May you forever rest in peace as we all carry on like you once did...free.

  • @4Samms69Bure6 Well said.

  • @4Samms69Bure6 GOD U R incredibly brainwashed..obama is a puppet, america hasn't changed one bit..social scientist even conduced an experiment. they came to this conclusion..THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN AMERICA IS RACIST WHITE PEOPLE...BLACKS ARE IN AN EVEN WORSE STATE THAN WE WERE IN BACK WHEN THIS SONG WAS MADE..boy oh boy barack obama is a dirty stinkin african. Umm don't u even know that blacks engineered the pyramids? PLEASE CHECK OUT KHALID MUHAMMAD! 2012 IS APPROACHING BUDDY WAKE UP!

  • @HATEswag Firstly 2012 unless yu haven't realised is already underway. Dirty stinking african? You will find the problem in America is people like you, I lived perfectly well in America playing hockey and never experienced any racism i'm not saying it is not there I am saying that people have changed from what they were back in Sam Cookes's day when people would spit at you or call you 'nigger' blatantly, but where in the world is there not a minority of racists? Please be quiet.

  • THANK YOU SAM COOKE! THANK YOU FOR WRITTING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG!!

  • U Did A Great Video For A Beautiful Song

Although I am only one person, I can personally say that at the age of 15 I have read Coming of Age in Mississippi more than 10 times. I am originally from Mississippi and when I was 8 my mom gave it to because she wanted me to know what my life would've been like if I had been born a short 50 years earlier. I thank your aunt and I salute her for her hard work and dedication.

  • Such a great talent, beautiful voice

  • There's a lot of truth in this song

  • The picture at 11 seconds into the video is my aunt. Her name is Anne Moody, she later wrote a best seller titled Coming of Age In Mississippi. Thanks for acknoledging her cuz most people don't know who she is and do not appreciate her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement

  • @undisputed81914 Allow me to tip my hat to your Aunt Moody. Thanks for sharing her story with us.

  • @undisputed81914 Thank You

  • @undisputed81914 good for her! its inspiring to see the warrior of a woman that she was and is. where most people run from pain, or spend their lives complaining about it. she took that energy, learned from it, and transformed it into something beautiful. amazing is she still with us? xo

  • @undisputed81914 Must have been tough in those days for her, cant imagine how it would have been like! thats why people should never forgot their roots and where they come from! bless your Aunt

  • @undisputed81914

This is EERIE! I decided to listen to this song while I'm writing a paper that uses Anne Moody's Coming of Age in Mississippi! This is too amazing! In my college course, my professor has us read Moody, Baldwin, King and Malcolm X. I just wanted you to know that we are recognizing your aunt for all the work she has done. Just the strangest feeling came over me while I'm flipping through Coming of Age and I look up and see your comment.......

  • @undisputed81914 Your aunt - Ms. Anne Moody is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing her name.

  • @undisputed81914: I am reading the book "Coming of Age in Mississippi" now. It is great. Thanks to your aunt for sharing a wonderful story! God Bless!

  • Wow! What an amazingly awesome and powerful song. It fully touches my heart. I was born in 1967. I love Sam Cook's music. Oldies, folk, Gospel, much Jazz and many other types of music. I don't ever remember hearing this song & I'm so glad that I have the pleasure of enjoying it. Thank you. Peace be with you.

  • great video love sam cooke , but seal sings this one better

  • @mr19983 u out your funkin mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THIZ THE GREATEST SONG AND VERSION. SECOND 2 NUN. 2 BEST OTIZ REDDIN FOOL LEARN YOUR MUSIC OKAYYY!!!!

  • @mrbigdaddyshan No need to get nasty, I think it's all good.

  • @mr19983 Seal better?? I don't think so! Sam Cooke owns it!

  • Good job with the video. Personally, I like his gospel music better that his secular. I think that the music that he made with the Soul Stirrers really utilized the full range of his incredible voice much more that when he became a secular artist. IMHO.

  • @wh0m33 Thanks. I totally agree with you regarding utilized his full vocal range. Although I like his secular songs as well, but those are mostly "fun" songs. A song like this is like a rare gem, it doesn't come along once but a very long time.

  • Combination of HISTORY AND SOUL

  • This song has literally inspired my life ever since I first heard it.

  • everytime I hear this song i start to tear up

  • Beatiful, it brings memories of my mother and aunties who were big fans even when he singing gospel. His voice was smooth, lyrics timeless...Sam Cooke was literally before his time!

  • good song, great lyrics. this is classic.

  • They don't make people like him anymore.

  • @2286navy You hear the words? A change gon' come. All we have to do is work at it and we can make ourselves people like him. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING.

  • @ddoggj1 true

  • This is a classic song and means so much to a lot of people!

  • ♥♥

  • Suddenly noticed, that this is a timeless song. I mean, that people does not change in a second, but contacting and discussing sometimes wakes you up. That is something, what happened to me (in Finland). Pls. help each other.

  • This song is so uplifting...

  • wspaniałe....

  • Brings back memories...

  • this song always makes me cry

  • *cousin*

  • Hes my uncle

  • If u dont feel dis song your soul id dead

  • Those images are striking. I look at the past and often wonder how black people were so tormented in the 60s. There are many who sang this, and truly, great ones, like Luther, Tina, Al Green. But it belongs to Sam Cooke, writer and singer.

  • im 16 and i wish singers in my day had soul like this......too much damn technology lol

  • @shernell31 agreed.

  • @shernell31 yes, but with technology, you can take something amazing like this and combine it with all of the good things technology has given us as musicians. i'm not saying use auto tune... lol but there are a great deal of soulful singers out there whom this man has inspired big time. i looked this up because i am doing a cover of it myself. you can say i paint pitcures with my music. he did the same xoxo imagine what he could do NOW?!!

  • had to listen to this song for a class...n it happens to be a time when I am beginning my weightloss journey...n its just the perfect theme song for my life...cheers to a past i want to put behind...change is going to come soon coz its been a long time coming!!!...Change is gonna come!...

  • Wow, rockwithstone, I was born in 1968! You first heard this song the year before I was born. I liked the way Spike Lee used the song towards the end of the film.

  • @zusarator A great song never grows old. It doesn't fade away either...Thanks for the comment!

  • @rockwithstone MR. COOKE WAS THE BEST; I GET CHILLS WHEN I HEAR HIM SING THIS SONG. I FEEL HIS SINGING ALL OVER, IT'S SO SPIRITUAL, YET , SOULFUL. I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL ARTIST'S SINGING THIS SONG, MOST ARE GOOD VERSIONS; HOWEVER, NOONE CAN TOUCH OR COME CLOSE TO SAM. I LOVE THIS.

  • Absolutely wonderful. My first time hearing it was in Spike Lee's movie Malcolm X. So spiritual and inspiring. Thanks for posting this.

  • @zusarator Thanks for the comment. I didn't know this song was in Malcolm X. When I first heard it in around 1967 (it came out in 1963), it knocked me out. Sam had many beautiful songs but, as far as I am concerned, this one defines him.
