  • @acid7k I made what I thought might be an amusing pop culture reference at 2 in the morning; sue me. Perhaps I should have added the emoticon :P to make it more clear. I try not to be ignorant, but, after all, one cannot know everything and I hope to remedy my staggering lack of knowledge by watching bits of this awesome show on Youtube, because I am American and can't watch it otherwise. I enjoyed the video and thought it was interesting to discover that apples originated in Kazakhstan.

  • @pottermaniac4292 just think before making any statement whether you're sure about it or not rather than rushing to join all the narrow-minded human-faced stupid creatures. At least the emotion would've done better job. Sorry for being more than a bit harsh

  • Kazakhstan? Borat would be proud.

  • @pottermaniac4292 only the most ignorant prick like you could say like that

  • @acid7k prehaps you should look in a mirror. What the fuck is ignorant about mentioning borat. I will admit that Borat wasn't the first thing that popped into my mind but calling the poster an ignorant prick is a bit too sensitive

  • @Galacto1 @pottermaniac4292 okay, i'm sorry about that, i've gone farther that i ought to. taking my words back, i was kinda nervous. anyway, if you wanna know anything about any country or culture you've got google for that. i'm more that sure it'll expand and enrich your knowledge with true facts. borat is just piece of shit which has nothing to do with kazakhstan

  • @acid7k do u disslike borat i think its abite shit myself jews are rarely funny stephen frys funny tho he can stay at of the well

  • @pottermaniac4292 - lol. And his sister.

  • The old testament is nothing short of a comedy.

  • @loyly And you should laugh at the stories, since some of them are really funny.

  • Fry is right though, I've read parts of Exodus and it was pretty hilarious.

  • *sings* Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium

  • The Apple store.

  • You know you need more publicity when you're "one of those countries you vaugely know and couldn't draw on a map"

  • APPLES COME FROM PONYVILLE.

  • At least spellcheck your descriptions :(

  • So, The garden of Eden is in Kazakstan. Adam & Eve,

  • alan is so adorable at 0:15 :)

  • how do u play foot ball with a head less goat or any sport

  • I'm from Kazakhstan and thanks to QI I now know more about my homeland :)

  • @timmye00 Proof or gtfo.

  • @timmye00 Are you saying he's not. Proof or gtfo.

  • @timmye00 I would say you are the one who has to provide the proof. When you claim something, back it up. But I think you are playing a little joke on us all. Deep in your heart, you love the man :)

  • @FilipM1Lol, Its the sort of joke that Stephen would appreciat.

  • @timmye00 a national treasure, I think you'll find my friend!

  • @forzalarobur Yeah,he's ok,can't expect geniuses to be ordinary.

  • @timmye00 SHUT YER MOUTH

  • VERY NICE.

  • Not available on mobiles or iPad. Really p's me off.

  • I've just noticed the golden spiral behind them!

  • it may just me me, but i cant help but think that the comments under QI videos are much more intelligent than those found on the rest of the internet.

  • I thin k it originates from the city Alma-Ata which in Kazakh language (and Turkish, which is what i speak) means Father of Apple.

  • To everyone arguing over President Bush (the second), I add fuel to the flames:

The vast majority of the intelligent people (and a lot of the stupid ones too) the world over do not bash Americans for voting Bush in as president. No, for we understand everyone makes mistakes and that you can't always predict a person's nature by their campaign speeches.

However, most of us switched sides when you voted him in AGAIN for a second term.

  • @CombatGuru the thing I'm bothered about is not the kneejerk anti american reaction, but the ignorance about the extent of britain's involvement in whatever policies america is trying to enforce, among the british

  • @TimeAndSpaceWarp can you elaborate on the "extent of britain's involvement"?

  • @CombatGuru I... I know. it was probably the most disappointing night of my life when i found out he was re-elected, it confirmed for me that while there are intelligent rational people in america, we are not the majority...

  • Does he mean the originated or the first documented evidence ??? There is a massive difference and this has to do with the human compunction to find a "beginning" of something and that they cannot take as fact that something just happens as a matter of course and that there is no "definable" beginning. This is one of the stupid traits of humans that still throws innocent men in jail

  • well, the garden of eden is said to have been around there, west asia, Ural, land of Ur...known as Edom or something...

so alan may ironically be right

  • alan :')

  • Apples come from Monsanto, don't they?

