What so great? The Toyota car can kill you in spilt second, and the Shinkasen cost so much and so long to build, now the Chinese train overtake them in all aspects : greater speed, lower cost, new technology, handsome look, lower price in ticket and greater comfort.And the Chinese rocket shoot up safely and more powerful, the Japanese are losing out in frontier technology, now the fastest computer is from China too!

The JR Series 500 Shinkansen is among my favourite Shinkansen trains that is currently in service in Japan along with the JR Series 700. The only high speed electric trains we have near where I live are the former Intercity 225's which can do a top speed of 140mph (225km) but they are limited to 125mph (201km) due to the standard track work on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) they run on in the UK.

amtrak's rail is not designed for high speed trains, they'd derail due to mechanical failure of the track. plus amtrak's signaling system is embarrassingly outdated, it would not be able to handle a high speed system like this. drivers would be in a world of hurt trying to avoid head on collisions or rear ending accidents with trains pulled into stations.

As far as I know, Japans Railways are all private companies, thats why you have differences such as JR JR East etc...

Government operated (or at least subsidized) have the risk of ending up like Amtrak :-S *shudder*

The problem is not the government. It's the republicans who always blocked the spending for or modernizing Amtrak. It's like them opposing spending money on higher education. As long as the there is a republican party and it's stone age ideologies, we in the USA will be deprived of modern trains like this. Good luck blaming it on government. Japan as the best railway by far in the world. It's a shame the goverment here in the United Kingdom sold off the railway to private companies, Now trains run late, brake down or fail to turn up at all.

Or something as gone wrong with the track which is owned by another company that can't maintain it to high standard.

Hitachi Class 395 was exported to United Kingdom from Japan. I wish many problems of the railway in United Kingdom will be solved, and United Kingdom catches up the pride and the confidence as the country of railway origin (birthplace), in the wake of the London Olympic Games.

コメント有難うございます。500系V編成は０系のダイヤで走る­ので当面は最高速度220㎞/hではなかったでしょうか？。しか­しダイヤ改正で速度アップされることは間違いないようです。九州­新幹線が新大阪まで走る頃には100系は消え、レールスターは格­下げされて500系V編成と同じくこだまとなり、こだまの最高速­度は270～285km/hに引き上げられると思います。

The performance is the same as current 500 Nozomi of 16 cars. However, it provisionally runs speed 220 km/h now because it is operated with railway system of Kodama. It seem to run in more than 270km/h maximum speed after having changed railway system of Kodama in the near future.

This is a lovely fast train. In April '06 I went in a Shinkansen 700, next time it has to be a Shinkansen 500.
