The emotion evoked from graduation is something that's deterred me from teaching.. but I don't think I can ignore the calling, even if I cry like a baby in front of everyone.
thanks for uploading ,,aaa m i spent 7 years in japan and now im gratuated from high school now ..japanese graduation is a kind of different from western sides .. our graduation was totaly same type place like in this vid but chair was big lol. it reminds me high school my memories.
My niece graduated last year from 6th grade and now goes to the Jr./Sr. High school, 7th thru 12th all in one building. Her graduation was different, they let them pick a theme and it was Hippie week..it was different.
Some homeroom teachers here, at both elementary and Jr High level, become very involved in their students' lives - so you'll see them crying at graduation. And for me it's a little different, since I've known the kids for so long - longer than all of their other teachers since I straddle two schools.
In 6th grade we had our graduation from elementary school to the new junior high building. We had to sing and perform and then got our diplomas, and I remember we all brought silly string and got the principal and teachers at the end.
if I had been in your place I couldnt have done this video. With that sad music I had been crying all the ceremony xDD. Dude I only can imagine how difficult was for you to be in that graduation ceremony.
My school had grades from 1 to 12th so i was in the same school with the same students for every single grade. It was great since we formed a strong connection with each other.
I hope you stay teaching in Japan. You always looked like you enjoyed it, plus we've enjoyed watching your video's. Hope to see more from you.
At my school in Washington we changed schools but never had a graduation ceremony. I hear that Japanese are only required by law to go to school until they graduate junior high, so it would seem to make more sense to have a ceremony in that instance.
Changing schools from 6th to 7th grade is a loaded question asking me because I grew up a military brat. I changed schools almost every year.. lol Sometimes in the middle of the year.
We only have uni graduation. We don't have graduation at elementary and since we don't seperate jnr and snr high there isn't anything for jnr (after 6th grade we spend 7th-13th grade normally in one secondary school). Sometimes there are muck up days at the end of the 11th grade (end of compulsory ed) and 13th grade (end of higher ed) and the 13th will normally have a ball although many don't go, but thats about it.
It must be very emotional. My friends who are teaching in Japan cry every time their students graduate. In NYC we graduated elementary school in 5th grade and then moved to junior high school for 6th grade to 8th grade. The graduation ceremony for my school was pretty big because there were like 100 5th graders graduating.
I live in Florida, USA so these two questions are easy.
Did I change school? No, in Florida 6th and 7th grade, along with 8th grade, are all at the same school.
Did I have a graduation ceremony? Again, going from 6th to 7th grade there was no ceremony. However, I had a ceremony going from 5th-6th grade (Elementary to Middle) and di change schools.
When i was in school here in Georgia. Elementary school went from from K-6 grade, Middle school (Junior High) 7-8 grade and High school was 9-12. When I changed schools from elementary school to middle school there no special graduation ceremony or anything. just a school wide awards ceremony. But things have changed since I graduated high school. Now Elementary is K-5 and Middle school now is 6-8. BTW there was also no graduation ceremony when I finished middle school either.
in my little hometown of Lloydminster Ab. Canada elementary school ran from K-7, then the kids go straight into "highschool"... grades 8-12 are all in the same building, but of course the content of the classes are all different. Regardless.. there is no "junior highschool" in my hometown.. and we didn't even get a graduation ceremony when we did switch schools... what a rip off! LOL
To answer your question, I grew up in a small town (8k ppl) and our 6,7,8 grades are considered junior high. I did have a small graduation ceremony at the end of my 5th grade year, so after elementary school. Very small class as we have 3 elem. schools, about 30-40 students for my ceremony
Hmm, I live in a town ot 6k people (tops). I had my name said, principal gave me diploma and etc.
And since there is only one district..I knew the vast majority of the people from Kindergarten to graduation from high school, sure some people moved along the way and some others moved in too..but I knew every single person in my class for several years my graduating year.
My school runs a bit different, Elementary school ended in 5th grade for me. And yes, when I moved from 5th to 6th, I did have a graduation ceremony, a total of, I believe, 200-400 students went to the graduation. It starts out with 3 students that won for best written speeches, then the band plays whatever they want. Mostly just "Pomp and Circumstances" of course, then we walked to get our diplomas. Which raises the question, Does Japan's schools play the piece too?
some schools do play it while the graduates file past the kocho sensei to get their diplomas. And I once heard it as the kids filed in to take their seats, but at this graduation at an elementary school, they didn't use it.
That auditorium and music reminded of Angel Beats.

One thing I didn't wonder as a student but now I do is what do teachers feel staying or being left behind at the school every year.

That's the thing I fear most about joing JET is having to say goodbye at the end.
TheWhitey 2 years ago
yeah - it's never fun, but one way to think about it is that it will only be sad if you had a great time while you were a JET, so it'll be worth it.
