  • I don't know why... But i cry at this moment... Maybe because of the beauty... Maybe because of the sadness... Maybe because i hear in the song all that i can't see in humanity today.

    This is a masterpiece.

  • [Something about this song being beautiful]

  • prince of persia days!

  • i love how whenever i listen to this song i always find a comment that makes me realize the beauty of life and music

  • ....this is ART.....

  • NOOO! I just listened to the Engima remix and now this is too slow!! NOO! I am ruined! This is my favorite song!

  • this is the song on that eating disorder commercial

  • Is this not a made up language? Isnt that part of Sigur Ros's whole idea/make up, that it is all not real?

  • @wolf363 no, well sort of. parts of Sígur Ros' music are in what they call "Vonlenska" (litteraly translated that is "hope" "language" but most people translate it as hoplandic) this is gibberish using íslenska's phonetics. this song however is not all vonlenska because the name at the vary least which is sung a couple of times in the song. sæglópur means lost at sea. im fairly certain the rest of the song is atleast in part in Íclandic, but i don't speak it well enough to be sure.

  • This feells like a dream, a really good dream

  • I don't want to know what the lyrics mean. This is beautiful in any language.

  • I was introduced to Sigur Ros by a woman whom i had a passionate but brief love affair with. Both have made my life forever beautiful.

  • @JCannister same here, i feel ya, this song touches me better than the girl in my love affair!

  • this song is very nice to me and I really love is very useful for many activities, cheered me up .... this great

  • I think music paints a different picture for everyone; coloured with relevant emotion. It is a beautiful art, but not the finished painting to see, It is the inspiration used to paint our own...

  • This song gives me hope when i have little left. Absolutely beautiful.

  • "I have no idea to this day what those two [Icelandic] ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it."

  • My favorite song ever. Its as though it is my friend. Every time I hear it, its like something very pure is speaking to me. Your music is so emotional. Thank you.

  • This song is very personal to me.

  • this remind anyone else of birdy's skinny love cover?

  • i imagine this is what the life cycle of a star. The intro is the creation, the main body is the life of the star, the middle is the death of the star and the end is the atermath

  • The language is not Icelandic,it's a fictitious language based on Icelandic "As indicated by the lead singer".I am American, and by age of self idolatry,I mean how most popular music preaches and the popular culture revels in worshiping one's self. Why can't you just appreciate original music?Would you ask a fish how to describe the water? What this group comprises is beautiful and helps to enrich my life.Music is the soundtrack to each of our lives and I'm glad that you found your way here.

  • @falltowardthesky what u talking bout, this is icelandic

  • @109brh Only part of it is Icelandic, the rest is what Jonsi calls 'Hopelandic'.

  • @109brh wrong

  • @falltowardthesky some of it is Icelandic, but a majority of it is Hopelandic

  • my ballet/lyrical class is doing a fablous dance to this song and I love it <333 this song is amazing!!!

  • all i need is this song.

  • I cried too.

  • @Confliicted Me too, sir, me too. Always.

  • Ive been listening to this song for two years and i still dont know wth their saying but its soo fuckin beautiful. <3 this song forever

  • @thatkidfrankieC They're not actually saying anything through most of the song. Only the ending, after it gets quiet, is in Icelandic.

  • I want a glockenspiel

  • Check out Burbank High School's showchoir: Nsync do their version of this song. "Saeglomassive" A mix of Saeglopur ans Supermassive Black hole. Really great mix!

  • Isnt it a bit disturbing that the music video is about a boy being pulled down by some monster and drowned? Good music though

  • One of the most beautiful nonsense languages <3 (It's called Vonlenska)

  • This is what beauty sounds like.

  • You're obviously a master of adjectives. You know, those parts of sentences used to describe events, places, things, etc.Sorry to disappoint you considering that you're without a martyr and all, perhaps if you took a little more time time to appreciate original music,my girlfriend Amanda and I wouldn't share such a laugh at your expense. We appreciate mostly rock, and these guys are anything but rock.Good, but far from shredding guitars.

  • I don't know what is being said but it sounds beautiful. Good song.

  • search for "some quickscoping on zoo"

if you like sigur ros and videogames; youll love this

  • search for "some quickscoping on zoo"

if you like sigur ros and videogames; youll love this

  • simply beautiful

the drums, the vocals, the keyboard - everything falls away to raw emotion!

I cannot listen to this song without nearly being moved to tears!

  • Now I really want to swim naked...

  • saeglopur is my character name in world of warcraft!

  • @jerrmiahb because you sir lack originality :P

  • @keithtuber - Those comments are tired, for sure. This song is not about anyone. It's up for debate, but consensus is it's a song about the possibility of salvation even when there's seemingly no hope.

