I heard Joan Baez's version before I heard this one. I had never listen to this song until I heard The Band's version. This version is much better than Joan's version.
When The Band made this song, it was a sad song about the tragedy of the Civil War. When Joan made this song it sounded like a happy folk song.

The slavery issue wasn't the reason the war started. So that isn't an issue. It would have ended sooner or later. The cost in lives was too high.
@pef286 I agree with Chris Rock on this one. Slavery ended in 1964. Give or take a couple of years depending on when your town decided to act right. Can you imagine how long it would have taken in the Confederate states?
@ksink74 heck no it didnt...it ended with the civil war and thats just a lame excuse people use these days to call people racist...Im sorry but black man living experienced slavery in the united states and thats that
@Pezd4524 I'm not sure I follow you, but perhaps I can elaborate. Chris Rock defined slavery as the time in the US where African-Americans had no rights. And that ended with the civil rights movement. Yes, things improved when the civil war ended, but African-Americans were not equal participants in our democracy until much later. While technically not slavery, since African-Americans were not owned as property, they were most definitely second-class citizens.
We could have manumitted all the slaves for a fraction of the cost of the hostilities. This was a war of invasion. Well, the damned fool self righteous puritan yankees got their way, and look at us now: The unfunded liabilities of the American people total over one half milllion dollars per household. Now that's slavery.
this is one of the saddest periods in our nations history, and we pray that the lessons of the past have been learned, but by the standards of the present it is so over whelmingly obvious that they have not. we know not the face of our nation any more,or the words of its fathers, and by grave error we are destined to fall to conflict with one another again.
The original version is in C major, but the RPM on this recording has been slowed down, to where it sounds as though its in B major. I must say, I do like hearing it at a lower pitch!
@jkjkjudo "Dixie" is generally used to refer to the South, like a nickname. The song is, in part, about the Confederacy's defeat, so "Dixie" in this case would be referring to the Confederacy.
whats so good about the confederates? they wanted slavery didnt they? wasnt that one the differences they had with the rest of the US that made them secede? or am i mistaken and it was really about cotton or money or alien spaceships? the civil war was pointless, ugly, sad, and was more because of buchannons shortcomings and inability to create a cooperative? i understand everyones nostalgia for the past, but when i hear the south will rise again i just laugh cuz usually some hillbilly sayin it
@maxcady5 THE WAR STARTED BECAUSE STATE RIGHTS VERUS FEDRAL RIGHTS, SLAVERY WAS BROUGHT IN AFTER THE WAR WAS STARTED, BUT WE ALL GOT TO REMEMBER THAT GREAT MEN, WOMENAND CHILDERN BLACK AND WHITE DIED ON BOTH THE NORTH AND SOUTH
@maxcady5 THE WAR STARTED BECAUSE STATE RIGHTS VERUS FEDRAL RIGHTS, SLAVERY WAS BROUGHT IN AFTER THE WAR WAS STARTED, BUT WE ALL GOT TO REMEMBER THAT GREAT MEN, WOMENAND CHILDERN BLACK AND WHITE DIED ON BOTH THE NORTH AND SOUTH.
@maxcady5 The War was about State Rights versus federal tyranny. Slavery as an issue in the war is a myth and has been used as a propaganda to justify the northern invasion of the South by Abe Lincoln. The so called Great Emancipator did not care about slavery, only saving the union. The War was not any more pointless then the Revolutionary War. Today we are living in a system that the founding fathers greatly feared, a CENTRAL GOVERNMENT. The south wanted a Confederation of States. FREEDOM!
@countryfarmmovies STFU thanks for the history lesson dad! the south wants the choice to decide whether slavery is allowed in their states? ok pissant only if white people and black people and all other races can be slaves - and as long as you have to be a slave so you see what it feels like to be treated as less than a human being. Fuck your freedom - id rather have my government boss me around and tell my state we cant ratify slavery than live in your fucked up southern states. YANKEE PRAHHDD
@maxcady5 Slavery would have ended in the south regardless of the war. The war was not about slavery, Lincoln did not free any slaves. The emancipation document delivered by Lincoln toward the end of the war was fake, it did not free any slaves on federal occupied areas, only in the south where he couldn't free anybody. And after the war it took years for the Fed to free the slaves.
@countryfarmmovies Freedom to own slaves, you can never forget about the freedom to own slaves. Also can't forget about freedom to transport the slaves across state lines, that's kind of an important one.
I left the south over 13 years ago, and I miss it terribly and this song really takes me back. The hot sweltering days in Southern Georgia, I wanna go back so bad. I know I cant go backwards so I will keep chugging alone forward. Its true you can never go home again. :(
@steven022964 For me it's the opposite. Born and raised in NYC, I'd visit my father's family in SC often growing up. After 12 years on Ft. Bragg, we settled in NC. I am home in Dixie, and here I will die and be buried "with a Dixie flag in my hand".
@combatjm89 That's all right....I've got a few copperhead friends and sometimes they make better Confederates than our own people. Best regards and God save the South!
OK, folks....I stand corrected.....I apologize for not researching before shooting my mouth off....honest mistake....my G-G-Grandfathers were confederate soldiers.....Georgia regiments....still like the "rebel flag" best..... peace.
