Karlsson has displayed awesome puck skills and defensive abilities in these playoffs and arguably the biggest surprise in round 1. Just watch that smart play on Staal in the early minutes of game 1 or that check on Malkin while stripping him of his puck in gm 5. This kid is going to be awesome for the Senators.

Ever since Bryan Murray fired old scouts and brought in a new scouting staff, including a scout for Sweden, the drafting has been much better! Muckler's drafts were brutal. Murray finally started drafting based on SKILL, rather than nationality or two-way play. Of course, the draft is always a crapshoot but things are looking promising. Karlsson, Cowen & Wiercioch will make an awesome d-man unit if they pan out!

Nobody's saying Karlsson is better than Schenn. Both were taken where they deserve to go, give or take a pick or two. They're different players. However, Karlsson has the potential to make just as much of an impact, if not more. He's just less likely to reach it.

As for steals, look up Patrick Wiercioch, who grew to be 6-5 and put up an almost unheralded point per game as a freshman defenceman at Denver University.
