  • Awesome video!!!! was wondering.... how deep do u fish this time of year on a lake like that? I have a local lake that i love to use the wacky rig on but havent fished there in the winter.

  • @bassinmissouri Thanks for watching; much appreciated. Normally I don't fish a small (1-2 acre) pond this time of year (this vid was in early November). However, I can't say you won't catch fish on a wacky rig in your lake so give it a try. You might be the first to put up a real winter wacky video (with water temps in the 40's).

  • GREAT VIDEO! Thank Wacky Rig was going to work!

  • @vweeks181 Many thanks! It was a lot of fun for sure.

  • nice outing Don - really nice fish - 2 thumbs up!!

  • @bloodknot101 Thanks, Skip. The "companion piece" to this fishing trip will knock your socks off. I was also filming a featurette on Buzz the Mouse. It will be out fairly soon. Maybe in IMAX; not sure........:)

  • @Winkiedoodles i look forward to the companion video - also planning to get one of your mice topwaters too. fishermen tend to trust other fishermen and when we see something working for another guy like ourselves we are more likely to order it. IMAX - hilarious - you go Don.. I mean... punk!

  • now thats whacky, might need to try them in lil ol New Zealand :-)

  • @FishinNelson Have you heard of the wacky style of fishing in New Zealand? It has been around for quite a while and I'm glad that the folks at K&J decided to invent a tool to address some of the issues the average fisherman has to address when using this style. It is also fun; give it a try!

  • Nice video, can't beat the way that works, great results. Take care and have a great day.

  • @ewtoutdoors Thanks! The results were very, very good for such a small pond and half the time I was there I was fishing a different lure for a separate featurette. Thanks, and you have a great day as well.

  • would you just look at it

  • @iDirtyDan A very nicely designed and engineered tool for a different fishing technique. Thanks for commenting!

  • Senkos are GREAT lures for introducing someone to fishing - bass just EAT EM UP!!!! There were some days when I caught fish on nothing but the Senko(or some other brand's version - I like the Strike King Shim-E-Stick) all day long...

  • @tony93666 Hey, Tony, right on! I didn't feature it, but I did really good on a Shimmy Stick (Bass Pro model) on this trip, too. They are so flexible they drive the fish crazy. I'm going to build up my stick worm collection at Bass Pro this afternoon!

  • Nice demo!! I guess it works! : )

  • @Traveler2112 Amen, Bo. I'm personally very glad to have followed my instincts on this wacky rigging trail. There's a lot of technifques out there and this is one that I've been kinda neglecting. I can see in my mind's eye LOTS of places I've fished where it wouild have been preferrable to do the wacky thing rather than or in addition to what I was doing. That's why they make gas stations, I guess, so I can go back and fish those ponds!

  • nice

  • @Maddawgbaits thanx it was a sweet pond with a lot of bass

  • I aready did join the club! hahaha

  • @tscr6 Super duper! I'm sure we have a lot of other club members out there being totally Wacky!

  • wow man! you made a killing!!! great job!!!!!!

  • @socalbassboy Good to hear from you SoCal! Hey, those guys on Lopez Lake are tearing them up; are you anywhere near there? Tight lines and stay Wacky!

  • @Winkiedoodles naa lopez is a little out of my reach

  • I love wacky rigged senkos. Probably my all time favorite way to fish. What pound test do you use?

  • @virginiabassin You are light years ahead of me. My Senko-style lure collection hasn't seen much action until recently because of fishing Texas rigged worms, jigs and all that sort of thing. I stumbled across this RIG'R tool and thought it was a cool invention and a fun technique. I haven't been disappointed, and just using it has kinda "forced" me to use wacky style where I would have otherwise thrown a Texas rig. I think the rod and reel I used in this vid has either 10 or 12 lb test. .

  • Man! Nice fishing! i ought to try that out sometime, probably next season its cold here now but i have a few spots exactly like that! Nice video, always entertain!

  • @dennislogston Thanks, Dennis. The water was quite chilly; glad I had insulated waders. A lot of folks (myself included for many years) put our fishing tackle away in Oct and Nov. If you can "gear up" for colder temps you should try some late season fishing sometime. It can really be good; and, besides, football is over now right? How'd your team do?

  • @Winkiedoodles I have been going out about everyday but cant get anything, and we already put the boats up for the season so that doesn't help. and for football we got into playoffs and lost the first round, our quarterback broke his leg the game before and we had about 6 other important players out.but it doesn't matter that football is over because i already have basketball practice everyday already, got less than a week break! i can't wait till track in spring though, i dont run track.

  • @dennislogston Well, don't worry. Your bass will be there, healthy and hungry, come spring time. Congrats for making the district playoffs and best of luck in basketball. Do well with your classes and don't forget to capitalize "I"!

  • @Winkiedoodles Thanks! and i will have a TON of videos start spring because ill have a ton of extra time on my hands and all ill be doing is fishing! and i type most of the reports and what not in school that count. Also thanks for the wishes! Great video!