Also (more generally) while I love this song I dislike the change that has been made to it. The line is NOT 'and so much cavalry came' it should be 'and Stoneman's Cavalry came'. A minor point but it irritates me.
For those who dont know Stoneman was one of Shermanssenior Cavalry commanders in the Georgia 'operation'...
@GX2Photography Joan Baez admits that when she recorded the song she had not seen the written lyrics and sang what she had (mis)heard. She now sings the original lyrics when she sings it.
@GX2Photography by far the more annoying lyric change that happens when other bands sing the song is isntead of singing "by my the 10th richmond had fell" they say random shit like "i took a train to richmond that fell" zzz idiots.
@GX2Photography I looked this up and half the sites say Stonemans and the other half so much cavalry. Her site refuses to reply to lyrics to songs she did not write.Leading me to believe she sang "So much Calvary came".I played this part over and over and it sounds like "so much cavalry came".Stonemans cavalry tore up the tracks to that part of the rail road many times. This caused supplies from getting through and people were starving.
@brian6078 The Band never said "so much cavalry". They always said "Stoneman's cavalry". Only that nitwit Joan Baez says "so much cavalry". Her excuse for doing so is that she never saw the lyrics in print and she learned the song from listening to The Band sing it. She misinterpreted what they said. I think we are in complete agreement on this issue.
@GX2Photography - I did not know why Joan Baez sand it this way, back then they did not have computers;but I'm sure there were ways to get the proper lyrics?I have done the same thing believing the words of a song;just to find out years after I have had it wrong.haha!Anyway thanks
@GX2Photography Joan Baez knew exactly what she was singing. But she didn't want to mention Stonewall (Jackson) 's name so, in this respect you are right, she is a nitwit.
@Airman04061969 - Stonewall Jackson? He has nothing to do with this song. Are you referring to George Stoneman? The lyric is "till Stoneman's Cavalry came". Baez said " till so much cavalry came". She did it because she didn't know the correct words. That's what she has said many times when asked about it.
@GX2Photography You could be right, I haven't thought of George Stoneman (what do you want, I'm a "stupid" Southerner). Well, at least someone re-established the original words !
Another part of Baez's misrepresentation of the song is when she changes: "I will work the land" to: "I'm a working man", shifting the song from an agrarian lament to a quasi-Marxist whine. She has a great voice though.
@talbothime LOL I think my brother posted that as a general statement that if there are people offended by that flag they have no clue about U.S. history and have no need to be offended by it. I don't think it was directed at anyone, I'm a historian and he is trying to be, sorry for the confusion.
@CoastGuardIDC Not all conferate forces flew the conferate flag in Battle, sometimes it was the particulare units flag such as the 1st Virginia volunteers and other states regiments.
@tspoonhunter You are correct...however, I've never seen paintings or photos of confederate forces fighting under the Confederate National Ensign...the one that flew over Richmond...as these re-enactors are doing....even if I'm not 100% correct, this video "smacks" of political correctness....
@CoastGuardIDC Wouldn't political correctness be more along the lines of not displaying the flag at all? Just a thought.....I don't mind its display, don't bother me one bit.
It is not political correctness, the reenactors are using a modern replica of the flag that their regiment used. And a lot of regiments used the first National flag as the basis of their regimental banner. Example- 16th Tennessee (and apparently in this case the 6th Tenn). More regiments used flags based (loosely) on that of their States. As the war went on more and more regiments adopted a version of that which is now (wrongly) thought by most to be THE confederate emblem,
@CoastGuardIDC - The Stars and Bars was the first Confederate National Flag. It consisted of two red stripes, one white stripe, and a blue field of white stars. The flag these re-enactors is carrying was the Regimental Flag of the Sixth Tennessee Infantry. It was the simply the Stars and Bars with their regiments name on the white stripe. The flag that the soldiers are holding near the end of the video as they prepare to advance is the "Southern Cross" flag. Note the cross in the blue field.
@CoastGuardIDC - Once again, you are calling the Confederate Battle Flag the Stars and Bars. Two different flags. Confederate forces flew many different flags throughout the war. Modern Rednecks have made the Confederate Battle Flag the most recognizable today but that wasn't the case during the war.
Remember, the Stars and Bars and the Confederate Battle Flag are two different flags.
@CoastGuardIDC The flag they were flying is the Stars and Bars. They use it because they are being historically accurate. Early in the war this is what was used, and all throughout many regiments used it . Lee's headquarters flag was for instance, with exception of the star pattern. The 27th GA used it all through the war, and it is now our state flag. If you are a patriot of the south you would never refer to any of our flags as " SILLY RAGS ". Men DIED under them all, even civillians.
@CoastGuardIDC Dear Sir, The Battle Flag You See On A Daily Basis On Bumpers And T-Shirts Was NEVER Flown Over A Battle Field During The War. A Flag Had NOT Been Decided On Until The Very Last Month Of The Wars End. It Was Adopted But NEVER Flown.
