You can buy this movie on DVD but it's on one of the Wizard of Oz DVD's. The Dreamer of Oz is in the special features on the Wizard of Oz DVD but the pic quality is bad. It's still the full movie though. It's been out in stores but I think it's only out for a limited time.
It's so awesome that this movie was a special feature on the newest release of the 1939 movie. I had been looking for this movie for years. Saw it when it came on TV when I was 4 in 1990.
@gliterpurse45 -- I borrow lots of DVDs from my public library. On thursday i got the wizard of oz -- 2 disc 70th anniversary edition isbn # 1 4198 8638 X
and the other number under the bar code is 8 83929 08733 4
On the second disc is the movie you are looking for the dreamer of oz with john ritter and annette o'toole. hope this helps
I just uploaded two small parts of this movie -I didn't use the title as I don't know what is happening with the copyright (so I cannot upload the whole thing) but there are a couple of segments under my videos.
Many liberties were taken with the television movie: the real Dorothy was still a baby when she died, but they made her a little older to give her more of a role. The publishing houses rejection of the story, first titled "The City of Emeralds", came by mail and not in person at their offices.
I love how the promos, sponsers, and commercial breaks are included here. ; )
i saw this movie when i was 11 and never forgot about it i waited a month to see then I fall a sleep in the middle of it and have been kicking myself since i never saw it and still want to see it no one i tell about it even remembers hearing it
Ok so i have this Movie but i dont have a little part of the Beginning ... i would post it but i dont know how, if anyone would want to see it and show me how just AIM me ( Heartbrokenluv17 )
Great movie! I've never seen this commercial, though. I originally recorded this when it aired back in '94 on my VCR. I started recording from the scene when John and Annette's characters were on the porch as he described his magical land. I recently got it again on DVD from someone who also recorded it off Lifetime channel. A couple short scenes were missing, but it had an extended scene not on my copy where they think of the name "The Wizard of Oz".
i woke up one night with this in my head. last time i saw this was wen i was 4, brings back gud memories. thanks for putting it up :) please put more up. yay i got a utube acount!
Professor Video does have it (I just got an e-mail from them today) for $10 (S&H inc). So does supperhappyfun dot com. I got mine from SHF. It has "Dreamer of Oz" and "Lost in Oz" for $13. Shipping is about $3 more. It is a little artifact-y, but watchable. The story itself is charming.
If you do, let me know. I will be standing in line the day that park opens. BTW, I MAY (big MAY) be getting a copy of this show. e-mail me at j p mcdunn at a o l dot com
there isnt a legit dvd copy of this movie, pewople have to get a vhs to dvd rip or a vhs recording from 16 years ago, why NBC has not put this movie on dvd is beyond me, as a tribute to the story of Frank Baum and to John Ritter, they should market this masterpiece.
Yes, I do. I got mine from supperhappyfun dot com. It is okay - a little artifact-y, but watchable. Professor Video has it, too (google Professor Video and it will come up). He seems like a good guy, but I can't speak for his products or delivery.
Good luck as you travel down the Yellow Brick Road :-)

Dear Jal, It's true that tv movie bio's take liberties with the facts
about a famous person's life.Frank Baum acted and sang
in his stage shows.
