear. These amazing women will continue to shower future generations with grace long after they are gone.

Gam3erSaurusRex 6 days ago
@Gam3erSaurusRex She said whatever she wanted every day, so freedom of speech is a non-issue. What you want is freedom from consequences, and that never existed. Prefer them all you want, you are a member of such a small minority of lowbrows that they will never be back.

@Therealmensa Um... their first post-controversary album sold platinum and won five Grammys. Sounds like they made the best of things if you ask me.
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky And the con-nominees outsold them that year and with only one exception (a woman who went on hiatus because her husband died), they have outsold and continued to be more popular than the Dixie Chicks. Yeah, if getting a pop from latecomers and liberal grammy voters is "the best of things" then your right. Their last album was one of the most hatefully produced and sold albums of all time. Of course, they'll get the sympathy buy of the album, but then, poof. Gone for good reasons
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@Therealmensa Nonsense. The Grammys were hardly a political statement. The music won purely on its own merit. The Chicks made the best music of the year, and they were justly rewarded. Incidentally, they had already won Grammys long before the controversy hit. While they may not have outsold their co-nominees, the fact remains that a double platinum album is nothing to sneeze at. People can dispute the Chicks' politics all they want, but their musical excellence is indisputable.
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky Sorry, but in the history of the Grammys, no one has been beaten so many co-nominees with greater sales. The Chicks made the most hatefully sold album ever produced, in my opinion. They got a pop out of the controversy, but thats it. Their previous albums did well at the beginning and held chart position for a long time. Their last? Popped, then poofed. It never made higher than #4 on any US chart, and only then after the Grammys were handed out. It set a record for falling off
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@Therealmensa Isn't the point to reward the artists who made the best music? If it were to reward the artists the highest record sales, then the Grammys would be as redundant as a fan-voted awards show. The Dixie Chicks co-nominees had greater platform and exposure than they did, while they sold 2x platinum with no radio support. More importantly, commercial success has never been a measure of quality. What point are you trying to get at by getting hung up on their sales numbers?
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@Therealmensa There was nothing 'hateful' about 'Taking the Long Way.' To call it 'hatefully produced' is a huge oversimplification. They addressed the controversy in the lead single, which was a stunning musical testament of the truth that you pay a price for standing up for what you believe. Beyond that, they addressed a wide variety of themes in what was their most mature and personal album to date. To dismiss it for political reasons is to deprive yourself of some great music.
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky How many times will I have to remind you that Natalie Maines IMMEDIATELY denied it was a true sentiment in 2003? Why do you think they got dismissed? Because they bashed Bush? Hell, everyone does that, they weren't unique, and it was irrelevant ultimately. Why? Because she showed she was making disingenuous comments FOR PROFIT on a subject her ex-fan base was having to take deadly serious.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@Therealmensa For PROFIT? How ridiculous. What of all the backlash and death threats that came afterwards? And she didn't deny it was a true statement - she apologized for disrespecting the office of the presidency, later amending that she felt Bush as a person deserved no respect.
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky YES! 60 million, mostly from European dates that were doubled up. On the weight of her diss'ing GW, anti-war protests were planned for the first day of their concert at the cities in Europe, then they all went to watch the wonderful anti-war Dixie Chicks. The backlash was unexpected, but that didn't stop them from not only using the theme in Europe 2003, they marched into their 2006 tour concerts OUTSIDE the USA to "Hail to the Chief" and opened with Not Ready.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky While she said nothing to disclaim her comment in Europe, in her first stateside interview, she said "we would never use the stage for our religious or political beliefs and that's not what I was doing that night". She even called the comment a JOKE in HER OWN MOVIE! Checkit. And your "later amending"? After no WMDs had been found and it would serve her better to pretend she had meant it all along.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky The album and their movie was the culmination of a three year propaganda campaign to paint themselves as "victims". And all the while, they bashed anyone who called them on their pandering, and the very genre that made them A-list entertainers in the first place. Cutting and pasting some liberal critic's comments doesn't make it true. And the DC's didn't write one song on their last album. They sat around telling over a dozen professionals what they wanted to say.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
You amaze me. And you know that how? Were you in the room with them when they wrote those songs? Or when they wrote half the songs on Fly and Home? You're choosing to believe all this crap only because it's what you want to believe, and you've gone so far with your mindless Dixie Chicks-hate that you're inventing reasons that don't exist. Great music is great music, and it's your loss if you refuse to let yourself appreciate it.
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky All you have to do is google for the album and you'll find quotes from Maines where Dan comes to her about Not Ready, and asks if she wants it to be apologetic. She says no way, I'm not ready to make nice. So, Dan goes off to write the song, using her line for the title. You'll also find quotes from one of the sisters where she says specifically that she loved working around so many talented people and that she and the others (Dixie Chicks) tossed out "Ideas" for songs.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky Just look at the list of co-writers on their last album - PROFESSIONAL lyricists and songwriters. Not one song has just a Dixie Chick listed as the writer. The Dixie Chicks in their present form had only written ONE song, and that was "Cowboy Take Me Away" for the wedding of one of the sisters. Do you honestly believe that three women who had written only one published song in 10 years stood in a room with lifelong professionals and contributed equally for an entire album? FAIL.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@Therealmensa First of all, they wrote more than "one song." They co-wrote 5 tracks on Fly, 4 on Home. Either way, your above argument is still nothing more than speculation - The fact that they worked with co-writers is not grounds for discrediting their work. And in what sense are the Dixie Chicks not "professionals"?
benfromkentucky 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky
interrsting but i never heard from this group ..LOL
seeems they are only known in usa
JayTj2 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky Speculation? Troy Johnson and other writers for Sony are obligated by contract to contribute as necessary when assigned, and he was definitely assigned to Fly. Here is some speculation for you, and its in their own movie; you'll see a writing session where Maines is too involved with her son to do anything more than interrupt the process. Listen to the licks the real Professionals are going through, find the song they ended up on, and see who got credit.
Therealmensa 1 month ago
@benfromkentucky And when I say "professionals", I mean people who's sole income comes from writing music and lyrics, not the Dixie Chicks who are busy trying to learn how to mimic what was created. Their cover tunes of popular songs number equivalently to those they "co-wrote" or were handed to them by Sony professionals. Their last album was, in my opinion, Sony's attempt at regaining some traction for the DC's and they threw dozens of real professionals into it.