  • half of america hated bush when he got into office and by the time he left he was the second most hated president in american history.

which kinda suprises me, because as dumb as he is he's not THAT much worse than the average american president.

  • it blows my mind how the brits compare everything to america..

ffs give it a break.. hes talking about apples.. and it allways turns to america.

from stephans own mouth he says brits need to stop being insecure.

  • @SaulMeyersz What's truly mind blowing is that you judge 61 million British people based on a handful of comments.

  • @ajaxrobinson see how stupid it looks.. trying bein an american and see nonstop bashing on americans..

and btw over half the americans hate bush..and were sick and tired of being compared to him.

  • @SaulMeyersz I can't try being American, but I appreciate your point of view. Just detach yourself from that bashing, it's just a handful of idiots. Remember, there is always a silent majority that are intelligent, kind, compassionate and non-racist people. You just see more of the bashing and the hate because those people just seem to want the most attention.

Further, Bush may have been hated the world over, but most people didn't hate American's as a result. It's all cool.

  • @SaulMeyersz Bush? That monkey guy?

  • @SaulMeyersz "brits need to stop being insecure" - And you need to shut the fuck up. Most British people couldn't give one flying fuck about Yanks. As indeed much of Europe, it's our leaders that love you. Not us.

  • @TheSpankymonkey thats why you keep talking about us and your obsessed with us..you limey wanker.

just let it go. move on with your life. there are over 220 country's in this world yet you keep talking about us.

let it go man.. go drink some tea and relax.. ;you tosser.

  • @SaulMeyersz - Yeah, that whole "keep chanting they are talking about us" bollocks isn't really working. Perhaps it might be better for you to get a dose of reality, rather than continue to delude yourself.

  • @TheSpankymonkey let it go man.

go do something productive with your life.. like read a book or something..

grow up .. there are over 220 countries in this world stop obsessing with just one.

  • I got an ad on this video that was 50 minutes long. WHY?!

  • blasphomy! apples come from the store.

  • i love it when stephen says genesis is "hilarious" its such a grand thing to say.

  • The apple is a lie...hold on, that doesn't sound right...........

  • @OmNomNommingOnSouls The apple is a pie?

  • @NamesForDogs The pie is a a lie?

  • Skipped and thumbs down because of advert.

    ADVERTS SUCK DICK

  • I love how he says genesis is 'hilarious' :-P.

  • That's a lie... Apples came from Steve Job's parent's garage!

  • Not read it? You should, it's hilarious.

  • KENT

  • why is it always a debate on which country has better humour between either England & American..... you are all aware there are other countries out there right? i like HUMOUR from all countries, the beauty of it is that it's all different and fresh, in my opinion.

  • @gyped Indeed. English-language humour from non-English-speaking countries is very often different and fresh. Of course, the humour being actually funny is very much rarer.

  • @leaguesmanoframsgate maybe your not looking in the right places.....

  • @leaguesmanoframsgate I think it just depends on how similar the humour culture is in two countries. For me, my Estonian humour and English humour are quite similar, so English humour is funny for me. But German humour is quite distant, I'd even say that Germans just aren't funny, but they may be funny for people from some other country, with a similar humour. Also, American humour is a wide concept, there are funny shows like the Office and That 70s Show and also lame kick-in-the-ass jokes.

  • I live in America and I by far Prefer British humour rather than the humour here in America. (I love QI & Stephen Fry btw)

  • @WoodstockSnape Are you an englander, in disguise? For you it's 'humor', no? ;)

  • @jungsbodyguard It is here in america. but I have a couple english friends so thats probably where i gett it from

  • Hello, my name a Borat. I very much like the apples.

  • ᴸᴹᴬᴼ

  • Glorious Nation!

  • It's hilarious! :P

I'm an athiest but I wouldn't have the balls to speak like Stephen on television. Always afraid of offend people.

  • @nikanj And you're the type of people I fucking hate. So what if they're offended? Does anything happen if they're offended? NOPE. I suggest you watch this video by a comedian. watch?v=7pjrVohm2nE

  • @OSXHD

You're not going to get very far in life if you intentionally choose to hate and offend the majority of the population. Right or wrong that's just anti-social.

