  • Ernie Thank you ! What kind of wood do you use for this nunchaku ?

  • @EliottLadesch I used white oak.

  • @erniesbudolab Oké, so I will use this too !

  • To be hit in the solar plexus feels!

  • bruce lee is much faster hehe ;)

  • @bobaslo Yes, because they sped up the film. And, I wasn't trying to be fast in this demo.

  • @erniesbudolab Actually, they had to slow down the film so you could still kinda see it.

  • @erniesbudolab if i'm correct, they never sped up any of bruce lee's films, but rather, they had to slow it down. i'm not trying to put you down, i'm just pointing out that i don't they sped up any of his films, but all your videos are great

  • @joeyhoang85 OK, I was trying to save space. But, on set, the crew asked Bruce to slow down his movements because after developing film, the speed at which they were filming the action sequences were coming out too blurry. The fact that they weren't filming at 24 fps, and that the editor would skip frames to make a fight sequence fit into an allotted time and make the scene flow better IS what I meant by the film being "sped up." I've got a degree in broadcasting. I know altered speed.

  • ernie this was badass

  • @MikeWoahMusic Thanks! Much appreciated.

  • Dude can you do a tutorial on making one of those target stands?

  • @felixjblues They are very easy to make. Sure. Stay tuned.

  • nice dummy

  • nice nunchaku build guide and cool practice on the strikes ;)

  • you are good with them :D...I just want to ask will you make another nunchaku??? :)

and what you think about metal nunchaku and that they can get i to ONE and be like bats??

  • I do plan on making one more type of nunchaku, then I'm moving on to making other weapons. As for metal nunchaku, I'm not a big fan of them. They are noisey, and if made of aluminum too light and can't take much impact.

  • I'd agree with you on the aluminum ones... they're either too light, poor craftmanship, or both. I like the ones you've made.

  • if you put so much effort with camera angles and setting up, why didn't you jump into your gi and lose the thongs :S would have been cooler.

  • I'm in my backyard, not the dojo. And, I wanted people to focus on the nunchaku, not me. If this had been a formal demonstration, I would have worn keikogi. But it wasn't. I'll leave the jumping into cool costumes to Spiderman and Batman.

  • ok thank u

  • i made three pairs now,and sold them all for 50...1 person said it was to lite, and they were,so any ideas on strong heavy wood????

    w.b. please

  • Purpleheart; Teak; Jitoba; Wenge; Cocobolo; and Ash.

  • That is a beautiful textile, Ernie. *^.^* I like that part. My husband would like the other martial arts part. :) For me, I also like ikebana and bonsai, too, but I'm not very good at it, yet. :P

    Hugs from Canada,

    "M" :)

  • P.S. Sorry to hear you are having some kind of eye problem. :( Hope they feel better soon! :)

  • Ahh! So you like bonsai, huh? Jee...what future video should I make revealing yet another skill of mine?

  • OMGosh! I shall adopt you, Ernie! :)

  • nice attack stance!!! I was wondering whether you actually learn the japanese language, instead of learning from Karate classes. It'll be cool if you did learn the language, cos i've only learnt level 1 japanese and with loads of anime

  • 本当にありがとうございます!2年ぐらい、私はサンフランシスコ州立大学で日本語の勉強をしました。でも, 私はじょうずない。ニーナはアニメが好きですか?マクロスはー番と思います。

Honto ni arigato gozaimasu. Ninen-gurai, watakushi wa San Francisco Shuritsu Daigaku de nihongo no benkyo o shimashita. Watakushi wa jouzu ja nai. Nina wa anime ga suki desu ka? MACROSS wa ichiban to omoimasu.

Thank you very much! For two years, I studied Japanese at San Francisco State University. But, I don't have skill. You like anime? I think Macross is number one.

  • That's not a bad idea... not so much for tameshigiri, but for nunchaku I could see it. :)

    That would be excellent training...

  • Nicely done. Especially liked your movement on the knee strikes and the kata. Very good zanshin, and spirit.

  • Thanks a bunch! Being unfamiliar with the weight and feel of this new nunchaku I made was a humbling experience. Each time I missed a hit, I'd have a flash of muffed cuts by members in the "Backyard" group. Now I know how you guys feel! I have an idea for a self-resetting soft target for my nunchaku. I came up with it by watching your tameshigiri. I wondered: Wouldn't it be great to have tatami omote auto load onto a stand? I'm designing something part T-ball and part Yo-Yo.

  • Great.

I watched pattern(Kata) of Nunchaku of "legitimate Okinawa" after a long absence.

Your way of using is original Okinawa(Ryukyu) Nunchaku.

    Thank you.

  • Suzuki-sensei, thank you for this great compliment! I'm just doing my small part to preserve Ryukyu kobujutsu. Learning how to make weapons is just as important as how to use them in self defense. Having construction and/or maintenance skills makes a more complete warrior. Your shuriken and blade fabrication videos partly inspired me to make my videos. So, thank you again.

  • Itrain EVERY night to be a better master at Nunchaku ButI use one with a chain & the other with a rope, I find it relaxing I'm werid that like. But you showed how to use it very well. I like to have the chain rap around the back of my hand so i may Strike better.

  • another great video. I'm a self learner and have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. I look forward to them.

  • Awesome Ernie, nice to see you are keeping the traditional side of the Nunchaku alive.Nice blow to the Solar Plexus,I've been kick there, the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life.*****

  • yeah i was going to mention that accuracy is the importent thing but i just never did ha ha yeah i know how you feel the first nunchuku i bought were ridiculously heavy ha ha realy though i didnt mean to deviante from the fact that this was an awesome video :D

  • Ernie, that was great! The improv kata deffinately had a strong kobudo feel to it. The only way I can describe it is...well...ominous. Flourishes and quick movements are bewildering to an attacker, but moving with purpose and strength is a direct attack on the oponents resolve.

    Can't wait for more!

  • I'm deeply honored. There aren't enough people, in my opinion who visualize combat while they practice. That's an issue I have with freestylers. Empty space is what makes a vessel useful. I don't believe the majority of young budoka and self-taught people understand the necessity of "pause and reflection" during movement. As an iaidoka, you truly understand economy of motion. Kime, zanshin, and kiai are kihon skills too many people gloss over. Believe me, I've got more in the works.

  • It was great to finally see you use the nunchaku. Looks like it would hurt. Great stuff Bro!

  • i'd request you to be my sensei if you were over here :D!

  • pretty good i supose how fast are you because

i think im a little faster than that with the nunchuku but then again that was just a demo you are prob a lot faster ha ha anyway I love the videos man you should eventualy do some on the japanesse swords :D keep the awesome ass kicking vids comein - chris

  • Being this was my first time wielding this nunchaku, I took it easy, especially against the makiwara. Now, I know just how far I can push this weapon. Also, I'm used to using a nunchaku that probably weighs twice as much as this one. So, it felt very strange using it. Also, speed isn't everything. If you can't hit a target, your speed is worthless.

  • Whoa that was such an awesome demonstration ;D!!! makes me want to learn nunchuks :D!!! awesome tutorial also!! :D

  • Thanks so much. Find yourself a sensei and learn!