I had to do a bit of fact checking to find out, but the lyrics basically translate to: "A lost seafarer returns home, A diver comes, A lost seafarer returns home"

  • TENTACLE RAPE

  • You know when it's beautiful when you don't need to understand what it's about, but only the emotions that you have experience.

  • thats just beautiful

  • Music is a universal language and what this group produces is a thoughtful, insightful, inspiring, introspection of the human condition.I for one do not care if I ever understand a single word of the lyrics. The brilliance of this music allows me to understand and allows me to draw closer to it's origin, and within it,I draw a greater understanding of it's importance, especially in a day and age of such self-idolatry that has began disillusioning the masses, hope remains humanities saving grace.

  • @falltowardthesky Thank you. That was beautifully put.

  • @falltowardthesky you're an ass

  • @falltowardthesky You talk like a fag and your shit's all retarded.

  • @falltowardthesky learn to use the space bar properly you goddamn pseudo-intellectual

  • @falltowardthesky :V emotions have no language it has no face which makes it to be empathetic with

  • @campernocamping1

    Yeah they do. Body language.

  • @Jmonstra true O: *i overlooked that... GRAHH D8<*

  • @falltowardthesky yo genius of nollege is never truly define but that paragraph is genius >:O *smile* :)

  • @falltowardthesky

But if you never understand what they're saying, how do you know that they inspire insightfulness, thought, introspection etc? What if it's nothing but a string of foul curses in Icelandic?

Seems that if the music means that much to you that maybe learning what the lyrics mean in whatever your best language is would be a better way to, "draw yourself closer to it's origin'' or whatever. Also I'm not too sure about what you mean by an ''age of self-idolatry."

  • @Jmonstra What about when Jonsi sings in Hopelandic? Some people take things too seriously.

  • @Jmonstra Music isn't always about lyrics and in some cases, are the least important aspect to a song. Sigur Ros creates an environment in which one breathes, imagines, creates, and lives.

  • @falltowardthesky lolwut.

  • Zawsze będzie kojarzyć mi się z Tobą słonce :*

  • Holy shit, this song gave me chills all over the body, this song is truly the definition of music

  • This song is really me. I'm 19 and I've to leave home last year to help my family because of the current economical crisis here in Spain. Before that, my mother doesn't taught me nothing about life out there, so the first days I felt like swimming in the ocean, lost and scared. I was really afraid, and my mom couldn't do anything about that; this part remains me as how the boy goes into the sea. Now, circumtances are identical to the last year, and I still feel "lost at sea" (sry for my english)

  • I've had this song stuck in my mind,my mind and my soul for the last week SOLID. it is simply beautiful. this is music we surely hear in the afterlife if it does exist. This cannot be explained as JUST MUSIC.

  • that is the weirdest water ever

  • if you didnt know the title saeglopur means lost at sea in english

  • Thank you Human Planet

  • @ELOM76 I started to watch the show because I'm a sucker for this song, and they're using it for their theme and ads.

  • @ZeroBeat1 Yeah BBC/Discover have used Sigor Ros several times for their intros and ads.

  • @MyCatLikesYourCat Look at the live video and you'll see

  • Linda música!

    Simplesmente incrível!

  • I DECIDED THAT THE BOY IS ALIVE!

I need to learn Hopelandic because it was created by Sigur Ros!

  • Take note of the interesting symbolism at the end. Very much "Pieta" by Michelangelo.

    Splendiforous song/video :)

  • I cried.

  • @Confliicted You are pussy.

  • This makes me sad now because I just thought about what went down in Japan.

  • The beginning of this track just makes me want to dance and float around in space and time...

  • THAT was legite!

  • i hate this song.......but i can get it out of my head

  • @SexayyCookies It would. But it's not true, so if you would indeed say it, it would be a lie.

  • @SexayyCookies It's spelled youre, otherwise it means that that mature belongs to me, that it is my mature. And no, I'm not mature, I'm trolling you to fucking hell, and it gives me great pleasure to know that it is working.

  • @Lop7dh NUH UH!!!

  • @79898325 See?

  • what aret they singing about? it sounds amazing!!!

  • @ulysax1979 Everything but the quiet part at the end is vonlenska ("hopelandic", a fictional language invented by the band), and thus only has whatever meaning you assign to it. The quiet part at the end is here:

  • @KarenRei The beginning is Icelandic too, I checked some other lyric websites but most only show the ending part (which is also Icelandic), but yeah, there are actually "real" lyrics in the first part too. Its REALLY hard to translate the first part, because the words can mean SO many things the way Jónsi says them, its practically not possible to translate the lyrics. For example, one line goes as "Þú líður, ó friður".. This one line makes this part really hard to translate.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @theundeh Part 2 of my reply: The reason its so hard to translate is because "Þú líður", literally? means "You float", but the word "líður" can also mean to "feel" something emotionally, it can also mean to "suffer through something". "Ó friður" literally means "Ohh peace", but "Ó" is also like the "un-" prefix in English, so saying "Ó, friður", youre phoentically saying "ófriður", which means "unrest" in Icelandic. That one line can mean so many things, depending how you translate it

  • @theundeh Sigur Rós does this alot in their lyrics, so structurally speaking, their sentences are sometimes incorrect, but contextually they are really really? awesome because they convey so much with so few words.