@CoastGuardIDC You should come re-enactment with my unit, 1st Kentucky Infantry, CSA, Co. E. Our unit has two flags posted in camp. #1 is the regimental battle flag, the square shaped southern cross which most rednecks use in its rectangular shape. #2 is the company colors which is the national flag, the stars and bars, with the company name emblazoned on the white bar. And if you doubt this flag was carried into battle, then I invite you to see the original which is housed at the MoC in VA.
They do not know what they say. If it came to a conflict of arms, the war will last at least four years. Northern politicians will not appreciate the determination and pluck of the South, and Southern politicians do not appreciate the numbers, resources, and patient perseverance of the North. Both sides forget that we are all Americans. I foresee that our country will pass through a terrible ordeal, a necessary expiation, perhaps, for our national sins. - Robert E. Lee
how foolish to say these things about the south being a victim, could you imagine this country split into two, many of the admirers of the Southern way fo life should look to there hero robert E. Lee, a real hero, who laid down his sword and became a loyal AMERICAN after he realized the dream of a SLAVE state could and would never be allowed to exist in this country
Give us a railroad, a food supply chain, and a fighting chance and y'all would be dealing with a different place today. May God bless our Confederate heroes. Your sacrifice is not forgotten. SALUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my all time favorites! I listened to a great interview with Robbie on CBC radio today. I just had to post this video on my facebook page! What a beautiful creation from some part Mohawk kid from Toronto. Great video as well! I loved the reenactment presentation!
im an australian, but the love the history of the United States, and this clip along with one of the best songs writen in the 60s, portrays part of your important history, perfectly, one of the best clips ive ever seen.EXCELLANT
Don't believe what you read. Only once in history did the US government send armed forces against a people desiring freedom...and that was against her own people. My nacestors were slaughtered for wanting freedom.
@79bonny I have nothing but admiration for your thoughts. Just wanted to say, however, that this song is one of the best written of all time, not just the sixties. Haha I'm really just looking for a reason to post a comment I guess...obviously. I second your post though, and enthusiastically quote your enthusiasm: "EXCELLENT"
This is a beautiful video for a great song. I salute you.
They weren't part of Stoneman's Cavalry came and tore up the tracks again, but two of my great-great-granduncles served with Stoneman's Division in 1865 in Salisbury, NC.
I DON'T MIND CHOPPIN WOOD, AND I DON'T CARE IF THE MONEY'S NO GOOD, YOU TAKE WHAT YOU NEED AND LEAVE THE REST. THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER TAKEN THE VERY BEST
There's a solemn energy about this song, a curious thing really, but the well selected photos really capture that movement of time and the related sadness,
Love it, amazing job man. I think I'm one of the few people who prefer the studio version of the song over the Last Waltz, although that's a great rendition as well don't get me wrong.
This version just has a more authentic feeling, although it was written by a Canadian 100-some odd years after the fact.
I'll always call myself a proud Yankee and even prouder New Yorker, but I've got a love and respect for the history of the South and the Confederacy. The CSA's part of our American heritage, and any proud American ought to embrace that heritage regardless of what makes it up. I might not agree with some of the things the CSA stood for, and I might crack jokes once in a while (who doesn't, honestly?) but the way I see it, the Civil War's outcome is what would've happened if the patriots lost the
I find it funny how they teach the history fo the war in schools now, of course depending on where you go to school. In many places they teach it was a war about slavery, which is no more accruate than to say that WW2 was fought to end the Hollocaust (which in each was a terrific end result but NEVER the cause of either war). Today Lincoln is not remembered for the truth he freed the slaves only as a political move. Just read the Lincoln-Douglas debates to see what the man really thought...
. Lincoln promised to protect "property rights" in his campain and victory speeches, this implied his willingness to accept slavery!!!
He "fought the war of federal agression" under the pretext of 'preserving the union', AT ALL COSTS, "Constitution be Damned". So now we are all federal slaves, overthrown by the bankers who used our monies, young men and resourses to conquer the states. Sound remarkably familiar ????
THE "WAR" of Federal Agression FREED NO ONE !!!! The feds 'invaded' the South because the Bankers knew that within 6 months there would be weeds growing in the streets of New York City !! Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was an Act Of War !!! He 'freed' the Southern Slaves if they would fight for the FED, did not apply to slaves in the North, and YES there were MANY slaves in the North!!! GO back to the real documents not "History" books.
@RoadOrphan I find the terms like the War of Federal Aggression or war of Northern Aggression a bit incredulous seeing as the South fired the opening shots at The Battle of Fort Sumter
@JS500Y Following declaration of secession, in a purely defensive move, South Carolina demanded that the U.S. Army [aka Federal Troops], abandon Charleston Harbor. South Carolina had seceeded and wanted no US insurgents! US Major Anderson refused to surrender to the commander of Confederate forces in Charleston, the Confederates bombarded the fort from artillery batteries surrounding the harbor. after 34 hours, Major Anderson agreed to evacuate. There was no loss of life on either side ~
