  • THIS was on a xl2? not that the xl2 was the greatest or anything, but i think my android has taken similar looking shots:P

  • Should have added a bit of a camera shake to make it like your there.

  • the link sends me to a site about male enhancement.....

  • Check out /watch?v=NsstBWjZAjQ for Free color film look presets !!

  • great video keep up the good work.

  • bmw m3?

  • link dosen't work

  • Broken link

  • link is down :(

  • Ahhh C'mon broo! u gotta take care of ur beamer!

  • next time make a 16:9 video and export it in 24p or 23,996p

  • this is like the beginning of paranomal activity 2 xD

  • thats good......which camera u have used for making this clip.........

  • L0L.. is that Need for Speed Most Wanted?!^^ :D

  • amigo ,

con que programa lo has echo? thnks

  • what camera did you use ??

  • @superboss1995 Canon XL2

  • @nuclearspike Why didn't you shoot 16:9?

  • good but how we can create a motion like movies its a kind slight blur

  • cool that looks alot better!

  • nice beamer, ridin fresh i see. haha nice video man!

  • I make that easier, just put more contrast on it!!!

  • Very nice, I like when you show the difference at the end.

  • Very cool video.

  • all u guys need to chill, its a simple fact that any CC for a "film look" will look like a film its what the fit it this is like a music video "film look"

  • cant say it looks like from a film... more from a tv show :P

  • bad correction. you lost the fog lights and the sheet metal does not look nice at all. It just looks dark.

  • Was that ur M3

  • I think the best settings.. would be in between.. i think you over did it with this much colour correction..

  • doesn't look like film. it looks like obvious color corrected video. The ability in a camera to seperate focus objects is more associated with the cinematic feel. Most every movie, television show or documentary uses color correction, it just depends on how much they want you to notice it. Green; like Fight club and matrix. Blue like most James Cameron movies, orange like every Bruckhiemer flick.

  • @fourth1000 Yes, I know. "Film Look" is far more than just color correction/manipulation, it also involves depth of field, lighting, composition, jib and dolly shots, 16:9 aspect, 24 fps, etc, etc,...

But... they also do color manipulation, which is all this video is showing. This was my first attempt at color manipulation to get a specific look for a film idea I was playing with and it happened to get 60K views. This video is not intended to be some encyclopedia of all the things needed.

  • @nuclearspike Dont feed the trolls ;)

  • @nuclearspike 16:9 aspect? more like 7:3. that looks way more cinematic

  • @nuclearspike Also they use a lot of CGI in photoshop, like landscape manipulation, Like if a city in distance is destroyed or been attacked then they will manipulate it and heavlly colour corrected it to give of a nice effect.

  • @fourth1000 Why do you have to make this guy feel like shit, he's trying to help out people that are just starting out and don't give 2 shits or a fuck about being masters, because well they aren't. He's just trying to give novices somewhere to start, everyone has to start somewhere.

  • Good color selection. I am new to AE and PR so I am not going to get into that debate about what color correction really is. Would love to learn how you did that.

  • Unless you're making a conscious effort to be the next Steven Spielberg, for the dilettante, "boosting the shit out of the blacks" is enough.

  • can i do like a sort of desaturated filter(Like in "The book of Eli")

    if so let me know!

  • @Dingoman013 Yes. You can. I only showed 1/1000th of what the plug-in can do. You can make your stuff look as warm or cold or whatever... as you want.

  • Real film-looks are much different.

It doesn't require JUST a color-correction. Also, the contrast of the corrected version is way too high. It's full of black-points.

  • Add a letterboxing effect, Makes it more "Film"

  • Sorry about your car; bummer : -(

  • I always wonderd how films looked so much diffrent in behind the scenes to the complete movie lol

  • out of focus

  • original is better

  • Nice! lol, I can't believe you totaled that car.

  • @jollierancher123 yeah :( neither can I. By the look of it after it was totaled, you couldn't really even tell. Aside from ripping off the front bumper, most of the damage was underneath...

  • hektik, thanks!

  • Hmm...I honestly liked the original better...haha

  • lol apparently a film look is just boosting the shit out of the blacks. Colour correction is not about creating a signature look, its about correcting the colours (creating realistic hues)

  • I understand your objection to the use of the term "Color Correction" when it's being used for a color shifting or creating a distinct look. However, since all of the settings are under the plugins and features/tools named "color correction" that is what people (inaccurately) refer to it as and how people search for it.

  • Fair point mate,

  • @killswitcher No dir, dummass. Hence the name "color correction".

