U.S. and other large countries are different because they only existed for 300 years. Basically they were building their stuff on fresh soil and forest and was still pioneering. Small countries like japan and S.korea are heavily populated and less land they have to deal with.

The Taiwanese Military offered to deploy troops into Afghanistan. The administration, Bush at the time, declined the offer due to possible military response from China. I happen to agree with re-unification because chinese ancestry have been trying to unify china for about the last 3000years now. If you're familiar with Chinese history, Chinese regimes(all of them) have killed more of their own people than foreigners. The Chinese should really stop oscillate between the two extremes: communism and fascism. Don't touch Taiwan because it's not good for the Chinese people. U.S. and other large countries are different because they only existed for 300 years. Basically they were building their stuff on fresh soil and forest and was still pioneering. Small countries like japan and S.korea are heavily populated and less land they have to deal with.
China's infrastructure is good near shore because they were heavily populated while the inland is like a country side of china so old stuff stays there. Some parts of U.S. have lots of bad infrastructure ex:(Detroit)

I agree that China is a capitalist society right now, but that only gives people even more reasons to hate it. In China, there is no middle class - only the rich and poor. The government was never a Communist government - it was and will always be a dictatorship. Another thing: in 1980, the Moscow Olympics was boycotted by the Western Countries. 11 years later, the Soviet Union fell. Lets hope that the western countries will boycott the beijing olympics.

ragnabara,your knowledge of China is at least 10 years behind time. Please view some of the You tube video posting on "China Economic Threat" from US source.The Chinese Govt is not dictatorship but Authoritarian like South Korea and Taiwan 20 years ago. Boycotting the Beijing Olympic will not work and so far no countries have done so because they know of the consequences of China retaliation.

Today, China communist system is only by name.She is more capitalist than most countries and the people are enjoying better living standard.The people have more freedom than before. Do not expect that country to practice full democracy overnight. This has to be evolved gradually. She needs peace and stability to progress. Taiwan trying to go independant is their biggest worry. She has to act regardless of the cost even if U.S is going to intervene on Taiwan side.

yea i understand japan is building up its military again. but it's the fact that who would want to go to war with the new economic super-power of the world just because one of its' island state wants to be a bitch. i actually grew up in taiwan and my grandfather was a general in the roc air force. i understand why they were fighting back then, but in today's age there's no reason for confrotation. besides the UN doesnt even acknowledge taiwan as it's own country. so wat help are they gonna get.

Well Japan is modernising it's military and it's navy is a farily strong blue water navy. The USMC is not the only defending Japan. Japan does at least have some ability to defend itself.
