Oh Yes we can Call out to the Prophet sallalla ho alai he wa sallam amd ask help In an Authentic Hadith The Prophet sallalla ho alai he wa sallam taught the Sahabi to do so .. by the words "YA Muhammed ini Atawajja ho Baeka Ila Rabbi hi Fi Hajati HAzehi." the dua was used by the Ashabs even after the Prophet entered the hereafter and Allahmdulillah is still used.

call out to the prophet and ask for help thats exactly what we do when we pray to Allah. we've been taught to have no medium between ourselves and Allah. Ive been taught to pray to Allah/ask him for help and him only. i just cannot accept the idea of asking anyone but Allah for help, dead or alive, even if it is our beloved prophet muhammad salalahu alayhi wasalam. im not hating on sami yusuf or nasheeds or music or whatever, i just think we should be a little more careful =\

i fear shirk, and wouldnt want none of my muslim brothers and sisters to partake in it either. THAT is simply my issue. i trust and follow the teachings of the prophet but they can be mistranslated and taken out of context and fabricated so i prefer to be a bit more careful. as we do when following Allahs word in the quran - which i prioritise more. ive learnt that yes perhaps we CAN say 'ya rasulullah' but i cant get we can pray to him/ask for help as we do with Allah =\ sorry