  • no need for filter plug ins! all you have to do is overlay the video with a copy of the original. and mess with the color correction tools..

    cheers!

shoot at 24fps to complete the "film look" or render the video at 24fps with a 3:2 pulldown if its DV

  • Nice

  • hi - nice demo...

is this plugin compatible with pinnacle studio/avid do you know??

  • I don't know for sure, but I would guess that it is not compatible.

  • Nice one mate..pl make a tutorial...thanks

  • There's a tutorial about how to use the plug-in on the blog post listed in the side bar. Enjoy!

  • This split screen really demo'd the effect well.

  • Thanks!

  • Nice gonna check it out

  • Higher contrast and a hint of sepia tone

  • You can definitely use the plug-in to get a warmer feel (with sepia or more yellow) but I was going for a specific feel with the settings I chose. It's quite flexible.

  • it looks cheap. Too much contrast. And ''film look'' is not about effects or color correction

  • wrong, is both about color correction, and the composition of a shot.

  • @akdk95 and depth of field.. which my video does not have since I was using a wide-angle lens. But you are correct, color correction is used quite a bit in movies and TV shows, maybe not with the same settings I chose.

  • +lighting

  • Make A Plug In Then

  • how on earth did you total such a sexy car?!?!!! :O

  • I'll summarize this way: it was too much fun to drive extremely fast, add some gravel and a curb... and you've just gutted an M3. It was a sad day, but the insurance paid $8K more than what they were selling for on ebay (due to economy), so I can't complain.

  • haha dude massive bonus you have!!

    good old insurance,

  • please upload tutorial?

  • if you follow the link to download the free plugin, there's a tutorial on that site.

  • ehh its ight. heres the basic steps to adding that film look anyway you want on after effects: adjust each effect to your liking... levels, tint, curves (most important), levels, then brightness and contrast.

  • the thing about movies, if you want to make it look like a movie, do not overdo any effects. btw, you are using to much contrast, it looks cheap.

  • do you know where can i get the change to color plugin?

  • how do u make the thing at end, showing before/after? i use sony vegas now.

  • There are a couple different ways to do it, I just ran two layers of the video, one with and one without color correction. Then I animated the cropping line (you could also use masks) to pull it back and reveal the other video layer.

  • make 2 video tracks, that's ok. but making the "entering effect" for the 2nd video... i don't know what you talk about, i'm a noob ;O

  • Look into layer mask animation.

  • just do a mask

  • how do you correct colors ?

  • does this work with after effects cs4?

  • yup, it works great with CS4.

  • great thanx,..im making a motorcycle stunt video...ill link you when im finished..

  • i have cs4 when i sample black for example it goes all the way black?

  • how do u sample do you click?

  • I had the same thing happen the first few times I used it. Before you sample you must click onto just one of the properties in the panel. For some reason, by default all of the colors are selected at the same time, and when you sample it sets all of them at once. So, just first check that only one is selected. Hope that helps.

  • please make a tutorial...

  • If you follow the link to the plugin, they have a video tutorial on that site.

  • works it for after effects cs3

  • Yes, the plug in was released prior to CS4, so it works with CS3

  • GOD that BMW LoOks BANGING!!!!!

  • Thanks! It was soo much fun to drive (333 hp) It's too bad I totaled it. :(

  • Yeahhh man I OWN a LExus IS F 2009 416 i just got into a accident man is a big wrecked in my life man but check my vid

  • This effect is very good but for some reason it won't work for me. I've loaded the plugin but when i try to sample my colors the video just goes very dark...any ideas?

  • yes, when you first apply the plug-in, it selects all the properties so when you sample it sets them all to the same thing. So, what you want to do first is to de-select all (by clicking around in the options). The same thing happened to me when I first used it. Hope that helps!

  • Ohhhh right...thanks for that :)

  • nice.

  • hey man thats a great plug-in i downloaded it and its so professional....im also thinking about getting colorista.....thanx for the upload..

  • Thanks, glad you found it useful!

  • load your work on Vimeo. Makes a big diff.

  • I agree, I also have a Vimeo account and it doesn't get nearly the same amount of views as YT but hosts much better quality versions.

  • I bought the DVE essentials for bluray. But i like what you accomplished. I don't want to buy the book. Just tell me what you know. THANK YOU.

  • You already read the book. Just TELL US what you raed, man.

  • oh wow, I was just looking at tutorials and realised this is from the book sitting beside me here, Its an AWESOME book, was kinda expensive though, I take it everywhere with me.