Mensa, do you think that the simple reasoning behind your big worded critisism, egoism and anger goes unnoticed or the fact that you never really answer. stop focusing on defending. big picture! kirsty0075 4 months ago
Her comments were never sincere, and she admitted this.

tracey1968ish 4 months ago
@tracey1968ish She was off pandering to an anti-war crowd for profit while her original fan base was kissing friends and family goodbye for that war. Maines is gone and for good reasons.
Therealmensa 4 months ago
@Therealmensa she did not disrespect anyone. she sounded off at the right time. she was not trying to make profilt, actually afterwards everybody was saying - oh they are gonna lose money on their music. who cares. its funny that 8 years later she is still CORRECT and bush is still WRONG. now its almost 4,500 US deaths. funny how media never says iraq deaths! bush wanted the war. if he would have listened to dixie chicks there would be no 4,500 deaths u dumbasz rePUBlican.
ericwaffle31 4 months ago
@ericwaffle31 LOL. Who do you think said she didn't mean it? Natalie Maines herself did. Bush was a shit, yes. That doesn't change the meaning of her comment. Therealmensa 4 months ago

Hope this makes it more believable....
kikidee1212 8 months ago
@kikidee1212 She said a lot of things that weren't true. The security you saw was only implemented at Dallas. While all concert venues have security of some level, the Dallas area law enforcement organizations spent millions on extra hours and equipment use as a result of the lame threat letter the DC's produced. A shame they didn't just stick to their music and avoid all this unnecessary inconvenience for you when you went, and the officers who had no choice but do the extra work.

ChrisHill991 10 months ago
Aww...boo-hoo! They're crying because they got called out for making a rude comment about the president. Wah! Wah! Woe is me! :( I'm the victim hear. Give me a break. Freedom of speech is one thing, but to flat out insult someone is another.
HippieGoddess142 10 months ago
Can I just say that I'm from Australia, and i agreed with the dixie chicks for saying what they said. Funny how you all say freedom of speach, its a free country, but when someone, a celeb voices their opinion they get treated like crap! George Bush I think is a morron! And I'm so glad that the USA has Obama as president now. Because having Bush as your president I think screwed things us for the USA, and they dragged other countries into it.. That's all i have to say.
CourtS2187 11 months ago 19
@CourtS2187 Obama isn't much better. He promised a lot of stuff and what does he have to show for it? A Nobel Peace Prize for his 'ideas,' increased unemployment. We spent how much on a bill that they forced on us, spend billions of dollars on, only to retract it. and a new health care bill? yeah, it needs to change, but not the way that they need to fix it. they're not going to get anything done when they're not in session for a month. I'm 15, and I know this better than the politicians.
1996sparkles 5 months ago
@CourtS2187 i agree with you. i am an American (and sometimes ashamed of it lol, but still love my country). first i hate it when this happens: one american criticises america and then another american tells him he is unamerican and unpatriotic. first of all, its good to have people speak their mind cause if we were all followers it would be baad. you are right, america brags about freedom of speech, yet this celebrity got dissed about that. if america was truely free, media wld shut up
ericwaffle31 4 months ago
@CourtS2187 are you crazy? Obama is worst then Bush ever was. They are both morons.