@JS500Y After the battle, Lincoln's immediate call for 75,000 "volunteers" to suppress the "rebellion" caused an additional four states to secede and join the Confederacy.
The Federal Invasion had begun. SO, . . if LIncoln had left the legally seceeded states alone......
The North would have lost its tax base, the real reason for the federal invasion and takeover of CSA.
The "elected" North Carolina governor was personally removed from his official office by federal troops... coup...
yup, you guys lost the war and can't own "darkies" as objects anymore. And they're starting to do things like take over the White House.
Too bad when The Band wrote that song, they didn't understand what "the south will rise again" meant and why it was "so sad" for some. Maybe when they were touring in the 60s they didn't notice cuz they were allowed to use the good water-fountains.
So sad to see such an event in American history marred by the libtards like Bill running free in this country. When the Union falls, and trust me it will fall, sheeple like Maher will be used as currency.
When that day comes you will have a choice, fight side by side with Americans or join forces with their government. I guarantee our sons and daughters in the military have begun to recognize the true intent of their government, like Cairo, they will side with the citizens.
the entire affair, just another northern industial conspiracy to userp and gain control of the southern cotton etc. which was at the time rate as the best on the planet.. every one else were only pawns on the chess board..the astors.piedmonts, burlingtons and there covenant of demons inhereted the whole kit n kaboodel includeing the free labor to go with it..( follow the money)
PBS has shows called "American Experience" about Lee and Grant. Levon Helm around the time of The Last Waltz has an amazing likeness to U.S. Grant 's appearance during his Civil War campaigns. Levon; Sings about Lee, looks like Grant. Check it out.
many southerners use flags and songs and slogans that emphasize their southern identity, yet i seldom see northerners doing such things to emphasize their northern identity. i haven't seen a flag that would identify with the north the way the confederate flag identifies with the south. i haven't seen bumper stickers saying that the north will rise again. i don't see northerners treating grant and sherman the way southerners treat lee and jackson. i wonder why northerners don't do such things.
@coventrygardens Probably because the war's over. . . And when I see a, "dixie" flag it makes me think of times in our history I'd rather forget. But that's just me. Still America. :)
@Songsmirth but i'm wondering why northerners don't use flags that represent northerners the way southerners use flags to represent southerners. i can't think of any flags that automatically make people think of the north.
@coventrygardens Probably Covent because you're so use to it. It just has a few more stars. The South had their own flag when they left but the North kept the Stars and Stripes. People in the south that still love what the south stood for, have the Dixie flag around. Kind of a rebellious thing I think. Yes?
@Songsmirth thats your right to want to forget but there are those of us who still want to remember our ancestors and there brave stand against the Union invasion
the flag means many things to many people
for me it means resistance toward large governments or even rebellion in general
@JohnnyGuitar79 many people identify the confederate flag with the south or with the white south, & yet it might be noted that a sizeable number of white southerners were on the union side back then. vice-pres- johnson was a white southerner on the union side, and even pres- lincoln could be regarded as a white southerner on union side if we look at lincoln's family roots. there were even some slave-owners on union side. appalachia ( especially east TN ) had many whites on the union side.
Bob Dylan is the name and I rode to fame on the civil rights train. It was like serving time. It ended when the folknicks booed me after I switched to rock and tore up the tracks - cuts on a record - again. The night they booed bob dylan and drove him down. Was in the winter of 1965 we were almost out of the picture we were hardly alive as performers. By the time I toured in England (May 1965) the stupid n-lovin civil rights songs
u can almost hear the pain in levons voice as he sings this......my aunt moved from scotland to atlanta so i love the south but hey its just a song about a tragic war that happened many years ago.....and there are no winners in a war....only losers
True...the human cost of the Civil War was staggeringly high. So many killed and wounded, and this was 70+ years before the discovery of penicillin. More soldiers died from infection and disease than from being killed in action.
Absolutely love ,last waltz version-his soul was out here...... but......big pink was where they created the music, played chess, frisbee..more music ......cruised around with dylan.....bla bla..............levon helm was ,i feel the real human being ,who made.....the band ......
@jeffsdolphin agreed, despite his apparent dislike of Last Waltz, I watched the documentary and saw Levon Helm as the anchor of the group. Plus, how can you not appreciate a drummer lead vocalist?
@Jack102589 yes sir ... indeed . Singing ,while playing drums is apparently much, much more difficult than one might know. someone on u-tube said.....levon helm belongs on the dollar bill....that was good. After his cancer ,he came back like an old
I am not going to debate the Joan/Band thing. This has just always been my favorite version of the song I feel they put more [passion and soul into it.

