A better choice is the Z981 (also discontinued liked the Z980) or the new Z990. Both of these other models handle noise MUCH better than the old Z980. In fact, the Z990 is a very significantly better camera. Picture quality and noise reduction is MUCH greater because there is an improved sensor in the Z990.

That has to do with the aperture. The highest the aperture (lower f number), the lower your depth of field, which means that your focus is on the foreground therefore your background will be blurred.

@Haze1692 It have various options specially in the PASM modes: 1.- automatic focus. 2.- (2.1.-optional selectable zone for medition of the focus, or 2.2= Complete scene medition for the focus). 3.- manual focus... but is not a manual focus, its a semi-manual because you change it through the interface... additionally you can select the macro, supermacro or normal for a short times in the focusing!

@ohmydanielle I have one of this, its very powerfull with the HD videos specially for the zoom (macro, supermacro, normal) but the color chip in automatic mode of photos mode is very awful, i currently use the kodak z740 for photo's and the z980 for hd videos (sd strandar size memory is needed for rec in HD ).

@ohmydanielle You need to take control over the PASM modes for get a a little acceptable Quality but continuous left much to be desired. (much noise in the contours) Have 2 continuous shot mode (5/1seg< looks li ke a poor cel phone and the continue mode its more slow but bigger sizes) the obturator sound is very quiet than the z940!

I understand its an autofocus, but I also have a kodak z650 and it takes almost as good of pictures at close range as my 1100 dollar canon. Could this z980 really keep up with my rebel xsi and 300mm IS lens?

I have the z812is. It takes BEAUTIFUL amature photos and has a 12x optical zoom. The BIG problem is the video mode. The z812is CLAIMS to do HD quality video, BUT - the audio quality SUCKS in videos. It has a built-in stereo mic, but it does a PISS poor job with audio. As I said - photos look SO good, but it's DEFINATELY a consumer camera.

Still it has an use, bird, events where there is enough light [outside concerts maybe] and so on.

24x zoom well it helps. I do suggest whoever is interrested in this model to see pictures shot with it. And read reviews though I like to see an F2,8. It probably won't sustain in the full range though ;)