  • It is a great book, Stu definitely knows the subject matter. Luckily, the price has come down from what it was initially, it's on sale for $31 where it was first $50 (link in the sidebar)

  • what type of file extension is this.. I tried AE and when i compose im forced to choose a preset (width height)and pixel aspect ratio ,I want to retain the original, maybe the same file type, plus it enlarges the file into 2 gigabye witch is originally just around 38 megabye....

  • The preset file only does some color adjustments, it doesn't change the file output type or screen ratios, I'm not sure what you're doing that changed your normal output options.

  • I checked out this vid a couple weeks back, and was pretty amazed at how far a few color corrections can go.

Tonight I finally got around to getting the preset, and tried it out. I used the same settings you used as you described in the description, and woah! It looks amazing! Now I just gotta figure out how to do an anamorphic crop =P

    Thanks!!!

  • I'm glad you found it useful, thanks for letting me know!

  • a good idea to make it even more cinematic is to put the aspect ratio to 16.9 and make sure there are borders on the top and bottom

  • 16:9 is definitely a good way to go. But the letterboxing you mention only happens when you're viewing 16:9 in a 4:3 area. If I had posted a 16:9 video, it would have filled out the sides of the YT player without letterboxing. I think it'd be good to assemble an "everything to do to make your video look pro" video including depth of field, 16:9, etc. This one was just targeting post production processing using the Rebel CC plugin. Thanks for commenting.

  • cool tips! really appreciate your hard work..

  • Glad you found it useful! Thanks for the comment

  • nice showing of you... but first: what did you do exactly i believe just plaiyng on the brightness and contrast. i tried doing a fake bleach bypass on your video (loaded it flv data) and tried a bleahc bypass it looked very cool then colorized it.) try a bleach bypass in after fx or premier. if you know how its good. it looks way better.

and pulling up contrast isnt gonna do everything. and maybe add some grain cause the dark areas look still to good.

good work though. keep on doing...

  • thank you very much!

  • I use both Premiere and AE for effects and editing. They're very powerful

  • To save money, you can just skip the 35mm converter, you won't get as shallow depth of field. But you can still bring it down to 24p and color correct just with software which goes a long way.

  • I used a Canon XL2. It is not HD and wasn't set for 24p. There are methods to get 30p to 24p which adds to the feel of film. This plug-in does not do anything with frame rates, it's more just to get the coloring of film. I shot with a wide-angle which doesn't have a shallow depth of field. Had I done it with my telephoto it would have helped some, but to get really nice shallow depth of field like film has, you need a 35mm converter to attach to the camera... which costs thousands.

  • Thank you very much for sharing us this! I'm trying it out right now really thanks for the help. 5*

  • Glad you found it useful. Thanks for commenting

  • hmmm i always suggest you do it yourself. Go to color 3D corrector increase blacks increase whites move the palette to give it a yellow tint and perhaps bring down the saturation a tad and its much better..

  • It's just different UI's to modify the same options. I was interested in a colder look than pushing toward yellow gets you, but you can yellow tint with the plug-in if you like.

  • what plugin did u use?

  • the link is in the description.

  • works only on mac?

  • I have a PC and it works great on there. Since it's just a preset file, not executable code, I'd imagine those files work on both mac and PC.

  • thnx installed it and it works like a charm

  • Does the plugin work in CS4? Which sub folder of presets do I put it in?

  • I'd imagine that it'd work in CS4, I do not have it so I don't know for sure but Adobe typically supports all the past extensions in their new versions.

You can create your own subfolder if you want or toss it in with some others that are similar. Then tell it to refresh it's list and it will appear (reloading AE also gets it to show up)

  • I've also now got CS4 and confirm it works with that as well.

  • great color correction! if only u had a 35mm adapter to give you some depth of field...but its very close though..

  • Thanks for the comment! I was using a wide-angle lens which has a flatter DOF, I could've used my telephoto from far away.

  • what website is the free plugin available on

  • Click the "(more info)" link under the date added in the box on the right. I have the link in the description.

  • dude you just saved my film! 10 star!

  • I'm assuming that the plugin and linked tutorial helped you out. Glad I could help!

  • yes it was very helpful! i have sent this video to about 17 of my friends! thanks!

  • Did u use curves and levels?

  • I used the free plug-in that I have a link to in the description. It sets your curves and levels. Follow the tutorial on that site to know how to use it. It's a great plug-in (and free)! :D

  • Thanks