whats so good about the confederates? they wanted slavery didnt they? wasnt that one the differences they had with the rest of the US that made them secede? or am i mistaken and it was really about cotton or money or alien spaceships? the civil war was pointless, ugly, sad, and was more because of buchannons shortcomings and inability to create a cooperative? i understand everyones nostalgia for the past, but when i hear the south will rise again i just laugh cuz usually some hillbilly sayin it

mnrobertsk 8 months ago 3
@maxcady5 The War was about State Rights versus federal tyranny. Slavery as an issue in the war is a myth and has been used as a propaganda to justify the northern invasion of the South by Abe Lincoln. The so called Great Emancipator did not care about slavery, only saving the union. The War was not any more pointless then the Revolutionary War. Today we are living in a system that the founding fathers greatly feared, a CENTRAL GOVERNMENT. The south wanted a Confederation of States. FREEDOM!
countryfarmmovies 7 months ago
@countryfarmmovies STFU thanks for the history lesson dad! the south wants the choice to decide whether slavery is allowed in their states? ok pissant only if white people and black people and all other races can be slaves - and as long as you have to be a slave so you see what it feels like to be treated as less than a human being. Fuck your freedom - id rather have my government boss me around and tell my state we cant ratify slavery than live in your fucked up southern states. YANKEE PRAHHDD
maxcady5 7 months ago
@maxcady5 Slavery would have ended in the south regardless of the war. The war was not about slavery, Lincoln did not free any slaves. The emancipation document delivered by Lincoln toward the end of the war was fake, it did not free any slaves on federal occupied areas, only in the south where he couldn't free anybody. And after the war it took years for the Fed to free the slaves.

