  • I saw this tour too...actually, I saw VH with Dave 6 times total... Ice Cream Man was done every time. The fourth time I saw them, Eddie kissed my hand at the end of the song.

  • I saw this tour...I doubt if any of the bigger acts they went out with wanted these boys in front of them for long...this was 1978, after all....nobody had heard anything like this before

  • I saw this tour. They blew Sabbath off the stage.

  • nice pic. thumbs up.

  • people please, stop bitchin' around which band is better, or the Zeps or VH, both bands are classic hard rock bands

  • fuck dave can actully sing here lol!

  • 4 non blonds sing this song pretty good

  • No one could touch them here ! They were so powerful ! This album is guaranteed to melt your speakers in your vehicle !

  • does he use a bit of the ice cream man solo in the second solo? great stuff, great

  • @EdwardVanHalen Yes, he does. And a lot of never heard before licks too. Eddie is the man.

  • @EdwardVanHalen Yes, he uses the beginning of the ice cream man solo in the second solo here.

  • god the opening riff still rips my head completely off.

  • Eddie was the last guitarist to have a huge influence on rock and guitar! many have tried to imitate but will never duplicate what he did!!!

  • That was fuckin KILLER!!!

  • 1st four albums are unstoppable...after that well it gets a little sad

  • @krevice Diver Down was still pretty good I thought :/

  • They could really pull it off live back then, couldn't they?

  • @NYVoice No band was like them live, The Power upon you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. From my experience in videos------------ never was there........ so sad! I need not tell yo.. they and still I hope kick thy ass VH 70s ---No power like them! Rochester, NY is looking for a reunion with them-- sold out I'm sure

    !

  • Two of my favorite bands. How can you compare?

  • Where is the rest of the show? I am only finding the first 6 songs?

  • @garbeaj they were the opening act for sabbath, methinks

  • @garbeaj oh i'm retarded it says 11 parts. no worries

  • @YummyBananaFish So I wonder where the rest of the show is?

  • @garbeaj dude i have the uk invasion album! It has the shows from manchester, ipswich, hanley, and bristol all from 1978! Should I upload it?

  • @AtomicNog Why yes...yes you should:)

  • @garbeaj Can you tell me how?

  • @AtomicNog I use Windows Live Movie Maker to open the audio file and add pictures from your hard drive to create a video... Movie Maker has a tab to upload to YouTube...or you can follow the instructions on YouTube...

  • @garbeaj ok Illrty to do that! I just saw sme of your videos and there great!

  • @AtomicNog Thanks!

  • Van Halen always had the best guitar tone.

  • I saw them on the Sabbath tour. Both bands kicked ass and were well worth the price of admission. Makes no sense blabbing a bunch asinine BS about who's better than who.

  • Great place for a VIDEO!

  • It's quite awesome that this pops up in

conjunction with a search for Dr. Rockso!

  • To settle the Van Halen Led Zep discussion

    DAVID LEE ROTH

    nuff said

  • I love these older Van Halen songs. So raw and full of power! Check out the demo version of House of Pain. Not at all like the album version, it's simply amazing.

  • Eddie Van Halen is the most creative guitar player of the album rock era. Page is close, and so is Zappa, but Ed was just ridiculously creative on the first 2 or 3 Van Halen albums.

  • Holy shit...Ed was ON! Total command of the instrument and super fluid runs...G'damn!! --none better

  • Van Halen was one of the few bands that sounded just as good if not better live than on record

  • let see the truth. its all apples and oranges

  • LADY CACA AND JUSTIN WEINER KILLED MUSIC THIS IS REAL MUSICIANSHIP!!!

  • I can see Gene Simmons on that fateful night he discovered them saying to himself "these guys are going to take over the world" after hearing this song. Please check out my cover version of this song, if you are a guitar player :)

    =VH= forever!

  • Thought this would sound heavier. Watching footage of zeppelin blows this crap away.

  • @zeecezzzy last time i checked this aint zeppelin its the MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!!

  • @zeecezzzy Led Zepplin comes nowhere near Van Halen.

  • @RectumPilum nor do they want to. Zeppelin is so much cooler than this party band its ridiculous.

