  • If apple used this..SO WHAT...

ADVERTISING IS ALWAYS STEALING BECAUSE THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE ADVERTISING ARENT ARTISTS.

    ADVERTISING MAKES GARBAGE.

  • that's not true.

most advertising is garbage, but it doesn't go for all. So you can't use the word always here.

  • @chi3sa Successful art always opens the door to new ways of communicating.

On the rarest of occasions, I guess, it might be the other way around but finding a consistent set of examples seems difficult.

  • The idea of a telephone montage may have been thought up totally independently...maybe it was a rip off, maybe not. Just keep in mind that it's not exactly the most unique idea in the world!

  • Apple approached Christian Marclay to use this montage and he declined. Good artists borrow, great artists steal, huh Steve?

  • Isn't this a copy of the iPhone ad?

  • this is the original.

  • art?

  • It's not even a good commercial, I'm not even interesting in the iPhone for the phone part. I just want the i.

  • christian: sue apple.

they'll make millions of the new i-phones.

and their comercial made me want one

    BAD

  • of course he knows; and like a totally naive hypocrite he wishes he could sue them for doing exactly what he does! this is stupid and annoying; everyone rips everyone off, so to speak. art is remix; ads are remix; remix is who we are... and frankly, the one piece doesn't supercede the other. christian: wise-up dude!

  • Why don't the studios who made the films used in Mr.Marclay's piece sue him? He is just stealing their product to make his own. His art may be good or interesting but he shouldn't benefit any more than ytmnd'ers who also remix media.

  • @mightisright Yeah. You are assuming that he made money though... Some artists achieve fame and recognition without money. Kenneth Anger, a highly regarded film artist of the 20th century, now in his 60-70s, lives in a tiny 1 bedroom apt in Hollywood.

  • that new commericial for the apple phone totally ripped this off. i wonder if christian marclay knows.

  • How in the hell does something like this possibly be patented?