  • You can see the game on YouTube "The Ascent of Man - The Harvest of the Seasons" start from 34.00

  • I thought I'd always hears that apples were another fruit of Chinese origin. Maybe it just spread faster east than west though. Actually many experts today think that pasta originated in Peria or Central Asia originally too.

Apples are associated with the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the West is because of a popular visual pun. Roman Catholic artwork showed an apple because Evil and Apple are both spelled "MALUM" in Latin. In the East it was often shown as a fig or pomegranate.

  • The minute Stephen said 'One of those countries you've sort of heard of' I immediately shouted 'TAJIKISTAN!' at the same time as Bill Bailey.

  • Do they show QI in the US?

  • @karadan100 Nope

  • @karadan100 I don't think Americans would understand the humour...

  • @sam8110 Don't underestimate the American capacity for getting really subtle humour. The American version of the Office is amazing, for instance.

Not all Americans are the stereotypical redneck so many seem to ascribe to on Youtube.

In fact, i'd go so far as to say most Americans are totally awesome people, going by my experience from visiting so many times.

  • @karadan100 I don't stereotype americans as red necks and i am also sure they are awesome people but they DO generally have a different sense of humour. we tend to be drier and wittier. QI is dry and witty therefore less likely to appeal to americans. (the american version of the office is more slapstick also.)

  • @sam8110 On that, I agree.

  • @sam8110 Just a note, not all of American humor is slapstick or broad situation comedy. And, I'm pretty sure there are a few people in a population of 300 million who could wrap their minds around QI, being one of them and all.

  • @jbitzenh I am generalising and going with the majority. Obviously.

  • It's Withnail!

  • "Where did apples came from?"

    "Tree!!!!"

LOL. Somehow SO MUCH common sense lol.

  • McIntosh apples are not of Canadian origin ???

  • I almost cried with laughter when he said "You've not read it?! It's hilarious!"

  • hahahahahaha, i died a little watching this xD

  • @NightmaresRegin: This part of the world don't see any ads.

  • does someone say that apples come from chickens at the start?

  • "which country?" "kent"

  • I know where Kazakhstan is :(

  • If this is bbc why the fuck am i looking at ads?

  • @Beefdoctor So fucking true; but the owner of the vid doesn't make money from them, YouTube does.

  • @Beefdoctor It's BBC "worldwide" so it has ads so the rest of the world can view it too.

  • @Beefdoctor

Because they were not allowed to raise the licence fee.

  • What is Stephen Fry doing with his hand at 1.20? Must have had an itch LOL

  • And yet apples don't actually have that much potassium in them. Bananas have four times the potassium that apples do.

  • very niice!

  • Like VERY much.

  • Thanks Kazakhstan, my favourite fruit is the apple, I love them =P

  • Whenever I see Mr Grant, makes me want to watch Withnail and I again. epic win movie

  • This channel is packed with bud ads

  • Oh Mr Fry, you do make me smile :) "You should, it's hilarious" that has seriously made my day

  • why the hell a 30 second advert for a 1:33 video

  • Kazakhstan i knew that :P

  • Fuck King Arthur and Sky!

  • I read somewhere that the forbidden fruit was probably a quince

  • Loved how Stephen snuck in the A Bit of Fry & Laurie reference when talking about not eating the forbidden fruit :)

  • Comment removed

  • @shelleybelley682 I didn't catch the reference. What was it?

  • @EKS511 The bit when he says "that shoulds not eat" sounds like him talking to Hugh in the "Naked Bible Study" sketch. In hindsight, it's probably not a reference, but merely coincidence.

  • @shelleybelley682 Oh yes I remember that. You're right it does sound like it.

  • byakasha

  • i thaught that apples came from newtreeland

  • I've actually read the Bible many times, took a course on it in college, and studied it in detail...I can say with absolute certainty that it's full of shit. With that said, in the story it doesn't say apple tree although it is a common misconception that it was an apple tree. In all likelihood it was a fig tree.

  • There are headless goats in Kazakhstan?..

What the fuck is going on there?!

