I loved the living crap out of this game, but I could not finish it. I really enjoyed the quirky storyline, graphics, bizarre attacks, and the prinnies. But I simply could not finish it! I think the biggest reason, is because you really have to be reaaaaallly strategically-minded, and I am more of a hack-and-slash player. Now with all that said, I am going to buy the DS version of this, and I am still going to buy 3.

I just started playing this game on PS2 yesterday. It seems pretty damn good, but DAMN, the graphics take some getting used to. I knew it was going to be pixel-y and blocky, but I didn't expect the blurriness on a 16:9 TV.

@SnapSunny THATS TRUE!!! if you set the game to be more blurry it hurts your eyes in the end. better to play it sharp and pixelated. The best way to play disgaea 3 is on a smaller screen or sdtv. but then THE NUMBERS ARE HARD TO SEE.

@Xexal95 it is too hard to explain in a comment, you are better off reading a review, or watching any trailers you can find for the game. However, I will say it has ALOT of game mechanics and replay value, max lvl 9999, I'm pretty sure that Reincarnation is in this game just like 2 and 3(haven't played this one myself though), sum of the mechanics in 2 include the item world, felonies, New Game+, etc. I say this becuz alot of the mechanics from 2 carried off to 3, so I'm guessing it did the same

Funny story, I actually bought this game purely by luck! I found it on a game store and looked at the "levels until 9999!" comment on the back. I like sprite-like games, so I decided to give it a try, thinking I would play it for an hour or two before getting bored with it.

Needless to say I was stunned by how addicting it was and how funny it was as well. Now I'm hoping to get Disgaea 4 whenever it comes to my country xD

Atlus published Disgaea: Hour of Darkness in the USA. The game was developed by Nippon Ichi Software. This game also has been published again as Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness in the USA, but for the PSP this time by NIS America (Nippon Ichi Software in the USA).

Still, props to Atlus for bringing the game to us the first time.

@Mateko77 no they din't. the game is made by nippon ichi software (nis). it writed on the tittle screen. atlus usa mostly do translation. the only games i know who are made by atlus jp are the shin megami tensei (after they buyed it, before the serie was megemi tensei, atlus renamed it) and trauma center. most of altus jp game are not released in america.

It's a SRPG, yeah. It's generally easier, since it promotes powerlevelling(Final Boss caps out around level 120, Max Level is 9999) and is generally about having fun seeing how high numbers can go. It's also fairly simple compared to games like FFT.