  • You really can't compare a blues metal band from England to a relentless hard rocking band from California. Both singers have a different vibe, Page and Eddie are way different in styles (Eddie is actually more accurate and less choppy then Jimmy) and VH has one thing Zep doesn't have-Michael Anthony! His bass and background vocals were quite the driving force. Page and Jones weren't so hot on vocals.

  • @NYVoice

Uh, you can barely even hear Michael's bass in most VH songs.

  • You mean on these live tracks only? It IS a little thin. But Eddie said in interviews HE could never hear Mike's bass on stage. His ears handle a certain frequency perhaps. All I know is I and millions of others heard it loud and clear. His vocals? They speak for itself.

  • @cptnoremac Weird. I can hear it fine.

  • @NYVoice Jones was a better bass player than micheal anthony. And bonham was by far the superior drummer of the two groups. Jones and bonham grooved a lot better than van halen's rhythm section. Eddie van halen is a great guitar player but as a band van halen doesnt compare to zeppelin. Besides that robert plant inspired all rock singers after him. He was the first with the really high vocals cutting through heavy guitar. Originators are always better than what follows them.

  • @zeecezzzy That's true. Led Zeppelin did start off "Rock", and they are creators. But you have to say Van Halen is one of the most influential and succefull bands in Rock History, hands down. They are actually 1 of 6 bands to have 2 Albums go Diamond. and set a record of being the highest paid band in history.. bringing in 1 Million dollars in one night.

  • @zeecezzzy Although John Bonham is the legendary drummer of the two, I wouldn't say that he is better. Even though Alex took some influence from Bonham, he could still do things that Bonham couldn't. They are both unique in their own way which is kind of hard to compare but, I can see what you mean.

  • @zeecezzzy Different bands - Zeppelin never did fast shuffles in this vein. I prefer Alex's drumming to Bonhams. Bonham plays too straight. Alex does more offbeat stuff. His main influence was Baker not Bonham. You can hear the influence more clearly in later stuff. You perhaps want to listen to some tracks that influenced Zep before you claim they were vastly more "original" than VH, older bands tend to get away with it cause kids don't listen to blues. All music is somewhat derivative.

  • @fatShowPony Yes this is true but I would say in general Zeppelin were way more versatile. A lot of their music is blues based but listen to albums like zeppelin 3 and you see that they also were able to pull off folk and later they show a middle eastern influence in their music. VH is more just a straight rock pop band in my opinion. Jimmy page didn't play as fast as Eddie but he played a more musical style of guitar that i prefer and Bonham did way more with a smaller drum set.

  • @zeecezzzy i don't think pagey's anymore or less verstile than ed, but for someone who likes both bands i really can't say ones better then the other.

  • @zeecezzzy HAHAHAHAHAHAH SHOW ME ONE!!! ZEP BLOWS ASS LIVE....ALL STUDIO...

  • You had to have heard this song and the rest of Van Halen 1 back in 1978 to realize how amazing this band was.Eddie was the man---he came out of nowhere, and he blew every other guitarist out of the water. He was so damn sharp and innovative back then. It breaks my heart to see what he's become now. Ed,whatever demons are bugging you,I hope you can get over them once and for all---STOP DRINKIN BRO!!!!!!

  • now ive seen pretty clear video footage of sabbath during this very tour, just type in black sabbath 1978 and there london performance will pop up, but how is there no fucking van halen footage? it pisses me off, considering van halen shitted on sabbath during this tour wtf why no footage :(

  • @VanHalenWorshiper I bet you Toni got rid of any videos from VH after they smoked them off the stage. My guess is also that since they were a new band they didn't have the cash for the video crew and they probably figured they could always video some other time. I don't think video was too important to them at the time. Remember they were blowin' everyone away at that time. They could probably careless about getting filmed and probably didn't even want to. That's my take on that.

  • @orlandosierra Yeah, it was 1978, nobody cared about video.

  • Don't you think he is shot down for being a God? I was a nurse God, once and I was.

  • That picture is sickkk.

  • cheese... listen to Van Halen I ....no disrespect... but he played the same lick so many times... and thru the rest of the albums... I was there and listening... srs84

  • eddie van halen es un maestro es el mas cabron de todos viva eddie van halen el mejor sin duda

  • I love the background vox on this. First time you can REALLY hear Eddie's voice. Really nice.

  • Hi Mustardeth, whats the exact date of this show?