  • @marrydruli :-)

  • Wait a minute! Richard E. Grant was on QI? What episode is this?

  • @Reishyn it's from the first series.

  • Now I can no longer look at apples without giving them the mental label:

    "Originally Made in Kazakhstan"

  • All the while I was thinking of Afghanistan, because of buzkashi.

  • Why are all the top rated comments always the same?

    It's stupid.

  • oh god the "Beast Hunter" guys squinting face reminds me of the two most attention whorish/attention hungry girlfriends I once had... I want to punch him in that mug of his... thank god this clip after helped relax me XD

And sorry... Lochness Monster is/always WILL BE a hoax.

  • Surely he means goat's head. What would be the point of polo with a goat's torso and legs?

  • @zenzombie72 No...He actually means....a complete Goats Torso... ;-) They don´t use sticks.....they pick up the Goat by the Legs and drag it into the Score-Zone...

  • Love Stephen so much.

  • i fucking knew it was kazakhstan because i read something called "A Game of Polo with a Headless Goat" I don't recommended it btw.

  • I can put Kazakhstan on a map :P

  • @bccr13 same

  • hey watch it played....rent " Man who would be King" starring sean connery, micheal caine.

they dont use a goat though.

  • Apple-atia? Ba dum tish.

  • wait the a headless goat or the head of a goat?

  • @eshin89 A headless goat. And the winners actually get to cook the carcass afterwards. The game is called Buzkashi.

  • It is pretty hilarious, particularly how God deals with the people's complaints.

Although you can skip Leviticus, Numbers, Chronicles and most of Deuteronomy. (of the Old Testament)

  • @Xanatos712 Definitely wished I skipped Leviticus, that was very boring.

  • after Borat, nobody can say they have "vaguely heard of Kazahstan" anymore :P

  • apples originated from kazakhstan? big lol

  • @EmilTowersIV Very few crops originally looked anything like they do today.

Corn in particular is a master piece of artifical selection; it is derived from the grass teosinte, a sad little grass native to Mexico. Teosinte doesn't even have a cob and there are only about 8-10 triangular grains per 'ear' of teosinte.

Wild carrots where thin, spindly roots, usually white or purple, originating in Afghanistan. Orange carrots were developed to match the colour of the dutch royal house of orange.

  • he said "KurKazakistan"!!

  • @alihammadshah Was probably going for Kurdistan, but quickly realized it's not a country.

  • borat

  • When I read the question, my answer was, "Well, when a boy apple and a girl apple love each other very, very much...."

  • @ElveeKaye Hahaha!

  • @ElveeKaye I thought the same thing!

  • also number one exporter of potassium other countries have inferior potassium

  • Borat was a master of that game

  • Kazachstan is huge!

  • I can point out Kazakhstan on a map. It's right next to Iraq.

  • @MetalSwitch95 Yeah but this was before Borat.. Hehe..

  • as far as i know apples come from eveil step-mothers disguised as your friendly neighbourhood old lady....who apparently lives in Kazakstan o.O

  • "It's hilarious" Hahahaha!

  • Take that God. Go Fry

  • the game they are talking about is called "buzkashi"

  • A coward you are Withnail, an expert on bulls you are NOT!!!....

  • Alma Ata = Father of Apples.

  • these guys are brillo!

  • Stephen Fry 1 - God 0

  • @Paradoxolog I think you'll find that they are the same person, but still stephen would have won ;)

  • @Paradoxolog I'm afraid that's not the final score.

  • @Paradoxolog I think you're terribly mistaken. I do believe Stephen Fry IS God...

  • circle

  • KENT! xDD

  • omg how massive is that man's head!?

  • interesting. I was born in Kazakhstan and lived there till 15, but don't remember such stories...

  • hah country.... sorta... :P i dare not...

  • It's funny that Kazakhstan should be regarded as 'one of those countries, you don't know where it is on a map' considering that Kazakhstan is larger than Western Europe.

  • @pistolpetethemeat and has very fine prostitute.

  • why did I have to sit through an advert for a BBC clip?

  • @howaythelads87 Somebody needs to get Firefox and use it's adblock ad-on.

  • I'm not sure if i like this new format...

  • "not read it? you should, its hilarious." OMG LOL!