TheJayit 1 year ago

@plaebslayer Climb out from behind that anonymity, mouth. We'll see.
Therealmensa 1 year ago
@plaebslayer You're a dumbass troll, simply redirecting the subject at a whim while criticizing any comprehensive response as doing the same. Fuck you, you little retard. If there ever is an end to your anonimity, I'm sure there will be a long line of people hunting your runny ass down. My only regret is that I may not be there to see you get the beatdown you deserve. Idiot.
Therealmensa 1 year ago
@plaebslayer Do you know the center for terrorist style training is in Pakistan? Iran has no problem letting Sunni's (or anyone else for that matter) cross to fight the fight they can't get involved in. Why not? Because Israel would bomb them if they did. You need a map of the area, and a history lesson. Sadly, while you can google a map, you can't google intelligence. As a late-comer to Middle East politics (you're in your 20's) you're an Epic Fail.

@plaebslayer Man, get a grip on the language and grammar. You naive ass-clown.
Therealmensa 1 year ago

CCRider100 1 year ago
Just in case their are Americans who still live in fantasy land, ie believe you are the freest nation in the world, exhibit A. Yes you are free to speak your mind, but the repercussions are more costly than other "freer nations" Very capitalistic don't you think, even freedom of speech has a price tag.
CCRider100 1 year ago
Good on Natalie, history will be on her side, while GWB will be thought of as a simple minded imbecile. The people who voted for him 2nd term have their own place in history, forever known as the "what the F#ck were they thinking" generation.

i have the upmost respect for the dixie chicks. they have every right to say what they believe. However, even though i usually do not agree with George Bush, if i was president I'm not so sure id sit back and take 9/11. Being a New Yorker, when anyone dares do that to my city, i'd fight back too. God Bless America and the dixie chicks.

Very noble, only problem is that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. GWB invaded the wrong country. Perhaps he had the map upside down.
CCRider100 1 year ago
@CCRider100 And perhaps getting rid of Saddam and sons was a good thing. ALSO, all the remaining terrorists were training in Pakistan, a nuclear power. While we couldn't directly invade Pakistan, occupying Iraq was a strong temptation for those ragheads hiding in Pakistan to make the short walk to Iraq and become martyrs... and there were thousands who walked right in for it. Not too dumb, if you ask me.

a feeling of self-respect and personal worth
satisfaction with your (or another's) achievements; "he takes pride in his son's success"
the trait of being spurred on by a dislike of falling below your standards
a group of lions
be proud of; "He prides himself on making it into law school"
unreasonable and inordinate self-esteem (personified as one of the deadly sins)

when someone from Texas can't say what they think right or wrong there is something really wrong with our country. And we must fix it. There isn't anything wrong with the chicks or what was said it is those that wish to make silent those who have another opinion. Is not differing opinions what our country is about?

SingJiya 1 year ago
@SingJiya I am not saying that they have to talk about how great they are. Jeez, calm down. You can be proud of yourself, but you don't have to be all "I am so great." "Don't you just love me?" And they weren't like that. I was not like that. But it isn't a terrible thing to be proud of yourself, as long as you don't brag about it or anything.
5647854678245245 1 year ago
@5647854678245245 pride comes before the fall. Better just stay away from it totally. People like the underdog, the humble. This should of all been learned when you were a kid.
SingJiya 1 year ago
@SingJiya Are we really talking about christian beliefs? This isn't about the seven deadly sins, which may I add were not mentioned in the bible and science has proven are parts of the brain. That it is healthy to do those things every once in a while. What was my mom supposed to do? Like when I got an A+ on a test should she have said "Your ugly, so don't be proud of that. You really are stupid." Is that what she was supposed to say? Pride isn't an awful thing.