@steven022964 For me it's the opposite. Born and raised in NYC, I'd visit my father's family in SC often growing up. After 12 years on Ft. Bragg, we settled in NC. I am home in Dixie, and here I will die and be buried "with a Dixie flag in my hand".

@talbothime - The Band says "Stonemans Calvary". Its that goof Joan Baez who doesn't know the words.

This caused supplies from getting through and people were starving.
brian6078 7 months ago
@brian6078 The Band never said "so much cavalry". They always said "Stoneman's cavalry". Only that nitwit Joan Baez says "so much cavalry". Her excuse for doing so is that she never saw the lyrics in print and she learned the song from listening to The Band sing it. She misinterpreted what they said. I think we are in complete agreement on this issue.
GX2Photography 6 months ago 2
@GX2Photography - I did not know why Joan Baez sand it this way, back then they did not have computers;but I'm sure there were ways to get the proper lyrics?I have done the same thing believing the words of a song;just to find out years after I have had it wrong.haha!Anyway thanks
brian6078 6 months ago
@GX2Photography Joan Baez knew exactly what she was singing. But she didn't want to mention Stonewall (Jackson) 's name so, in this respect you are right, she is a nitwit.
Airman04061969 6 months ago
@Airman04061969 - Stonewall Jackson? He has nothing to do with this song. Are you referring to George Stoneman? The lyric is "till Stoneman's Cavalry came". Baez said " till so much cavalry came". She did it because she didn't know the correct words. That's what she has said many times when asked about it.
GX2Photography 6 months ago
@GX2Photography You could be right, I haven't thought of George Stoneman (what do you want, I'm a "stupid" Southerner). Well, at least someone re-established the original words !
Airman04061969 6 months ago
@GX2Photography
Another part of Baez's misrepresentation of the song is when she changes: "I will work the land" to: "I'm a working man", shifting the song from an agrarian lament to a quasi-Marxist whine. She has a great voice though.

@CoastGuardIDC Not all conferate forces flew the conferate flag in Battle, sometimes it was the particulare units flag such as the 1st Virginia volunteers and other states regiments.
tspoonhunter 9 months ago
@tspoonhunter You are correct...however, I've never seen paintings or photos of confederate forces fighting under the Confederate National Ensign...the one that flew over Richmond...as these re-enactors are doing....even if I'm not 100% correct, this video "smacks" of political correctness....
CoastGuardIDC 9 months ago
@CoastGuardIDC Wouldn't political correctness be more along the lines of not displaying the flag at all? Just a thought.....I don't mind its display, don't bother me one bit.
eragonfan4life 9 months ago
@CoastGuardIDC
As the war went on more and more regiments adopted a version of that which is now (wrongly) thought by most to be THE confederate emblem,
talbothime 9 months ago
@CoastGuardIDC - The Stars and Bars was the first Confederate National Flag. It consisted of two red stripes, one white stripe, and a blue field of white stars. The flag these re-enactors is carrying was the Regimental Flag of the Sixth Tennessee Infantry. It was the simply the Stars and Bars with their regiments name on the white stripe. The flag that the soldiers are holding near the end of the video as they prepare to advance is the "Southern Cross" flag. Note the cross in the blue field.
GX2Photography 9 months ago 4
@CoastGuardIDC - Once again, you are calling the Confederate Battle Flag the Stars and Bars. Two different flags. Confederate forces flew many different flags throughout the war. Modern Rednecks have made the Confederate Battle Flag the most recognizable today but that wasn't the case during the war.
Remember, the Stars and Bars and the Confederate Battle Flag are two different flags.
GX2Photography 9 months ago

70LS6454ss 9 months ago

- Robert E. Lee
treybell24 9 months ago 3
how foolish to say these things about the south being a victim, could you imagine this country split into two, many of the admirers of the Southern way fo life should look to there hero robert E.

RoadOrphan 11 months ago
THE "WAR" of Federal Agression FREED NO ONE !!!! The feds 'invaded' the South because the Bankers knew that within 6 months there would be weeds growing in the streets of New York City !! Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was an Act Of War !!! He 'freed' the Southern Slaves if they would fight for the FED, did not apply to slaves in the North, and YES there were MANY slaves in the North!!! GO back to the real documents not "History" books.

RoadOrphan 11 months ago
@JS500Y After the battle, Lincoln's immediate call for 75,000 "volunteers" to suppress the "rebellion" caused an additional four states to secede and join the Confederacy.
The Federal Invasion had begun. SO, . . if LIncoln had left the legally seceeded states alone......
The North would have lost its tax base, the real reason for the federal invasion and takeover of CSA.
The "elected" North Carolina governor was personally removed from his official office by federal troops... coup...

When that day comes you will have a choice, fight side by side with Americans or join forces with their government. I guarantee our sons and daughters in the military have begun to recognize the true intent of their government, like Cairo, they will side with the citizens.
