I understand ehhhhholes revolt, when Hawaiians were independent they gave their white imigrant population hawaiian citizenship (just like many countries of the developed world do to the imigrants living inside their countries). Those naturalized then used their legal status to destroy the hawaiian nation and make it part of the US.