  • @theundeh I think you're just hearing things into it that aren't there. There's no question that vonlenska has an íslensk accent, but that's not surprising, since Jonsi does, too. It's obviously going to have the same sort of sounds that you find in Icelandic.

  • @KarenRei Hehe, I understand what you mean, but I am Icelandic and this is what he says :P I can try and translate the verse for you so it retains it meaning. You can also probably search for it online, the first line goes as "You are a fox".

  • @theundeh I speak a little Icelandic. That'd be, what, a grammatically incorrect "You feel, oh peace!" (þu instead of þér) or something along those lines? Or "You wave, oh peace!" (gibberish, basically). To put it another way: there are lots of people in the comments thread for Hljómalind who are convinced it's a song about orange juice. ;) That's sort of the point of a nonsense language like vonlenska -- you can hear into it whatever you want to.

  • @KarenRei No there is a distinct difference between 'vonlenska' and Icelandic. You cant trust me on this, the first verse is "real", "Þú ert refur, þú hefur - á loft, þú líður, ó friður". Ask any other Icelander about this if you dont believe me.

  • @KarenRei And its not grammatically incorrect, its like, the whole verse is grammatically correct, but its structurally incorrect, I cant explain it better than that, I'm sorry, but please, ask any other Icelander.

  • @theundeh I'd be very curious if you could explain why "þu liður" would be grammatically correct. I'm still learning, and would love to hear from a native speaker, because as far as I was aware, the phrase was "mér/þér/honum/henni/þvi liður eitthvað". And if you google search "þu liður" versus "þer liður", you find orders of magnitude more hits (1800 instead of 8).

Anyway, just as Hljómalind isn't actually about orange juice...

  • @KarenRei To clarify: the 1800 hits is for "þér liður", not "þu liður".

  • @KarenRei "Þér / mér líður vel" means "You / I feel good", "Þú líður vel" would be grammatically incorrect, "Þú líður áfram" means a totally different thing, there "líður" means "float", as in "You float/progress onwards", "Þér líður áfram" would be grammatically incorrect. "Þú líður" is grammtically correct, and indicates "You progress/float". Seems unnecessarily complex but its the use of "þú/þér" that changes the use of "líður".

  • @theundeh Thanks, I was unaware of the second use of líður. :)

  • @KarenRei ... although it still doesn't explain why so few hits for þu liður... I guess it's just a rarer usage. Samt, ég held enn að fólk heyra það sem þau vilja ;)

  • @SexayyCookies I watched it because a friend of mine liked it and linked it, I watched all of it because I wanted to give it a fair chance, and I commented on it saying I didn't like it because the world needs to know that the reality is that people like different things. If I'm not allowed to say that I dislike a song, no one should be allowed saying they like it, and we can just remove the like and dislike buttons all together. I don't mind being bitched at and I definately will bitch back.

  • increible sigur ros, como coño hacen estas canciones? son alegres, tristes, felicdad, tristeza... es acojonante. GENIALES SUBLIMES

  • One day i ll go to Iceland.I want to stand for a while nearby a cliff in Hornberg in the Northeast part of the country, watch the cold sea of Greenland expanding in front of me and listen to this masterpiece...

  • This song is ME. Can't explain this.

  • This is such a beautiful song and the vidio is so sad and touching <3

  • @SexayyCookies I'm going to say this to you and not to the other guy because he doesn't know what he's talking about - while you do. If I by any chance don't like this video, am I free to express that? Do I have to like it to watch it? Also, judging from your other comment, you really need to learn how to use commas better, and structure arguments so that they can be clearly understood. Other than that: You do have some valid points, but on the nets, it's better to keep them to yourself. Trolol.

  • oddio sto pezzo

  • mmmmmmmmm Tentacle monster...but no rape?

  • This is the song I want to die to. Seriously, if I'm drowning or something, I want a car to drive to the scene with this playing on their sound system. If I'm in the hospital about to die, I want this song to play over the loudspeaker. It is a fucking masterpiece :)

  • @kcool134

  • great song

  • This is, in my opinion, their best song. It pulls emotions from your soul that try to hide. it makes you grapple with them and allows your to understand yourself in a more complete manner. Well at least for me anyway. Great song and Vid

  • Everytime I listen to this song I cry and feel sad, lonely and kind of longing ...

Sometimes I have even suicidal ideation.

Song which mirrors so many emotions must be art.

  • @WannabeBliss While that better not be the criteria for art, yes. This could be art.