  • edward and eddy are 2 dutch guys from holland uit nijmegen wel te verstaan.

  • edward and eddy are the same person

  • @ Caiogalo10 ja youre rechts, ik bedoel Alex en Eddy.

  • van halen were americas premier hard rock band...b4 them it grand funk railroad n' black oak arkansas...so glad i got see all 3 when they was burnin' like a flame...the 70s and 80s were an era in american rock that will never be recaptured...thank god 4 youtube!!!

  • Holy shit. Absolutely amazing audio quality. Thanks for making my day just that much better!

  • first album he was hitting notes he never hit since, he wasnt just playing chops and runs here like he later began getting stuck on, he bent the rules better than anybody

  • i saw them in indianapolis like a year or two ago and it was the best concert i ever been to, and ive seen some bad ass concerts (aerosmith/motely crue/kiss/ lynyrd skynyrd) you get my point

  • man they were kicking ass and taking names back then

  • Van Halen owes a lot to their sound due to the backing vocals of M.A and big bass sound,he may not be the fastest or most fluent but he does have a knack for an open big sound and very good rhythm.

  • Michael Anthony killer high vocals, scorching Eddie, Dave up front, n Alex holding it all together!

  • No doubt! Michael was like an air raid siren..he can pluck a mean bass too!

  • Sabbath dared to even go onstage after this???

  • @jonsilence lol I woulda considered leaving!

  • Yes and believe me...they got blown off it. I saw them on that first tour. VH were untouchable.

  • Same here, 1st concert, VH opening up and blowing away BS.

  • @jonsilence

lol are you fucking kidding me

    iommi>>>>>>> halen

    lmfao

  • @xTheFormlessOneIGF1 If u ask Toni Iommi who's better he'll say Edward Van Halen unless he's delusional.

  • @theShowStopper321 no he's actually said it. lol.

  • @jonsilence excuse me?! you want to reword that?

  • @jonsilence Thats what im sayin, no band could match Van Halen. They would be insane to go up against them.

  • @jonsilence lol Sabbath were like k that was fun now lets show em hoe legends do it

  • @upsetMISFIT that ain't what Ozzy has said in countless interviews - "Blew us off the stage every night" were his words...

  • @jonsilence i love sabbath but i do agree with you.

  • @jonsilence yeah. sabbaths got nothing on van halen

  • hello Ipswich!! Hahaha

  • well said well said Thumbs up on that amazing comment

  • That is DEEP!!!!

  • @vanhalenkid yeah, i guess when everyone around you treats you like a god, you start to believe you really are one and fire anyone who may even give the appearance to disagree.

  • @vanhalenkid Very well said!!! I agree! Old VH forever

  • @vanhalenkid Like.

  • @vanhalenkid Show Business kill the soul, sad but true!

  • @vanhalenkid when did he say the fans were undeserving? Thats pretty asshole-ish

  • @theShowStopper321 in the guitar world with tony iommi and him on the cover

  • @vanhalenkid what was the context of the comment? I think i might remember that

  • Well said!!

  • I have a whole lotta boots from back in the day and I must say the quality on this one is really good! Thanks for posting!

  • Classic and bombastic!

  • hardest van riff

    the very intro one

he doesn't even nail it anymore IMO

  • another tough one is hang em high

  • they were so strong this band at one time, hagar is far from a bad singer,i even liked gary, some songs from 3 werny great but alot of people piss on the album when it wasnt bad at all

  • i love the riff at 1:40

  • i like roths songs better, but sammy sounds so much better

  • Hagar is shit and styleless, Cabo wabo my ass, ROTH RULEZ

  • Hagar has more range and more endurance, but Dave's style is definitely cooler...

  • Comment removed

  • The song is great, the solo is unbelievable. I love them, EVH has made me picked up a guitar.

  • Same!!! This song and Ice Cream Man, and of course Eruption did it for me.

  • They were metal back in the day.

  • @crimchessie They're still Metal bro, always will be.

  • damn this was when dave actually used to sing the songs....instead of later on when he just pretended to be hammered and occasionally got a word or two right...this is awesome.

  • Heeeelllo, Ipswich!

  • this was the tour that blew black sabbath off the stage...van halen was the opening act

  • bad ass solo.

  • Simply one of the best DLR era Van Halen songs