  • Great vid and some really nice bass Don! Boy I'd love to fish that lil hony hole you got there Bub, looks like an awesome place.

  • @TeamBASS2000 Thanks, Mark. I don't know about Ohio, but I've fished lots of Missouri Conservation Department Area ponds with standing trees (mostly cedars) like this. And, Buddy, there are some dandy ponds in the county we lived in before moving to Springfield. My wife doesn't know it yet, but I'm saving my pennies for a little visit back to the 'old stomping grounds' to put all this high-speed knowledge I've gained in the past 12 years to work. I feel kinda sorry for the bass!

  • You should try flickshaking. Jackal created a worm specifically for it, and it works great for finicky bass. Just think of wacky rigging, with a smaller worm and weighted hook.

  • @GameFishermen Very cool, and thanks. I have a variety of Jackall soft plastics including the I-Shad and Cross tail Shad. Good stuff. I'm familiar with the Flick Shake worm you are talking about and also the weighted hooks. I went weightless today because the pond wasn't very deep and they were on the slow-fall pattern. Although I didn't feature it, I also used a Bass Pro "shimmy stick" (smaller and super flexible like the Flick Shake) and it worked great. Tight lines and stay Wacky!

  • what color senko was that?

  • @theBassmastrr98 That is a very good question. I bought those at Bass Pro (on sale at the catalogue outlet if I recall) some time ago and just threw them in with a bunch of other Senko-style stuff. There's no tag on it, but the color is sort of a dark blue-gray with blue and black flecks. Since I thought they were just junky, I started out using them (about a month ago) and lo and behold the bass love the darn things. The bass also liked the BPS shimmy stick in green pumpkin.

  • Don u make it look simple :) What fun day, & with a sponsor !

  • @luv4zzs Awwww, thanks! It actually was rather simple (except for fighting the wind sometimes) since the little stick-style worms I was using did the magic. Thanks for watching and best wishes!

  • I think you worked out a deal with one or two bass to keep hitting your wacky rigging. LOL Looks like you had a very fun day! How many hours (or minutes lol) were you out there?

  • @chihuahuabulldog Ann, as hard as this is to do, I humbly confess that I don't normally catch that many 2+ lb bass in one session. What's is really interesting is that I fished that pond for about 5 1/2 hours (it is about 100 miles from home). However, half the time I was using other lures since I was simultaneously doing another featurette on Buzz the Mouse. You'll be amazed at that one, too (and will have to wait patiently for it's release)!

  • @Winkiedoodles OK I'll wait, but I don't know about being patient!

  • Awesome video keep it up

  • @FishingTheBackwoods Thanks a lot and best wishes to you!

  • Great video, how many baits did you go through? This answer will determine my purchase of the wacky rigger

  • @pelletgun12

i have something similar and it will save you a whole bunch of money especially if you buy those high priced senkos, usually you'll lose the worm in a couple of catches but when you use an oring it'll sometimes last a whole day on one worm

  • @MzAlmondEyes Thanks for your additional comments! This technique does allow you to hold onto and re-use a stick worm for a very long time (when I remember to re-tie line weakened by logs and limbs!).

  • @pelletgun12 Thanks, Pellet. Whether or not you get one of these nifty devices is totally up to you (of course). However, to answer your question, I'd estimate I lost or destroyed at least three worms in around 2.5 hours of wacky fishing. That would amount to around 50 cents since I bought those BPS stick baits in the sale bin. Take care; we have some of your nice cold weather at the moment!

  • @Winkiedoodles Only three worms in about 2.5 hours. Not bad i like to use gary yamamot senkos alot but as we all know their not very durable and for 7 dolars a pack i could save some serious cash, as always great video and good luck out their.

  • @pelletgun12 Two of the worms lost were "break offs" from big bass and line that I should have re-tied because of abrasions from the tree limbs. One worm was lost because I was using the wrong size "O" ring (forgot to bring the smaller rings). I don't plan to purchase any Yamamoto Senkos. Instead, I added a a poound of generics (around 50 very nice ones in various colors) from Bass Pro Shops for $5.00. That's one of the advantages of living in Springfield I guess! Best wishes.

  • @Winkiedoodles I fish and hunt i have never been to a bass pro or cabelas. It's even disapointing to say

  • @pelletgun12 Don't worry. You have your entire life to donate most of your earnings to tackle stores!

  • I GOT THE POWERRR! haha. i think ill buy one of these things! this vid just got me in the mood to do some wacky riggin! =]

    -Adam

  • @NWanglerz Thanks, Adam. My interest in the wacky style has certainly been re-kindled. Now I have something for my stick worm collection to do! Best wishes. - Don

  • Nice Vid! Keep It Up!! K&J is Great!

  • @ReelingItupFishing Thank you! Best fun I've ever had Wacky Rigging. I'm going go have to re-visit some of my old 'haunts" with standing trees like this and give it a whirl!
